Better, yes, but not without more authority. After all, how good could his pick really get if even he could still be called someone's lackey still? Ami's selection, however, was interesting in that they were a varied group and a happy reminder of just how small the island community really was.

"I know of a few of them. Miss Taylor I've met once or twice; I won't bad mouth a fellow coffee cultist," Jack said with a little smile. His experience with Otto was restricted to lurking Twitter and whatever bullshit had happened in the New Years universe, and he was in no way about to bring up Stormy, though a piece of him enjoyed the obnoxious comment. There was one he decided to zero in on.

His smile faded. "I've never met Evan Roberts personally, but I did see him in action during the recent horseman mission. He is . . . something of interest to me. An associate of mine has been injured by him, and I am beginning to suspect he is volatile. Perhaps in a way any hunter would be, but," his brows drew down, "it is a pet peeve of mine to see recovering patients being nearly killed for a personal vendetta. He has since been reprimanded from what I've heard, but I doubt that the matter is resolved."

Coffee cultist? What a vulgar phrasing. Minus ten points to Jack, for not seeing the glory of the tea kingdom.

Ami's lips curled into a smile as Jack began to speak of Evan's drive. "I certainly don't see how that is any of my concern." Her head lightly tilted to the side, in an eerily empty motion. "However if Evan hurt an individual, I am certain that both the victim deserved it and that he has been swiftly punished if not." The life division, in Ami's eyes, was absolute.

"Therefore I wonder why you bring it up as though it is something we should meddle in." Perhaps Jack had a more interesting point of view on the matter, or something more to add?

"Earlier you asked me about myself: I was only expressing how little I appreciate my tools being tampered with. The associate in question was Craft, who I mentioned as being one of my errand girls." There was a verbal shrug somewhere in there. "Any implication of it being your immediate concern is a misunderstanding; I only felt it fair to mention the incident since you employ him, should it become a reoccurring event." As he would assume any complaints about his own would be forwarded to his attention in turn.

"Fair enough," Ami responded. Wanting to keep your tools in place was a perfectly reasonable thing. "Though I certainly won't inhibit his actions until they become harmful to me."

Her French onion soup had finally arrived. After being asked if she'd like pepper on the top (just a little, yes that's fine, thank you) she took a spoonful of it and blew, actually somewhat excited for her meal. She hadn't had really nicely cooked food in ages.

After a few moments in silence due to her eating her food, she said, "You strike me as someone useful, for the record." That was a compliment. Maybe.

"Of course." Get involved only as much as it was beneficial to.

Seconds later his dish arrived as well, and with a nod of thanks to the waitress, Jack began to cut his chicken. "And you strike me as a shrewd investor," he said in turn, taking perhaps a little too much pleasure with the smells of their food alone. Months of MREs and general caf food had made him forget just how wonderful food could be. "If you would have me, I'd join your demon project. Something tells me the results will take you places."

And control was always useful to have.

"I will not have you. I will call upon your skills as I deem necessary, but you certainly may not call yourself an associate." Ami was very selfish with her research. Mostly because when the results went to Dr. H's desk, it would be her name on the bright, ivory folder. Nobody else's.

Another bite of her soup and she watched Jack carefully. "Do tell me- have you begun focusing on a specialization?" Because as a lifer, one shouldn't exist without a purpose. That was the goal, right?
