With the fence down and everyone being ushered away, Shun went on towards the mess hall along with the others. He got his food, then went on and sat a little further off from the rest of the trainees to begin eating. He made no complaints about the food. It was still edible, and he'd rather eat this than starve again, really.
While he did this, he idly listened to the conversations among the other trainees.
"Horrible. Unless you particularly enjoy losing your wits," he grumbled under his breath, as he heard Tala asking about what alcohol was like.

Harper hadn't stepped for in the garden yet. She'd seen fliers for it, but it hadn't peaked her interest, really. She was just in the cafeteria for dinner, which was as unappetizing as it always was.
And to make matters even better, sarcastically, Axel was there. Harper almost spun on her heel and left without dinner.
But she was hungry, even if it was like eating meat-flavored glue, and so she got her bowl of slop and took a seat at the table farthest from everyone else.
Rennati had been pretty upset at the destruction of the fence. They had spent a long time one it and a lot of hard work just to see it destroyed. Things were different for Rennati, though, she'd grown up her whole life normally tripping or doing something to things she spent a lot of time on. Disappointment was a common feeling for Rennati, so she tried not to feel it against Alec, the boy she had met, who destroyed their fence. She knew it probably wasn't on purpose. The fence could be rebuilt anyhow.
Like most of the other trainees, Rennati followed the group towards the mess hall for what ever in the world meat slew was. It didn't sound very appetizing but she sure was hungry. Entering the mess hall at the tail end of the little dispute, she was glad things had gotten resolved. She didn't realize the twins could be mean like that, especially when Alec had accidentally tripped. What if she ended up tripping and doing something of the sort? Would they be mad and mean to her? Frowning slightly when she finally got her food, she made her way towards the table everyone was sitting at, but it looked pretty full. Rennati sighed and sat at a table next to it instead. She stared at her bowl full of...something. Being brave, she tried a spoon full. It wasn't too terrible but it wasn't great either. She resigned herself to eating it anyway since it was all they had.

"We'll take you up on that generous offer!" Jeong-jae grinned as Alec offered to buy everyone some pie at Trost. It was a shame not many of the others seemed to like alcohol but he looked forward to sharing a drink with Axel later. He had the right mindset about those crazy evenings with missing memories (and sometimes memories you wished you'd missed). Maybe they'd buy Shakuntala a beer and let her try one for herself, it was a different experience for every person!
"So where're you guys all from? How'd you end up here?" Jeong-jae asked with a smile. He wasn't going to force anyone to share if they didn't want to but was curious about his fellow trainees. Everyone had some sort of story for being here and it would help him learn what kinds of people they were. He knew Shakuntala wanted to be a vet but that was about it for the crowded table. Jeong had only gotten glimpses of the rest and had no idea what these people were about.
"Starting with you, destroyer~" Wagging a finger at Alec, he teased the red head a bit more. They'd forgiven him for his mistake but that didn't mean they'd forgotten it!

At the note of beer Alec looked slightly sheepish. "I think ale is much better, I've sipped beer before but both yes do a great job of robbing you of your senses. I remember laughing a lot, it was fun." He concluded giving a slight shrug. "Not sure I'd do it again but its not a bad experience with friends by any means!" Alec have a small shrug.
"Wall...destroyer?" He sighed, just a bit feeling all the more silly as he rubbed the back of his neck slightly and squirmed some. At least..no one was truly ripping on him, but the drama had been very real. He couldn't help wondering if this would come up again.
"I'm from Wall Maria, in the Shiganshina District. Father was in the military, passed a number of years ago and I always wanted to be in the service along side him. Best I can manage is being here today." He answered truthfully finally done picking at his food making a face as he settled back in his chair, leaning back some so he could get an idea who all was here..even if some people sat far away more so than others.
"Some one else?" He asked mumbling a bit shyly having become the center of attention and was just as content to pass it off to some one else willing to share.
Yo damn theres so many of you I dont even know

"Beer makes you silly," Axel said to Tala, after Shun's grouchy remark. He didn't know a better way to describe it, really. He wasn't much of a wordsmith.
There was a lot of talk flying around about this that and the other, but Axel was finding it difficult to pay attention. He was experiencing a moral crisis. On the one hand, it was Wrong to steal food. But wasn't it just as wrong to waste food? Wasting food was wronger, even, because Axel had come to grudgingly acknowledge that stealing food out of hunger was not a black and white issue.
While Alec was replying to Jeong's question, Axel stole a bite from the redhead's tray.
"I'm from Shiganshina too," he volunteered, swallowing. He shrugged. "It was steady work, so I joined."
Hwan didn't seem to want his food either. Axel store a brown lump from Hwan's tray that was probably meat, or perhaps a potato. Either way, it was delicious.
Suddenly, Shakuntala found her opinion of the feel-good liquid to be completely muddled. She had gotten two sides of beer; one of positive regard and the other of a grim account of messed-up senses. Of course, like some human beings, she liked to keep her thoughts in check because she was incredibly self-conscious and had, due to her inhibited nature, trouble fitting in. Due to this, she was quick to turn her opinion over in favor of Shun's if that was the case. However, Alec and Axel's addition that it encourages laughter and makes you silly usurped her sudden choice from its lofty throne.
Again, she found herself standing at the tipping point between trying beer in the future or remaining as she was. It was a party drink, after all. Maybe, in the fond future, she would gather around with others and enjoy a sip or two. But, for now, the subject of the conversation seemed to shift to everyone's origins. At first, her maroon eyes landed on Alec, and Shakuntala bobbed her head in understanding to his circumstance. Despite having agreed to join the military alongside him, the copper-skinned realized she knew quite little of his background. Of course, she was aware of his family and same adoration of horses, but otherwise, his past was unknown to her. After Axel's quick quip of why he too had joined, Shakuntala wrung her hands under the tabletop.
"M-my, um, my mum's a... She liked to c-control aspects of my life," she pipped up after the blonde, "She t-threatened to marry me off if I, um, didn't get my act t-together... But... B-but then she got angry with me when, um, I j-joined the military. K-kicked me out... So here I a-am, aha..."
Talking of her parents -- especially her mother -- was difficult, so the girl went quiet as quickly as she spoke up. With a flick of her eyes around the group, she searched out the next person who was to speak.
Too many peeps blarghhh

Shun eyed each of the others as they began to speak up. With Alec, he had a vague idea of his history prior, but not so much for Axel or Tala. The latter in particular, came off as a bit of a surprise to him. The most he knew of her reasoning had to do with horses, really.
"I'm from the streets of Shinganshina. That's all you need to know," he stated curtly. A few of the others already knew that much about him, though he didn't really feel the need to go into further details. To him, it was fairly irrelevant.

Yesenia laughed heartily. "Lotsa Shiganshinans here, huh? Malia and I're from Trost, actually! She was a courier for some dude's company, and I was the bum!" Before she could continue, Amalia cut her off. "I can speak for myself, Yes.""Well, I didn't see you leaping to do so~!"
The green haired girl shook her head before continuing. "Like that guy," She jabbed a finger at Shun, "there's not much you need to know about me. I like sweets, my brother is a huge a*****e, I like working."
Yesenia sat her chin on the other girl's shoulder. "She's also super scary when she's angry, so don't make her mad, okay~?" Amalia shoved her off with a roll of the eyes, but the braided girl continued. "Speaking of~!" She turned her attention to Shun. "I bet there's way more to you than that you're from the streets - uh.... Black haired guy! Yeah! What's your story for real, huh~?" She asked in a sing-song voice before getting clapped upside the back of the head by Amalia. The grey eyed girl whimpered quietly as Amalia whispered, "Don't be an a**."

Larisa hadn't really even intended to go to the Mess Hall after they'd all been ushered out of the Peace Garden. She'd been tired and a little depressed that all that hard work had gone to waste and more than a little annoyed with the cause of it. She knew Alec hadn't meant to do it, but it wasn't like she could just stop feeling bitter about it without a little time. So she'd strongly considered just going back to the dorm for the night and getting a head start on sleep instead of following the others. Her stomach, unfortunately, had had other ideas and she hadn't even made it halfway to her destination before a loud growl convinced her to change course.
Sighing, the blonde stepped into the building and went for the food. Once she'd finished peering uncertainly at it, she cast a glance around the room. The others from the garden were all more or less crowded around one table, with Alec right in the center. They looked like they were having a lot of fun, didn't they? She hesitated, considering and second guessing her own feelings, and then spotted another table further out. Empty except for one pretty, pink-haired girl. It was the easiest option, she decided, and she wouldn't be alone. And if she managed to make a new friend while she was at it, well, that would do wonders to improve her mood, surely.
Decision made, she moved over towards Harper's table and then paused, hesitating again. Should she ask if it was alright before she sat down? She didn't want to intrude... Mustering up her courage again, she managed a nervous smile. "Hi! Do you, um, do you mind if I sit with you over here? I mean, if you'd rather be alone, that's fine too!" And oh, why hadn't that occurred to her until now? She'd probably sat over here to get away from people! Wincing, she waited for what would surely be a rejection.

"Maybe there is, maybe there isn't. It's not important either way," Shun shrugged, turning his attention back to his stew. He wasn't about to pour his heart out here. The others were free to do so, if they wished, but he felt no particular need for it. He was never really one to share much about himself in the first place.
And in a way, getting to know the others well seemed a little dangerous, considering what they were here for. Those who ended up in the Scouting Legion, particularly, weren't too likely to last very long.
This much, he didn't voice out, however.

Harper wasn't expecting anyone to approach her. She was not exactly exuding warmth, but Harper couldn't help it. She was feeling more than a little awkward, and more than a little confused. Harper hadn't yet stepped foot into the Garden, though she'd seen the signs plastered around the training grounds.
Lifting her eyes towards the sweet voice that spoke to her, Harper lifted the corners of her lips in a smile that came too easy to be entirely warm. Everyone was always greeted as a friend, no matter how they treated Harper. Friends were incredibly important to her, and it would be nice to not be completely alone.
"Of course, please, yes, you can sit here," Harper trilled a little too brightly, a little too quickly. "I'm Harper, I don't think we've met, it's really nice to meet you, ah..."
"He'd be proud of you." Alec looked down at his food with a sort of bittersweet smile as he spoke of his father and Hwan wondered if the guy was alright. Losing a loved one was hard and he struggled to come up with comforting words to say that wouldn't depress or embarrass his new friend. The boy with goggles didn't make eye contact with any of them and Hwan wondered if he was close to crying. It was clear the redhead wanted the spotlight to move on and for his sake, Hwan let it. Axel munched on something unidentifiable, saying something about steady work and Hwan nodded along. He could understand that.
"Hey!" A fork darted over to steal his... potato? It was hard to tell what the round thing on his plate was. While he had no interest in eating it, the playful teen would never pass up a dinner duel with silverware and he tried to block and spar with any further attacks from Axel with a twinkle in his eye. Game on, blondie.
"Good for you, Tala. You should marry for love." Hwan didn't have experience with arranged marriages but he'd always found it depressing to see young women forced into unions to benefit the parents. He regarded her act of rebellion by joining the military a brave move but also risky as she admitted this left her with nowhere to return to. His eyes watched her for signs but he couldn't make out how she currently felt about her family. Best not to speak too much on it then. If the chance came, maybe he could ask her more about it privately. A story like that deserved a happy ending and he'd try to help her if he could. The thought crossed his mind that there had to be other girls here with similar stories but he didn't have time to aid them all. He'd take on what he could for now.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Rennati enter the mess hall and he waved to her as Yesenia poked at Shun about his story. It was sort of sad to see her eating by herself but he was already packed in tight to his current table with so many trainees squashed together or he would've dragged her over. Maybe she preferred to eat in peace and quiet, he wondered. With Amalia and Yesenia's friendly bickering, he supposed the table he was at was far from quiet and let Rennati decide for herself what she wanted.
"Hey, so, where's everyone thinking of heading after graduation?" He tried one more spoonful of the slew to get at least a little nutrition and grimaced as it went down. "Garrison? Survey?" He looked over the lot of them, trying to theorize in his head who's skills would do well where and listened eagerly for the answer. They were certainly a diverse bunch but he knew they had to be talented to have actually stayed in the academy. Some of them looked like strong fighters, like Shun, but others were a total mystery, like Yesenia.
Either way, it was nice to get together like this over a meal and let down a few more walls. Maybe he ought to thank Alec for getting the ball rolling.

"Larisa," she offered quickly, too relieved by the sight of a smile to even begin to notice that it might not be entirely genuine. "My name's Larisa." She'd been so sure she'd have to go find somewhere else to sit for a moment there that taking a seat now seemed like some great reward. Apparently she'd been more than right about about making friends lifting her bad mood, but she hurried to quell that thought because she hadn't exactly secured a friendship here, just a place to sit. No point getting ahead of herself!
"And thank you!" For a moment, she simply settled into her seat, lifting a fork to poke at her food as if to test it before lifting it to her mouth. Once she'd managed to swallow that first bite, she shifted back to talking. Maybe she could work up to more in a minute. "Were they a little too, um," she paused, searching for the word she wanted as she gestured towards the crowded table, "busy for you too? I-I mean, it's nice they're all having fun, but I just didn't-"
She didn't remember ever seeing Harper there, but... "Were you there today? In the Garden, I mean?"
"Larisa," Harper repeated, "it's nice to meet you. And, ah. Busy, I guess you could say that." She couldn't even stand to look over at the table. Harper had to agree, it was nice that they were having fun, but..
"I wasn't in the garden. What happened?"
She didn't want to admit that she'd been slinking about doing menial tasks because her mood was so low. She didn't want to admit that her life had gotten a lot more complicated in recent days.
