Shh!

Shortly after Ripley awoke, Finn was there, dropping a tray of food off at his infirmary bed with a loud clatter of hard plastic against hard plastic. It was a wonder that nothing spilled or toppled off of the tray.

"Morning, idiot." He said. Loudly. Leaning in and practically shouting it in Ripley's ear.

He was at least smiling, though it was impossible to tell just how annoyed he still was.

Serenade

Finn cocked his head to the side slightly, back to idly strumming the guitar, as he appeared to think it over.

"First of all, it better be really, really nicely. Second, if I agree, you have to let me finish my song."

My Two Favorite People

Finn had screwed up, and he had realized it pretty quickly upon awakening the first morning after Ripley had spent the night. The morning after a night of whiskey, cigarettes, and a contract that had been sealed with a kiss before that all devolved into something much more primal, though it had not been without it's moments of sheer passion as well. That night had been mostly sleepless, and when the sun had filtered through the windows on a room that was a far cry from the meticulous clean Finn usually left it in, with tangled sheets and a knocked over nightstand, with broken glass and cigaratte ashes nearby, a half eaten MRE of teriyaki beef sitting uncovered on the floor, and clothes strewn about, one Finn Connor had been feeling more then just satisfied, he was feeling sated.

But that had been hours ago, and now he sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the phone in his hand. He needed to call her. He would have to call her, eventually. He needed to explain to her, to his ex, why she could no longer come over any night she pleased to spend the night in his room, no matter how innocent the intention. The rule had been meant mostly as a way to keep he or Ripley from walking in on one another should they be with somebody else, but it was more then that. It was polite. To Finn, it was a way of showing that the other man meant more to him, that he would be willing to share his bed with him, and only him, and nobody else. It was what distinguished them from being something so simple and meaningless as ******** buddies or friends with benefits. They would have something more then just that. Ripley would be his and he would be Ripley's just...without any desperate need to make it into a commitment, to actually label it as anything ridiculously meaningful.

And he needed to respect that this was a rule that he had requested, and that Ripley had agreed to on the condition that it worked both ways. That meant that, in order to adhere to the arrangement that they had made, then he was going to have to break the news to Fini.

Finn let out a long sigh through his nose, falling back to slouch against a wall on a bed that had been freshly made. He was alone in a room that he had spent all morning tidying, washing down walls and surfaces with bleach and soap, though unfortunately due to his bad habits there would always be the faintest hint of cigarette smoke in the air no matter how hard he scrubbed. How long it would remain in such a state was anybodies guess. Finn liked his room clean, but he wasn't as a**l about it as some of his fellow island mates.

A thumb hovered over the screen on his phone, and finally, he began to dial her number. Putting the phone to his ear, he waited for her to pick up, while a small part of him actually hoped that she wouldn't. If she didn't answer, he wouldn't have to explain. If he didn't have to explain, she wouldn't bother him about relentlessly until he finally spilled just who it was he was seeing now.

The ringing cut off as a voice answered, and Finn could feel a smile tugging on his lips before he sat up, running the fingers of his free hand through his hair. "Morning, Sunshine. We need to talk...again."

---------------

Of course she wouldn't just let it go at "I'm sort of seeing somebody new. Kind of."

Rather then sit there and go through the torture of having her harass him relentlessly, however, he had quieted her down quickly by telling her exactly who it was.

That had only resulted in laughter, mockery, and too many jokes to count. At least she seemed okay with it, however. More then okay, actually. She seemed happy for him, and for some reason, having her not be angry over the entire thing came as a great relief.

And besides, it wasn't that big of a deal. He could still go and spend the night with her, if Ripley didn't claim him for the evening first (or vice versa), and well, who knew, maybe a day would come when the other man could just come along as well.

After all, Finn could think of far worse ways to spend a night then with his two favorite people.

A little morning thought

Ripley woke slowly to the same old room, with the same old heat and the same old dreary fog. He had been on the island for almost a year now, and still the hardest part of his day was waking up in the morning. It wasn't the life-threatening danger, or the disgust of his superiors, or even the work; it was waking to realize that he'd have to face the life threatening danger and the disgust of his superiors while suffering through gruelling work on an island that was hotter than hell.

Every morning, he struggled with it, and craved the simpler time before all of this, back when he'd wake grumbling about the numbing cold.

He sat up, ran his hand through his hair, and glanced down at the sleeping form beside him. It was blurry without his glasses, and hard to focus on, but he was coming to know his contour without the need for sight. Every line of muscle, scar and birthmark, already being burned to memory the more nights they shared, and the more mornings he had like this one. Those rare few where he woke up before Finn and not with him. It had been weeks since their little agreement, and it was a difficult adjustment for him to make; in one night, he had gone from always being alone, to having a near-constant companion.

Some mornings, he just wanted to be alone again. Those were the mornings that he woke up, fearing that sometime soon would come the demand for feelings between them. Others, like this one, he was more receptive to the idea that this could really work, without needing anything more than what they currently had. He could be as mean and cold as he wanted, and it wouldn't change anything. He could lob a book at Finn's head, and there would be nothing to apologize for. Likewise, Finn could be as cruel to him as possible and he could easily shrug it off, then simply text him when he needed to. There seemed to be no lines for them to cross, so long as they adhered to the rules they had put in place.

He really appreciated that, though it was difficult for him to properly show.

"Finn." He murmured, leaning over to press a small kiss to his bare shoulder. "Wake up." He urged a little louder this time, and shifted to place a gentle kiss to the side of his neck, his hair brushing the other man's shoulder. "You're in my way." His next kiss was pressed just under his ear, gentle and soft.

"Get up, you ********. Or I'll push you out." Another small kiss was placed to Finn's neck, as if to soothe or distract from his not-to-kind threat.
