Frost didn't know why he needed the ice cube. He could have just used his hand honestly. A drop of water but the ice didn't put out the flame- good enough right?

Lock had never been very comfortable around fire, but the game seemed simple enough. That was good enough for him.

The second time was much better. He was less nervous, so it was much easier to control. Though the water almost put out his fire, he wasn't outted completely. This stuff was harder than it looked!

Now, okay, this booth was fascinating. He stopped a moment to glance between the ice cubes and the flames before stepping up to the two running it. Was he playing? Well, sure, why not? Once the rules were explained to him, he furrowed his brow in concentration and attempted to level the ice cube at a good point.
He wasn't able to get it, and hm'd a bit as he put the tongs down. Well, it'd been worth a shot! Nodding the the booth runners, he moved on.

After getting the explanation, Nova picks up an icecube and holds it to the flame...
"Near the flame, not IN it!"
The icecube melts and puts out the flame. They both stare very unhappily at Nova. Olivia dabs the water away and Andrew restarts the flame on the candle.

Rosy floats up to the booth, watching the flame for a moment. It was shiny and she couldn't help but stare. Blinking, she shakes her head before picking up the ice.
She was very careful as she held it over the flame. A small frown forms as she saw it drip a couple times, but never really putting the flame out. Pulling it back, she sighs in relief.
Okay so she was good, no flame went out.

Too high, it seemed, judging from Olivia's very unhappy look.

Lusine took the ice cube hesitantly, but the bright flame of the candle was what really held her attention. She held the cube high over the flame so that she could watch it flicker and dance. Apparently she held it too high because she never saw any steam. Too bad, that flame was really pretty.

He hadn't understood this booth the day before, and he wasn't so sure he would now either, but he was still going to try it again. Once more he lifted an icecube in his hands and shifted it over an open flame.

Sighing and shaking his head a bit he lowered the ice over the flame again, concentrating on keeping his hand steady.
Uh... oops. He nearly puts the icecube on the flame, and it melts quickly. The dirty looks told Shiki all he needed to know as he bows his head and runs away, tails nearly dragging in shame.

The pictures were very much appreciated. Sludge still couldn't read very well (or at all), so they explained very clearly what he had to do. Hold some ice over a open flame. Simple, just the way he liked it.
The monster boil did as the pictures told him, waiting until a drop a water drips from the ice. This was enough to earn him a prize.

He wasn't quite sure why he was even bothering with the next booth. He was in agreement with the fire demon. Ice + fire = melted ice. It didn't get you steam unless you had some ability to flash melt the ice.
Which he was, of course, right about as the ice melted easily over the candle.
