"Or I could ask him, since you're trapped in your hospital bed." It got at least a brief quirk of a smile, behind that lingering edge of something thoughtful, Ever's arms crossed over his chest. He watched her look in the mirror, fascinated as always by the magic she could work with all those tools. It was a moment before he looked up to meet her eyes again, instead. "I gotta say, though, it's not as weird as you think. People tell you you're crazy or damaged enough times and you start to believe it. I was lucky my parents just never told me being gay was even a thing, so I got to learn about it all clean slate..."

"I'm catholic." She said she was as opposed to being raised it, or used to be. "It took a while fore I figgered out everythin the pope said wan't exactly based in modern times." Which meant she dished, at some point, some measure of gay bashing or otherwise. Until that inevitable point in her life, like many, that she realized she could make her own ideas and not have someone else tell her what was what. "Still.." Cee hiked herself up as straight as she could manage with a wince, "some point you gotta be your own person and not whatever someone else tried ta make ya. If you can't..." She had a skeptical expression. "Only so much bellyachin about their pasts that I can hear, ya know?"

"I don't know, Cee. I try not to judge." He hesitated, shifting in place, and then leaned forward on his knees: hands spread, very serious now. More serious than he generally liked to be. "But if I hadn't gotten enough of a scholarship to get away from home, I don't know how similar I'd be." He shook his head just a tiny bit, looking down at his fingers. "My family was batshit, and my dad was really batshit, and I thought there was something wrong with me, so." That was too serious and he shook his head a bit, trying to shake it off. "...but I got over it fast on my own, at least. Even if he could still make me feel like s**t tomorrow."

"I make it my job ta judge." Literally and figuratively. "And yer a normal human adult and you ain't ******** broken." Ever seemed to be riling her just a bit. It wasn't the topic at hand but more how there was a tone of self deprecation there, like he was grasping to feel empathy that he didn't quite feel. It frustrated her. "People who say 'I don't judge' always got something ta say." Cee'd started to bob a bit and the pain lanced through her sides so she forced herself to lean back and continue powdering her face. "Don't compare yerself. You found yerself and don't blame anyone for it. s**t! If my mother showed up right here, chattering off in italian, I'd feel bad as s**t too! And I don't feel bad for nothing!!" She snapped the compact shut and jabbed him with it as hard as she could manage. "YER SUPPOSED TA BE CHEERIN ME UP a*****e."

At least Ever smiled at her genuinely now: a smile that dawned slowly across his face. Not apologetic but understanding, he was just the worst person to talk s**t with. When he said he didn't judge, maybe Ever even meant it. Horrifyingly. So he spread his hands and sat back again, crossing his legs in a thoughtless sort of way and watching as she worked. "Sorry. You want me to take my clothes off and dance, instead?"

"Yes. Absolutely. 100%." She stared at him and waited. "Oh wait a sec." She took out her phone and held it up, waiting to film. "Okay go ahead now."

He grinned into the camera briefly before he leaned forward to kiss her on the cheek -- and, from the motion, rose easily to stand. "Next time, maybe. We'll make it a duet. Let me know if you want a book or something while you're in here."

As he leaned in, she tilted up and scratched her nails loosely through his shaggy hair. "Oh oh.. any Cosmos you can find!"
