“Dunno, alla 'em look pretty important...” he smiled wryly at Anita. He leaned against the wall nearest to the brew bar and shrugged. He managed to laugh a bit at the suggestion and fished through his pants pockets for his own wallet. Once he pulled it out, he took out his card-- it was a bit bent and obviously worn. He looked ******** tired and like a deer in headlights in his image, but he looked pretty much the same as he looked now otherwise, which earned a quirked brow and confused smile. Did thinning down age him backwards?
“Yeaaah, 'bout that... I haven't got a new ID since, like--” he looked at the license a little closer, then whistled, “A long time ago.”

She shrugged with a smile and turned to lean against the brew bar itself to face Mordekai, hands tucked in her pockets. When he fished his own license out, she craned her neck to try and peer but couldn't see much. Her brow raised at his reaction to it, then upturned. Anita pushed off the counter and moved a little closer. She tried to keep the concern in her voice at a minimum. ”How long ago? Can I see?”
Anita dug her wallet out again and removed her own ID to offer. ”You can see my ugly mug, too.”

“Huh?” he glanced up at Anita and laughed sheepishly, but gave a shrug nonetheless and handed his license to her. “Yeah, sure. Ah-- if y'want.” He took Anita's license, unsure if he should actually look at it or not-- did she offer out of courtesy? Either way, he took a glance over the new license design. It had all this intricate s**t while his was mostly colored solid. Some of the text was even kind of faded, which-- even for its age, probably wouldn't have happened if he handled it less roughly.
“Got it back in 2004, expired 2009,” he paused and smiled wryly, “Dunno how I got away widdit after it expired. I was kinna bigger befo'...”

Compared to Mordekai's license, Anita's was pristine. She didn't exactly care for it to ensure that, but she was far from rough in handling anything in her wallet. Anita looked it over, brows a little creased at his almost skittish look in the picture. Glancing between them, it was easy to note the difference in weight.
Anita glanced up at Mordekai when he mentioned getting away with it, then creased her brows at the expiration date. ”Wait-- you drove out here on...?” she didn't need to finish. Anita bit her lip and lightly tapped the card against her palm, then sighed. ”Mordekai...” she chided quietly, though the small smile she kept ensured he wasn't about to get chewed out. It was too late for that, anyway.
She was about to hand his ID back when a different date caught her attention. Anita squinted, then peered over at him. ”You were born in seventy? I thought you were an eighties baby.”

Mordekai hunched over and smiled a bit apologetically at Anita at the sigh, then glanced to the side to see if anybody had heard-- not that it mattered. He stood upright again, laughed, and offered a halfhearted shrug. “'Ey, s'not like I really need it! I bike most days.” And people at liquor stores just told him to get his s**t renewed. All they needed was a picture and his birthday from the state, anyway.
He offered Anita's ID back when she offered his; he offered a bemused and lopsided smile at the sentiment, then gleaned back over Anita's ID; she was a '90s kid. He never really tried to estimate her age beyond the fact that she was an Adult before now. “Yea, 'm older'n dirt. My brother's the 80s kid,” he chuckled, “But 'e looks 'round your age to me.”

Anita's smile just turned to a wry smirk at that. She gave Mordekai a disapproving squint while taking her card back. ”Nooo, you're not,” Anita returned the ID to its rightful place, as well as the wallet, just as her drink order finished. She slid it to the side of the bar and out of the way after grabbing a straw. ”Dirt's way older.”
She paused to recall Johan's appearance. Mordekai did specify they looked the same age to him, but to her Johan certainly looked older. If he was an '80s kid, that put him somewhere in the thirty year old range, which was where she initially pegged Mordekai, and to her Johan looked the part. ”Weird,” she murmured quietly while peeling one end of her straw. Without offering warning or even a change in her demeanor, Anita put the uncovered end of the straw to her lips and blew the paper off so it flicked Mordekai's cheek.

Mordekai took his ID as Anita took her own. “I dunno, man,” he walked up to take his own order-- he took the beverage and looked at the name written on it, Mordecai, and smiled. It was technically right. “That's pretty damn old.”
The coffee was nice and warm against his cold palm. He held it with both of his hands for warmth, and he blew on the top before taking a sip. Mordekai glanced over at Anita at the murmur. “Hm?” he closed one eye at the floating piece of paper and let it sink to the floor. He laughed, then glanced over at the straw bin himself. “Ever tried drinkin' somethin' hot widda straw?”

”Naahhh.” Anita held the straw between her teeth and chuckled when the paper connected. She bent down to grab it off the floor, then put it in the trash can where it ought to be. Her own drink was cold and stark white cmpared to any usual coffee drink, complete with a dollop of whipped cream on top. Anita's was cold but she was just as eager to hold it was Mordekai was about his.
”Yeah, it sucks,” she scrunched her face up while taking a sip, ”Why, you want one?” Anita reached over to the dispenser and fiddled with the latch, drawing out several only to drop her hand and leave them there. With her lips still closed around her straw, Anita nodded her head towards one of the empty seats and started walking. ”Seriously, though, I thought you were thirty-something.”

“Nah, was jus' curious-- though maybe scorchin' my throat might warm me up, huh?” Mordekai took a few straws from the dispenser when Anita made them available, anyway. He could probably think of something to do with them, and his hands were always jittery and in need of occupying. With a few straws in one hand, he glanced over at Anita and followed her toward the seats. He took a sip of his coffee.
“Did you really?” he quirked his brows and smiled, then tapped his face with his hand full of straws, “Must be all 'em beauty products kickin' in, ye'know, shea butter 'n s**t.”

”Oh, are you cold?” Anita asked quietly, a bit muffled with her mouth on the straw. She was mid-sip when Mordekai joked, and turned away for a moment to smirk and swallow her drink before she could let herself laugh. 'AVON calling.” They stopped at the table she initially scoped out and Anita rested her hand on it, lightly tapping one finger on the wooden surface while staring out the front windows. The few seats out there were empty, as well. ”They got the AC cranked in here, huh? Wanna drink outside?”

“Li'l bit, but 'ey, I'll live!” He chuckled at Anita's addition, “They should be hirin' me as a poster-girl, right? Usin' all that phallic acid gimme a nice shine,” he paused to think, then laughed, “I gotta feelin' I called that wrong.”
He looked outdoors and shrugged, one hand already rested on the head of a chair. “Ah, no worries, we can go wherever. Got sleeves if it gets bad.”

Anita turned to look at Mordekai when he paused in his own joke. She smiled, but the longer he thought about it the wider it became. ”Think you did,” she nodded with a wide eyed grin.
She gave the surrounding seats another glance over before shrugging and heading for the door. ”Might be better off,. I keep laughing, I don't want to snort or something in here.” Anita scoffed and, once again, held the door open for him with her butt.

Mordekai shrugged and grinned right back, then took Anita's lead and walked behind her toward the exit. “What's wrong with snortin'?”
Mordekai took another sip of his coffee and quietly thanked Anita while walking out the door. Reprieve from the cold inside was instant; he walked away from the shade of the threshold roof and closed his eyes for a bit to enjoy the sunlight. He hummed. “Gambino's the best,” he noted, quietly.

”Nothin', really,” Anita grinned as she let the door close behind them. She glanced back at the main window and lowered her voice. ”But everyone in there's so quiet and stuffy.”
Anita took her seat at one of the small outdoor tables. It had an umbrella in the center, but it was currently folded up as the shade from the awning was enough for now. Mordekai's admiration of Gambino made Anita smile and she took a moment to look out at the scenery while sipping her drink. ”Yeah. Your area's really nice, too. The garden, especially. Don't have anything like that here.”

Mordekai smirked over at Anita. “Think that's why they're crankin' up the AC?” He looked back out toward the shore before following Anita over to one of the tables. He sat and continued to admire their view of the seaside. Mordekai sipped his coffee and nodded at her sentiment, and he bore a smile while glancing at the table.
“Yea... it is real nice. Grateful everyday for it.” He idly tapped his coffee cup with his thumb, then glanced up at Anita, “Speakin' of which, you or Cruz interested in takin' some flowers?”
