Casseth tensed as six large, canine like creatures came upon them quickly. Thier growls were low and a few snapped at them as they moved in closer. Cas’ hand went to his axe, gripping the handle and ready to move at a moment’s notice. His body moved instinctively closer to Lithian as the creatures broke off into two groups, three moving to each side of them and causing Cas to have to focus his attention on the ones coming on from his side. “Be safe, Lithian.” He let his hand drop from his axe and reached for Lith’s. He gave a reassuring squeeze. “I love you.” The three at Cas’ side howled and sprang at him, coming in on him quicker than he expected.

Cas grunted as he pulled at his magic and sent a spike slamming into and through one of the beasts. The others skittered to a halt, moving away from the earth Cas had plunged into their pack mate. He gripped his axe, pulling it away from his side and twirling it as he stared the other two beasts down. The larger of the two snarled at Casseth, baring its teeth and lunging at him. Cas swung his axe, slicing through the creature’s neck before it even had time to land.

Distracted by the beast, Cas didn’t notice the third one approaching until it was too late. The thing snapped down on Cas’ right ankle, teeth sinking into flesh and blood splattering down over the white snow below him. He cursed as he kicked the beast away and pulled at his magic again, bringing a chunk of earth up from under the snow and ice and slamming it into the beast. The satisfying sound of bones breaking reached Cas’ ears as he finished off the last of the beasts that had come at him.

You have finally arrived at the location marked with a Black Snake on your map. Before you looms an icy hill with a large cave entrance in its side. The cave looks like it descends far into the ground. Around the cave there are many gouges in the rocks and ice. Plus you can spot some recent Dragon tracks leading into the cave.

What do you do?
Turn around a leave? Go to Quit
Decide to go to the other path? Go to Red Skull Path
Or do you continue onwards? Go to Dragon’s Den

Alert the instant he heard the howl of beasts, Lithian sank his stance, grounding himself against the iced-over earth and snow and unstoppering his flasks. When Casseth’s fingers caught his mid-motion, Lithian felt a coil of warmth. Security. Casseth was here, and his. And he had to protect him. As soon as the beasts split up, Lithian gathered his magic, holding it at the ready and waiting. Part of him immediately desired to fight the beasts facing off against Cas, but before that thought could even fully format itself, one of those on his side leapt in.

Lithian shifted sharply: a leg out, an arm up, palm open and then pinched, barrelling a liquid snake into the beast’s head. He whipped at them as they came at them, barring them from attacking Casseth and eventually, in his free moments, streaming his water into the snow below him, melting it and gathering it into the girth of his repertoire. When the next beast leaped, he slammed at it, melted snow, frigid as a winter’s night crashing into it as sure as an incoming swell. The beasts yipped and snapped, but gained no ground and the instant he had the advantage, Lithian shifted his stance again, drawing back, opening his palms, and then driving forward and clenching.

Two snakes of near-freezing liquid coiled forward, forcing their way down the throats of the two foremost beasts. Lithian felt his body shake, a sickness rising in his gut as the creatures trembled. No matter how many times he drowned a thing, it always hurt, and as soon as the creatures fell limp and still, their lungs burst and bodies cold, he went limp. The third ran, darting off into the snow and barking, as though in warning to its pack mates. Lithian only gathered his water, siphoning it back into his flasks and then shuddering as his posture curled smaller. However many times he had to do it, he still hated killing things.

“Casseth…”

As soon as he said it, Lithian remembered hearing Casseth cry out — curse words — and he jerked around, eyes instantly zeroing in on the blood.

“Cas, you’re hurt. You’re hurt — are you alright? How deep is it? Did it hit bone? Does it sting?” Without even waiting for an answer, Lithian drew a small portion of liquid back out, gathering and focussing it as he kneeled beside Cas, a hand instinctively moving back to steady him as he did. As soon as steadied himself, he pushed, pulsing a gentle wave of magic into the injury. Then another. And another, gradually working through the damage and determining the best course of action before he got to work healing in earnest.

There is a large tunnel into the glacier itself, the tunnel is icy and slick, with many jagged rocks and ice spikes protruding. As you sneak down the tunnel, you can begin to hear the deep breaths of a dragon. As you come to the end of the tunnel, you can see it widens out into a cavern, large enough for a Dragon to unfurl its wings to stretch. This cavern contains a sleeping Aiskala! Go to Encounter 3!

Quote:
An Aiskala Dragon has charged at your group! Perhaps it's hungry and wants a quick meal, or perhaps you are getting too near its home.. or maybe it just wants to kill things. No matter the reason, please roll for a Dragon Battle! Each battler gets to roll.

Calculate the EXP for Battler's as normal: make sure you divide your exp by however many battler's are fighting, do not include the Civilians for EXP purposes.
If you win, all the participants in the group get an Aiskala Orb, including the civilians!

Return to the original prompt (Red Skull/Black Snake path's or the Dragon's Den) and continue reading!

“I’m fine, Lithian. Just a bite wound.” Casseth smiled as he watched Lithian drop to his knees and worked his magic. Casseth was always grateful for Lithian’s healing abilities. They had helped him many times in the past. As he felt Lith’s magic seep into his wound, and begin mending the damage, images of nights before flit through his head. He brushed his fingers over one of Lith’s horns and tugged lightly. “As much as I love seeing you on your knees, Lith, c’mon, up.” Cas pulled Lith away from his healing, his ankle already feeling ten times better than it had.

He smiled as he reached up and brushed some stray hair out of Lith’s face. There were so many things he wished to tell Lithian but Cas was unsure how to go about doing so. He had never felt so deeply for another being and it confused and thrilled him all in one go. He wanted to do everything in his power to protect and make Lith happy. Cas leaned in, arms snaking up around Lith’s neck and pulling him down for a kiss. He lingered, soft, slow brushes of lips against lips and didn’t pull back again until he shivered.

Won your battle: the Dragon dissipates and leaves you able to continue on into the cave.
The cavern walls are smooth in spots and rough in others. It looks like the dragon you slayed polished the walls over the long years by rubbing itself against them... perhaps to scratch an itch. A fair distance up the cave wall is a smaller tunnel; you think you may be able to reach it!

Do you leave the cave? Go to Beginning.
Do you quit? Go to Quit
Or do you try for the tunnel in the wall? Continue reading then.

Lithian flushed darkly at the commentary, and opened his mouth, but nothing made it out. Instead, Casseth’s fingers brushed his cheek and then tugged him in, and Lithian shivered as they kissed, relaxing into it and gripping at Cas’ hips as he did. Seeing Cas bitten and blood staining the snow had sent fear spiking through him and the solidity — realness — of having Casseth held against him assuaged that panic as well as edging back Lithian’s concerns about the permanence or lack thereof of the current twist in their relationship.

He still had questions he wanted to ask, worries in regards to how they would handle themselves around others, where they would go from here, and what it would mean to their parents and families. But those, for the time being, could wait. Wait until they were off of Aisko, safe, and warm. When the kiss broke, Lithian gave a last, departing squeeze to Cas’ hips and brushed his lips over Cas’ forehead before pulling away.

“There’s a tunnel just up ahead,” he said. “We were close already I think, and I suspect it’s the one indicated on the map…” He frowned at the snow as they approached, noting large, taloned imprints leading up to their destination. Lips pursed, he unstoppered his flasks again. “We may have some company in there, too…”

Despite the tracks, they didn’t meet with any trouble immediately upon entering. After making it in deeper, however, the soft rush of slow, deep breathing became audible as the sounds of the wind and snow petered out, and when they rounded the next corner and the belly of the tunnel expanded into a full yawning cavern, Lithian stopped. There at its center waited a massive, sleeping aiskala dragon. The chill in the room felt alive, as though it were actively trying to steal every breath of heat in their bodies, and Lithian shuddered as he drew the water from his flasks. Silently, he splayed his fingers and pushed, flattening the water along the walls of the tunnel and picking up the ice there, melting it, and gathering it under his control.

When he had enough for a battering ram, he stepped up, drawing his palms closer together above his head, fingers coiled, and then rocked down, pulling all of the liquid together in a stream and shoving it forward. Casseth was hurt, and this beast needed to be out of the way. As soon as the water coiled for it, the aiskala woke with a start, snarling and thrashing, but Lithian blocked off its windpipes, funneling water into its nostrils and mouth and then putting pressure on its eyes. It wailed, though the sound came out as a gargle, and in comparatively little time, its twitching ceased, the whole of it shuddering, and then dissipating into a glimmering ice-white orb.

Lithian shuddered, and relaxed his stance, calling his water back to him with a wince before his eyes settled on yet another tunnel — up the wall. He pursed his lips and glanced back to Cas. “Looks as though we have more climbing ahead?”

Abronaxus, be good to me, please let it be spacious…

Casseth watched as Lithian quickly dispensed of the dragon and pulled his water back to him. His gaze followed Lithian’s as walked up beside him, only a slight limp to his gait. “Mmm. Another tunnel, huh?” He glanced back down to Lithian and frowned. He only hoped that this tunnel wasn’t as narrow as the last one. Though Lithian had not said anything out loud, Casseth had been able to tell that Lith had been uncomfortable. He brought his pack around and grabbed the rope, they’d used earlier, out. “I’ll fly up again and toss the rope down for you.”

Cas spread his wings, crouched and pushed off of the ground. A few strong flaps of his wings was all it took before he was perched on the edge of the tunnel opening. He looked behind him and grimaced at the close quarters. It almost looked as if it was narrower than the one before. He shook his head and sighed, turning his attention back over the ledge and glanced down at Lith. “Incoming,” Cas said as he tossed the rope down for Lithian to grab hold of. “Be careful Lithian, the cliff side looks really slippery.”

To get to the tunnel in the wall, each person must roll1d100! If the first person up has a rope, they may lower it down to give a 10 point bonus to the others rolls.
The use of Climbing Kits are encouraged here! If you cna fly, do not roll, you reach the tunnel automatically.
Keep trying till you succeed or till you give up.
>>1-89: You can't climb up! The slick walls cause you to fall each time. Should you give up on climbing this wall, you may wait till your companions return from exploring and then continue onwards, if you do this you do not get anything found while you are separate from them.
>>90-100: You made it up! After crawling and clinging up the icy walls, you are exhausted and chilled.

You may aid your companions with a rope or you may continue on down the new tunnel. Go to Iced Tunnel

Squinting upwards, Lithian stifled the urge to wince. Much as he had grown more capable over the years, ‘adventuring’ still was not his strong suit, and climbing was high on the list of things he found especially difficult, and intimidating. He only prayed the tunnel upward would be less constricting than the one before it. Shaking such thoughts aside for the time being, however, he reached, and took hold of the offered rope.

Unfortunately, though, without any obvious foot or handholds, Lithian made it only halfway up the slope before yelping as his grip broke, feet skidding against the ice, and he winced as he slid back to the cavern floor below, cheeks burning. “Sorry, I’ll—I’ll try that again…or you can go on without me. You don’t have to wait…”

Cas’ hold, on the rope, tightened as Lithian hoisted himself up. His lips curled upwards as Lithian seemed to be making good progress coming up. It soon faded, though, when Lithian yelped and began to fall back down. Cas’ heart skipped a beat at the sound and his wings spread as he readied himself to fly back down. When Lithian spoke, however, his wings relaxed and he let himself take a breath. He shook his head at Lith. “I’m not going on without you. If you’d like to stop...we can.”

Lithian flushed darker and shook his head. “No, I’m not…” He drew a breath, frustrated with himself. “I’m not going to hold you back on my account.” Of that much, he was determined. He didn’t particularly want to go on insofar as personal desires were taken into account, but above his lack of desire to continue was his desire to please Cas and not interfere with his wishes. Besides, they had made it this far, and how dissatisfying would it be to hold his friend back now?

So, he persisted.

It took several embarrassing attempts and earned him a number of scrapes and close calls, but eventually Lith cut, melted, and climbed his way up the slick expanse, groaning and collapsing on the stone at the top when he reached it. As his eyes trailed upwards, following the length of the narrow — narrow, narrow — tunnel upwards, he winced, and shut his eyes again as his stomach knotted.

“So I…suppose the only way to go is up?” he asked.

As you slither into the ice cold tunnel, you notice immediately that it leads up... almost straight up. The tunnel is too small to fly up but small enough that you can put your feet on one wall and your back against the other to stabilize yourself as you climb up the iced walls.

To get up the tunnel, each person must roll 1d100!
If the first person up has a rope, they may lower it down to give a 10 point bonus to the others rolls. The use of Climbing Kits are encouraged here! Remember that you cannot fly up this tunnel it is too small.

>>1-89: You can't climb up! The slick walls cause you to fall each time.
>>90-100: You made it up! After crawling and clinging up the icy walls, you are exhausted and chilled.

You may as many times as possible; if you wish you may roll 4 d100’s at the same time to save time and just rp you failing multiple times before you manage to climb up.
Since the tunnel is too small for more than one person, please only have one person climbing at any one time, and once they succeed the next may climb up.

Once you reach the top, Go to Skeleton’s Icy Grave
Casseth’s hands were on Lith the second he was on the ledge with him. “You made it.” He grinned as he tugged Lith in for a tight hug. However, Cas winced when attention was drawn back to their current task. His gaze flicked to the narrow opening and tunnel beyond. “Yeah...there’s no other way.” He hesitated, briefly, before pulling away from Lith. “I’ll go up first and lower the rope down to you.” Cas gave a small, lopsided smile. He frowned as he turned away from Lith and looked up the tunnel. He wouldn’t be able to fly, climbing was his only choice this time. He tucked his wings in close and slithered into the tunnel and began to climb. As if by instinct, Cas was able to find an appropriate hand hold and foot hold on the way up. With that, and the fact that the tunnel was narrow to begin with, Cas was able to brace himself and climb up with the ease of someone who loved to climb.

As he pulled himself up over the edge, Cas didn’t give himself time to look around. In no time he was pulling the rope back out of his pack and lowering it down to Lith. Cas gave an encouraging smile. “You can do it, Lith.”

Lithian’s heart felt too large in his throat, alive, wild, and strenuously objecting to the sight above him. Every time he looked, the walls seemed to be closing in, coiling tighter like the icy grip of a giant intent on crushing his bones in its grasp. He shut his eyes and drew a breath. The way up was miserable: his limbs shook, his grip faltered, every inch he made upwards felt like a mile. And then he slipped, and went skidding down. And again. And again. And again.

By his fourth failed attempt, Lithian felt sore, aching all over, nursing bruises and a banged wing. His shoulders sank as he glanced back up to Casseth. He didn’t wanted to hold Cas back, but the prospect of making it to the top was looking narrower by the moment, and his breath felt ragged in his lungs, his body chilled to the bone as well as battered. He resisted the urge to waste his magic on such minor injuries and shook his head.

“Cas, I…if I don’t make it up, you can explore the passage beyond…we must be near the end by now…? I can wait here or…or try to keep coming up, but…it doesn’t seem I’m very good at this, and I hate to slow you down…”

Casseth winced each time Lithian slipped and fell back down to the ground. He could see that each time Lith forced himself up into the tunnel, it terrified him. Cas frowned and shook his head at Lith’s words. “I’m not going on without you.” He gripped the rope in his hands as he glanced down to Lith and decided that it was best if they just turn back now. Better to do that than to put his friend through any more torture. “I’ll just come down, Lithian and we can leave.”

Lithian flushed darker, immediately shaking his head and staving off the desire to shiver. “No! No, I’ll—just…give me a few more tries…” ‘If I can’t make it, I suppose I’ll have no choice, but…’ Shutting his eyes, Lith sent up a quick, fleeting prayer to his god for strength before tucking his cloak back in close around him and moving to attempt a way up. Again.

He fell. Up, and down again. Lithian lost track of how many times overall that he failed, but finally — finally — just as he began to think he truly ought to give up before he broke a bone on the way down, Lithian felt the upper lip of the next tunnel under his fingertips. Heartbeat racing, he clung to it, half panicked he’d only make it this far just to fall yet again, but then Casseth’s hands were on him, helping and pulling him up, and Lithian shuddered, scrambling back from the edge and then tucking close to Cas as he groaned.

“You definitely owe me a swim,” he murmured. “Are we…at the end…?”

Casseth was relieved when Lithian finally made it up to the top and he scrambled to help pull him up. His arms instantly went around Lith as his friend tucked close to him. A small laugh escaped him at the mention of swimming. “Anything for you, Lithian.” He placed a light kiss on one of Lith’s horns before he glanced up and around the room. Cas’ eyes narrowed on a faint, yellow light off in the distance. “I think we are,” he said as he pushed himself up from the ground and tugged Lithian up with him.

He rubbed his hands up and down Lith’s arms and smiled before taking hold of his hand and lacing their fingers together. “C’mon. Let’s see what that light is, yeah?” He moved, squeezing LIth’s hand lightly as they made their way over to the light. Cas stopped in his tracks, eyebrows knitting together, at the sight of the skeleton. “It’s so...small…” His wings sagged, along with his shoulders when Cas thought about someone so young falling victim to the cold of Aisko. It could have easily have been him, when he was younger. A shudder traveled through his body. He let go of Lith’s hand and rubbed his arms.

You have finally climbed up that freezing tunnel! Panting with exhaustion, your breath steaming in the air, you arrive at a small bubble like cave. The walls are mostly smooth, though there appears to a small gouged out hole in one wall. It isn’t very deep and next to it lays a skeleton partially iced over.
The skeleton is small, about the size of 10 year old. Upon its skull are three small horns, two smaller ones above the eye sockets and one larger one rising from between the empty sockets. Laying scattered about the area around the rib cage lies many small bones, and they remind you of a bird wings. Lying clutched in its dead skeletal hand is a stave. Near it is an old back pack, half covered in ice.

Inside the backpack are two frozen water bottles, some cold but still usable rope, and ruined climbing gear. There are also some perfectly preserved arrows lying next to the back pack and a broken bow.
In the skeleton's hand is a wand that glows a cold pale yellow, its wood and glass like structure seems untouched by the cold, or rather, the cold seems to be enhanced by it. The ice casing over the skeleton is centered about this stave.

Do you wish to pick any of this stuff up?
The cold rope is just rope, you may add it to your inventory. The climbing kit is ruined by the cold and ice unfortunately, so you can't add any climbing gear to your inventory. And you can add some arrows, though these aren't special, they're just regular arrows that look fancy and can be used for rp purposes but that's it.
The frozen water bottles are special. They are filled with water from the frozen Lake Vonafel.

Each person may add 1 rope and 1 Water from Vonafel to their inventory.
Everyone who made it up here also receives: 1 Staff of Cold
User Image User Image

Leaving the cave is much easier than entering it, all you do is slide down! You find yourself back in side the Dragon's den, what do you wish to do now?
Do you leave the cave and choose another path? Go to Beginning.
Or have you had enough and are ready to head home? Go to Quit

Lithian frowned, heart knotting at the sight of the child. Clearly underdeveloped in bone structure, it couldn’t have been much older than ten summers when the cold took it, and the combination of tri-pronged horns and wing bone structure reminded him of Casseth to an eerie degree. Shuddering, he drew a hand gently down Cas’ back, comforting as best he could, before kneeling beside the small pile of remains and murmuring a prayer for the child’s soul.

After finishing what little he could do so far as funeral rites were concerned, Lithian and Casseth took the remaining functional goods with them for the way back, and left in short order. The staff — a luminous, pale turquoise blue — glowed with remaining magic, and Lithian wondered what powers it held within its gnarled cane. Later, perhaps, he would test it properly. For now, he was desperately happy to be leaving the frozen wastes, and when they caught the next ship out, several days later, he felt as though they were heading home.
