Cee blinked, taken aback almost. "Issat too much fer you?" When she said under a hundred, that was cheap. "If you can't afford it we kin share.." But she'd been squirreling money away. She'd even sold off a few small bags of her weed to get an extra buck. Cee was discovering lots of small ways to make money on Deus, not excluding gambling and illicit goods. "When'sa last time you got a room somewhere? Usually its like a buck twenty or so ta git a room in the city." Minimum. One-twenty was like holiday inn price. And Cee wasn't much of a Holiday Inn girl. She walked while she talked, glancing down at her phone occasionally (which piped aloud 'In 100 feet turn right') until they were standing in front of a hotel. It was older looking but had a doorman and was squashed between two much larger, much newer, buildings.

"It's been at least...I don't know. Three years." He sounded more amused than annoyed, though, shaking his head as he looked up at the buildings around him: familiar, but different from New York, certainly. They didn't ring quite right, but there was something nice about that. New. "And then, it wasn't in a city. It was on the long trek cross-country." A beat, as he looked back down at her and grinned. "It's fine. I still have half of last paycheck, plus this one. I just never spent that much on a room before. We can get two, and you can be as loud as you want."

"Oh precious boy.." Cee shook her head and took his arm like he was some wayward urchin. She even reached up and tugged one of his flyaways. "Mama will make sure you have nice things from now on." And with that they made their way to the front desk and Cee was in her element. She was polite but demanding. She asked a thousand questions (most about things a normal person would never consider), and if they ever said no her head bobbled back in disbelief like it was on a spring. By the time the exchange ended they were getting free WiFi and had rooms right next to each other. Unfortunately with availability and the age of the hotel they would be sharing an adjoining bathroom. "It's good enough." Cee was sitting on the bed in her room, looking through both open bathroom doors, into Ever's room now. "You good? cuz Imma'bout ta shower an'then you can have it. Aight?"

"You worry about me too much." He'd drop everything by the bed, hesitate a moment, and then push it under the bed, like he was concerned someone would come in and take it. A telling sort of gesture: Ever didn't usually have things worth stealing, but there was still some instinct behind it. Old habits. He'd done the same in his basement room at Deus. "How long's a shower take you? Like an hour?" It was a tease, looking up at her, but with something genuine behind it: looking her over with narrowed eyes. "Long enough for me to go out and buy my cigarettes, you think?"

Cee hated to admit that sometimes she enjoyed taking care of men in her life. A childhood being told what to do to be a proper wife, followed by teen years where she got to watch how codependent her parents were. It was all a reinforcement of what she viewed as the proper place of women and men, and the duties therein. Like many women, she'd realized how hopeless males were and without a woman's guidance how quickly they fell into laziness. "Whatever." Was her only response. It was like he'd caught her guiltily caring about anything. Cee hopped up and started pulling out clothes and hanging them. "Half hour. Maybe forty five but probly less." Cee didn't bother looking through the bathroom this time, she was occupied with her belongings. "I'll do my makeup in here ta save you that time.." She didn't bother with closing doors when she stripped down and if Ever didn't want to see it he just better not look. A minute or so later the water was flicked on and she peered at him, naked as a jay bird. "If you hang up yer clothes by the door we kin like ghetto-steam em ta git out the wrinkles."

"Uh." he didn't want to see, but he didn't look away immediately: like a deer in headlights, he just blinked at her for a long moment before he gathered his wits to turn and snatch up his key card. It wasn't exactly that Ever was offended by the naked female form, so much as he really did have other things to do, and sitting around here while Cee showered. "I can do it in half an hour." He hesitated, not quite looking back to the bathroom. "I'll just run. Seriously." But before he dashed off, he'd follow her advise: carefully hanging the new button down on the doorknob of the bathroom. He'd wear it when they went out. And then he'd go, to get his case of cigarettes, and maybe a rug for his room, and a weird blanket to toss over the bottom of his bed.

By the time Ever returned, Cee was wearing a dress and padding around in her bare feet with her hair wrapped up in a towel. She looked so tiny without her shoes. The steamy bathroom air still clung between their rooms but the clothes he'd hung out had sort of settled into a slightly damn, less wrinkled state. "So.." She was in front of the mirror in her own room, applying eye makeup. "I looked up some places around and thur's this like.. diner joint that is a bar slash diner slash club. And nights they git a DJ and s**t and when I asked them about the crowd they said its mixed." Her head popped out to look at him. "But Yelp says it's aight too so I figger theres something fer everyone. You git yer cancer sticks?"

"I got them." He'd lean in her doorway, now, to watch her apply her eye-liner, the mascara: both pale eyebrows raised, and Ever very still. It was curious, and fascinated, not because he wanted to put it on himself, but because it was such a strange thing for him. He wanted to ask how she managed not to poke herself in the eye, but figured she'd just look at him. Because she was good at it, obviously. It took him a bit to focus again, to blink into himself and breathe out: about when she was done curling her lashes, really. Then he could shake himself into focus. "...we can go wherever you want. I wasn't planning on pickups, not really, with you around." It sounded insulting, faintly, even if he didn't mean it that way. And Ever didn't hear it. He didn't apologize.

Cee's eyebrow actually lifted, forcing her to pause what she was doing to her face. With all the work she'd done, her makeup looked natural and smooth. Her eyes, while slightly smokey, faded into an orange umber tone that complimented her tanned skin nicely. The layers of foundation were expertly done so that she barely looked like she was wearing anything at all. "Because'a me?" Concetta actually scoffed a bit, "What'm I gunna cramp yer style?" She resumed now, powdering something, then adjusting her bust in the mirror, and finally letting her dark, wet hair tumble out of the towel. The smell of her shampoo drifted freely as it was released and leaned into the bathroom to find the provided hair dryer. "Well that's where we're goin." It was all she said before the dryer's sound filled the rooms and made speaking nearly impossible.

Was she mad? Ever blinked at her as she blow dried her hair, head tipped to the side, mulling over what he might have said to upset: but yeah, she kind of did cramp his style, in that his style usually involved looking pitiful and lonely and friendless and then tossing a healthy dose of self-sufficient, mouthy bravado over it. Having a wing man didn't help, when your whole schtick was not having a wing man. This could have been a depressing thought, but instead it made him quirk a smile, shaking his head and sliding away to get changed. He'd be dressed long before her: brand new collared shirt open over a brand new tee, brand new jeans tucked into still-new combat boots. His hair was a wreck, but Ever didn't seem to give a s**t about that, as he settled back in to watch her finish applying hair spray, to lock her updo in place, to preserve her volume. "Would I look more appealing, or just ridiculous, if I tried that pretty boy eyeliner stuff?" He suspect ridiculous, but...

She was securing some sort of golden chain type thing into her hair. Perhaps it was a headband, or just some weird trendy thing that no one knows the name of. It matched the bracelets that usually, and still, dangled on her wrist and the necklace she'd put on for the evening. There was last minute hair poking, side smoothing, and skirt pulling. "Guyliner?" Cee finally ventured into Ever's side of the room and peered up at his face. "Only if you can do it super thin otherwise you gonna look like a raccoon.." Cee eyed him side to side, "Yer pretty pale.. so.." he got a cheek pat. "Yer fine baby. You ready?" She had a small clutch, the hotel keycard and her money. In preparation for the night she pulled the doors to the bathroom shut and exited through her room into the hall. When she joined Ever she already had her phone out, loading up the their destination so she could lead them there. "Least it's walkin distance." It was, though Cee held her own arms against the windy night. She was the type of woman to go out in a miniskirt in a snowstorm if the club was bumpin enough. You never brought a coat! How inconvenient!

Ever just had to shove feet into his boots and then he was with her easily enough: and, in contrast, he had on multiple layers, and eyed her askance, like he wasn't really sure if it was the gay best friend's job to offer his girl a coat against the breeze. In truth, he'd never really knows that many women, before Deus, and those he had known, none had really been like Cee. "You're crazy," He settled on, prying out a cigarette to smoke as they walked. He also hadn't smoked quite this much, pre-recruitment. He'd drank, more. Maybe it was to make up for it. "You'd still be cute in flats and a sweater." But it was, just faintly, teasing.

"I look cute in errything." She huffed but smiled and gave Ever a shove. The bar wasn't far, as promised, and her phone navigator got them there just fine. It was nestled into a side block, slightly away from the sky scrapers, between some sort of clothes boutique for pregnant women and a brick front building that was unmarked, but had bars on the windows and door. There was a promising gold glow from the windows and quite a few people standing outside having a smoke. As she'd said they ranged in style from lazy hipster to glam punk to 50's housewife retro. Perhaps Cee stood out a bit, but she always did, and didn't seemed affected by it at all. Warmth hit them immediately as they entered, the heat of bodies met the smell of beer and liquor and every once in a while something delicious smelling wafted from a swinging door that implied it was the kitchen. They could seat themselves freely in the bar area though the pulsing beats of music came from another room that seemed to be the DJ she'd read about. "Driiiiinks!" Cee trilled and latched to Ever's arm.

It did smell good: good enough that even Ever's nose twitched, drawn in, curious. But Cee was right and drinks came first and, since she'd done all the work to get them here, Ever would cover -- whatever she wanted to order, for both of them, which would probably leave him drinking something strange and tasty instead of his usual vodka down the throat. They could linger at the bar, and where Cee stood out, he'd probably disappear into the background. Aside from his height and the pale shock of his hair, Ever had very little to make him stand out, dressed like the brokest of broke college students. He nursed his drink and blinked down at Cee. "We should eat. I haven't eaten much...and then, you don't have to stick around if you want to go hunting..."

"Hahah.. I don't hunt." Cee grinned. She'd, surprisingly, ordered them non-fruity drinks. Something called a Black and Tan which turned out was half Guiness and half hard apple cider. They arrived in pint glasses, the black beer sitting heavily on top and with perfect bisection, the cider clear and gold on the bottom half. "I had this one time wit dis guy I was seein. I'll try errything but this is perty good, plus like.. its filling." She swatted him and giggled when he offered to pay but there was no struggle, really, when push came to shove. A bar was a bar. A club was a club. Their table was eyed by passersby as much as any was. Cee would have happily picked apart every bit of behavior in the room (for Ever's entertainment) if she hadn't been occupied ordering them some sort of fried appetizer with a selection of chipotle and wasabi mayos. She debated verbally with the waitress about if the mussels in red sauce on the menu were any good, coming off as slightly demanding, but by the time the waitress left she huffily justified herself to her friend about how she won't eat 's**t seafood or s**t gravy'. Cee sipped her drink, swiping her tongue across her lips for the Guiness foam. "So.." She looked only at Ever, keeping him her focus so as to appear very absorbed. It made it easier for others to get a good look. Let them take it all in before she gave them her eyes. "I don'hunt unless I need ta. I think we need ta worry about you boy cause you look like you'll sink right inta a wall if I let ya."
