Oh.Hvergelmir submitted to Zee's fussing without complaint. Her parents did these kinds of things all the time. Laney, get your hair out of your face was a common mantra with them. In the way of children who were desperate for any kind word, she'd learned to convince herself that this was a form of affection. At least Zee seemed to be aware of what she was doing. She sighed. "Overwhelm me. I guess even Tara thinks I'm helpless and naive -- no wonder I can't convince her to come back." Hvergelmir shook her head. "I go to the Surrounding every week, but she never comes to the gate. Can you get there? Do you have one of their passports?" She hated the idea that someone else might be better able to convince Tara than she was -- but at this point, she was willing to try anyone who might help.

"You're not naive and helpless, you are a squire," Zee stated with a firm matter-of-fact nature in her tone and gave a little nod of satisfaction at er work.
"I don't have a passport and... If I didn't I'm not sure if I could use it. I can't travel anywhere to space, I don't know why the Surrounding would be an exception. I usually need a chauffeur for those sorts of things. And besides, I wouldn't try to coax her out, I would drag her kicking and screaming through a mirror. The last time we spoke she was in denial there was even an issue and then yelled at me and ran away when I begged to differ."
Which was an overly generous way of describing the encounter since in reality it had been more like Aquarius trying to convince her Exidor was a real magical manifestation and Zia crying for an adult, preferably one with some sort of mental health training.

Hvergelmir couldn't hide her disappointment at that answer. For a moment, she'd dared to hope that Zee's gung-ho attitude meant that she could go right up to the Surrounding and harangue Tara into coming home like they wall hoped she would. The news that Zee couldn't even get to the Surrounding was disheartening. "I see. That sucks," she pronounced her verdict. "Well, I guess if I hear anything, I'll let you know?" Something else occured to her. "If I address a signet ring letter to Zee, it'll get to you? Or is it Z, like, just the one letter, or...?"

"It sucks a lot," Zia repeated and nodded in agreement. "Z-E-E or letter Z or Zia or Zirconia or whatever, I think it works all the ways," She said ponderously, and only just now realized that she hadn't spent much time investigating the various limitations of knightly letter keeping.
That would need to happen later.
"I would appreciate the updates," She added, although tonight's news would probably help her sleep a lot better than the void of knowledge she had on the situation before.
"Can I update my index with our squire weapon? And-- ah... what's that?" She unceremoniously pointed to the oath seal on her arm.

Hvergelmir mentally filed away the name Zirconia for later reference. Mnemonic, simple: zirconia, like the cubic kind. The alternate diamond for the alternate Mauvian. Clearly she preferred Zee, though -- Hvergelmir would stick with that. "Oh, sure," she said, with a bit of a sheepish start when Zee pointed to the seal tattooed into her shoulder. She produced her distaff first, holding up the spindle on the far end for Zee's inspection. "So, this guy on the left got a little bigger, got some fancy antlers, as you can see -- and then on the right, now he has a little buddy -- so now that I have a spindle, I can actually spin thread like it's supposed to work." She let Zee examine it to her heart's content, then twisted her upper body so her shoulder was facing the Mauvian full-on. "And this is a -- that's actually the seal of my Wonder, made really big. I actually... swore this oath on my Wonder, and then -- this thing showed up on my shoulder. My Wonder means to hold me to it."

Zia was messing with her phone, typing out stilted and quick notes on the updated aspects of Hvergelmir's upgrade to squire, but the seal on her shoulder stole most of her attention.
"I... see... I think."
Not really, but there was a puzzle turning over in her head, and a list of questions forming that probably weren't suited for standing out here under the street lights.
"We should talk some time," She concluded with an enthusiastic nod. "I live with Kairatos, that's who told me where to find you. So you can, like, just call! Anytime!"
She shoved her phone in her pocket and took a theatrical turn on her heel to leave. "I mean it! And... thank you for telling me where Tara is."

"Oh -- okay," Hvergelmir responded to the information that Zee lived with Kairatos. "I had no idea! Good, now I know how to track you down when I need you." That was convenient -- she liked when her friends were friends. Unlike Tara, apparently? "Well, take care, okay? Stay in touch." Hvergelmir watched as Zee scuttled off into the night as abruptly as she'd arrived.
