She wished- however fragile that word was- that people could connect dots as quickly as her. It was an ivory tower thought, but Ami perched herself on top of the Sears tower in that comparison.
Three juveniles were not going to reveal this answer to Evan- nor would any demon ever reveal such things willingly. Wetting her finger she turned another page with a crisp noise. Her words echoed the crisp noise, an autumn sound. "You failed to answer my question. Why does it matter to you." Not Deus. Evan Roberts.
Lying to Ami wasn't smart. Neither was hiding the truth.

"Because they need to ******** die," Evan growled, the ragged threads of his temper finally starting to snap. "What better reason is there than that?"

"Simmer down, Roberts. Your temper's certainly been getting the best of you lately, hasn't it?" Ami dated your therapist. Oops.
Though Ami was afraid of the damage Evan could potentially reek if frenzied, she retained her nonplussed attitude in all situations. "But again, you speak in superlatives. Anyone can claim what you're saying. You have yet to stake a claim to your name."

Evan's eyebrows jumped upwards in surprise as Ami called him out on his anger. He wasn't aware that people knew, but this was also Ami. Knowing everything and using it to her advantage was kind of what she did. He didn't question how she knew, instead immediately blaming Lex and looking forward to punching him in the face--again. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Would it make a difference to you if it mattered personally to me or not? That anyone can make the same claims should be enough."

"It would mean the world to me, dear Evan." She almost said that he wasn't the one deciding what was enough and what wasn't, but considering she had already said that, she refrained.
Ami did so hate to repeat herself.

Evan hesitated, noticeably, and cursed himself for it. Ami wasn't someone he wanted to show any kind of weakness around. "Would it be enough for you to make them tell you how they can be killed?"

"It is not pertaining to my study, so no. I will not." That was it, a simple refusal.
She sighed and said, "However, you are so thick-skulled I see there is no point in playing games with you." In other words, Ami was bored. "Give me a reason, or get out. Now."

"Then I don't need to tell you anything, Ma'am," Evan snapped back, frustration returning anew. "I'd tell you not to let the lives of the people you could have saved weigh too heavily on your conscience, but I'm not entirely convinced that you've got one," he tacked on as he turned to leave.

"Evan," Ami said, not looking up from her book. "8am sharp. Wednesday."
What Evan had said had done nothing to sway. Ami was well aware she had stopped caring about right and wrong a long, long time ago. "I will happily accept the title of conscienceless if it helps you sleep at night," she said casually, "But I will not accept your dissatisfaction with me." Was this Ami's way of saying friendship???? No. More likely she simply didn't like losing a valuable tool. Occasionally you had to sharpen your knives.
She looked up at him now and said, "Don't be late and expect to stick to protocol. Additionally, if your temper flares in a way that alerts the test subjects, I will have no problem ejecting you from the quarantine."

Evan paused, blinking and perplexed, still halfway turned towards the door. "Uh, yes, Ma'am. Sorry, Ma'am," he said, confused by Ami's sudden change of heart. Maybe he had been too hard on her. This was her project, after all, and just because he had helped her with it, it didn't give him the right to barge in and make requests. Still, he was grateful for the chance and desperate, as always, to please. "Understood. I'll keep that in mind." And then, before she had a chance to change her mind again, he said, "I appreciate the opportunity. Thank you, Ma'am," and left her to her research.

Ami had already blocked out his existence.
