Blue Rievegeth
+2 for blues

Rievegeth didn't really give a wherry's tail for the bigger males. They'd learn to steer clear his anger or they'd feel it. He leveled baleful orange-ish eyes at any male who tried to glare him down. Namely that dull brown Voracath. The blue silently bared his teeth a moment, then ignored the larger dragon. He wasn't here for the males. If the gold wanted a strong dragon he was that. He knew how to use his rage to fuel his abilities.

His eyes on the gold as she turned and climbed higher he pushed himself. He saw the sudden change of direction and quickly started calculating the places she might go. Here, or here, or there. Rievegeth looked up as she flew by heading back along their route. Well! Now was his chance. The blue flipped himself around as fast as he could to keep the most of the opportunity she presented him.

(First roll is distance, second is attack)

Gereth was becoming impatient with Calith's failure to acknowledge him. The bronze flew towards Voracath and attempted to strike him with a claw. If Calith would not acknowledge him as the best, he would have to prove it to her! Thoughts that he had sired Voracath didn't enter his mind: that didn't matter. Calith was the only thing that mattered: and he would win her again!

Voracath

So focused he was on following Calith, Voracath didn't see Gereth gaining on him at all until the larger bronze was in his face with claws flashing. Streaks of bright green opened on the brown's dark hide and ichor flowed freely. Voracath roared his rage and slashed back. He wanted to go? Voracath would force him out of the skies!

Blue Gyafrith
+ 2 for Blues

The force of his brother's attack had caused him to fall back behind the others who had started after the queen. He let out a growl and was half tempted to get the brown back for that, but Ashlyn's voice in his mind told him he was better than that. If he wanted to win, he should do it properly, not stoop to his brother's level. Gyafrith told her he would not attack his brother and that she should go find T'anis..so he could help her with the lust, if needs be. Then he noticed the queen's turn and he knew this might be his chance, so he powered after her and went to make the turn as smoothly as he could. He noticed his brother getting attacked and he felt a slight bit of satisfaction by that. He then turned to focus on catching up with the queen, he knew he had some ground to make up.

Round 3 End

1st – Gereth – 53 = 36 + 17
2nd – Voracath – 49 = 40 + 12 + 1 + 1 - 5
3rd – Orthoth – 34 = 25 + 9
4th – Rievegeth – 33 = 13 + 18 + 2
5th – Gyafrith – 29 = 18 + 9 + 2
----------------------------------------------
The pack was thinning, her last manoeuvre putting a lot of distance between her and some of the males. Clearly too much for them to justify trying to catch up. Surprisingly the little blue from the start was still here, but he was no longer the first. At least the brown's strike hadn't knocked him out just yet. Calith would hate to think that he had been knocked out by foul play, falling from exhaustion and giving up was fine, but being forced out wasn't. That skewed the results somewhat. Even a powerful male could be taken out of the running by a lucky blow from a weaker male. It was all terribly hypocritical since no matter how strong a male was Calith wouldn't even hesitate to knock him out of the sky if he tried to catch her before she wanted to be caught. She made the rules of this, but she didn't have to play by them.

Her remaining followers were made up of the two blues, the aggressive brown and two bronzes. Certainly a mixed batch, that was to be sure. Orthoth was holding rather far back of the pack and Calith had to wonder if perhaps he had a plan. That maybe he was conserving energy and waiting for an opening. It was just as possible that he really couldn't keep up with the younger males, but it was too early in the flight for her to say. Calith wasn't even feeling strained yet, it'd be a long while before she decided to bring this to a close. If she wasn't tired then neither were they and she wanted a clear winner by the end of this. Even if she had to drive herself to exhaustion to get one.

The front was being held by Gereth and Voracath. The two seemed to be throwing the most into this, Voracath even trying to take another male out of the running. The brown was in front and that surprised Calith a little. Not that browns hadn't performed well in her flights before, but that one would be leading was an interesting thing to note. Calith had been leisurely glancing back of the males when Gereth launched his attack. In sheer surprise the gold actually stopped. Mid-flight she had stopped. A surprised shriek erupting from her throat as wounds were opened and ichor flowed. This wasn't right! The occasional strike she could allow, but not this! The realisation that she was stationary dawned on Calith and the gold immediately shut her wings, twisting into a vertical dive. No, she couldn't allow their actions to have her be caught prematurely. The gold disappeared into the cloud layer below, being hidden should give her time to put some distance back between them, but it had its risks.

If a male should dive at the right place he could well collide with her in the thick vapour.

And if his reactions were fast enough he could well catch her.

Voracath

Voracath was not about to let Gereth's attack go unanswered. Even as he tried to take advantage of Calith's surprise and sudden dive he snapped his teeth at Gereth's face, fighting to take the lead back from the older bronze. Just a single strike before the brown folded his own wings and plummeted blindly after his prey. He roared into the thick mists. She would be his!

Bronze Orthoth

Orthoth still hung back yes, but was his hide marred by claws? No. Let the others take their frustrations out on each other. It wasn't his fight unless they made it his fight.

Inwardly, Orthoth was grateful for the gold's sudden dive. Maybe he was getting a little old to keep up with the smaller, younger, and more agile males but when it came to falling, the playing fields were a little more even. He tucked his wings and angled down into the thick clouds.

He hoped to gain on Calith with this move... that is if he could find her.

Blue Rievegeth

The reversal put him at a slight advantage, at least he didn't have to fly quite as far now. The blue pumped his wings vigorously with a cold calculating. Let the others squabble among themselves. Rievegeth noted detachedly that it was really only two that seemed intent on whaling on each other. The other two, a bronze and blue, were content to chase.

He was too far back to really come under attack by those in the lead. At least for now. That was something to keep in the back of his mind if he did get close enough to possibly catch the gold. Not that Calith was going to let that happen any time soon. He narrowed his eyes as she dove into the clouds. Cloud diving was nothing. He went into them after Thread after all. With a sense that the time was right, the blue folded his wings and dove for the clouds.

Blue Gyafrith

Gyafrith knew he was still trailing the other dragons, but with encouragement from his rider, he was not going to give up. He noticed that the queen was hurt and was a little surprised by that, why would anyone hurt her? When she dove, he watched where she went and made adjustments to dive after her. He was soon in the clouds, looking for the queen.

Gereth dove after Calith, forgetting Voracath and the other dragons. He dove, and there was only Calith: unfortunately, that meant he was completely oblivious to Voracath's attack until it happened. He snarled, bugling a challenge of his own.

Round 4 End

2nd – Voracath – 58 = 49 + 9
3rd – Rievegeth – 52 = 33 + 19

Calith could hear the roars even hidden in the clouds. Probably Gereth and Voracath. Before she had disappeared into the clouds Calith was certain she had seen that latecomer blue gaining on them. She wasn’t certain if that was fair. True she wanted a powerful male, but if the blue managed to best them with his intelligence then she couldn’t really punish him for it. Intelligent young were almost as good as strong young. Weren’t they? It was hard to know what was best for them with everything going on around her. If she were on the ground and not feeling the pressure to breed right now then she could think it through.

The large gold stayed in the clouds, listening carefully to any sound that might betray her pursuing males. She heard a flap of wings at one point and swerved to avoid it, no idea which of the males it had been. It hadn’t sounded very large, but she could be wrong. Driving herself forward, Calith used the cover to hide her so she could fly away from the gathering. She needed to gain back the distance she had lost. Especially now, the occasional twinge in her wings was beginning to betray to her that the energy she had taken in was beginning to run out.

Beating her wings Calith threw herself up out of the clouds, she swung her head around as she emerged. Taking note that none of the males were above, that was lucky. Calith stayed silent as she climbed up higher. The longer time she had alone up here the more distance she could put between her and her pursuers. When she reached what she deemed a high enough point, which was a considerable height, she looked down and roared to alert the males to her presence. She still didn’t stop climbing, but she didn’t want them getting too far behind.

Voracath

Voracath flew blindly, the beat of wings difficult to locate in the cloudbank. Was it Calith or was it one of his challengers? Still he pressed his speed until finally he heard her distinctive roar coming from above him. He turned, fighting for height even as he caught sight of Gereth in front of him.

Vorcath pumped his wings, racing to get within striking distance. As he drew close he raked his claws at the large bronze's backside.

Bronze Orthoth

The gold's roar, calling all the males back to her was too far away. Orthoth had chosen wrong in his direction! The bronze was dismayed to find himself at the back of the pack even behind the two blues who must have been struggling at this point.

If he was to have any shot now he would have to put his all into it. No holding back and waiting for an opportunity. He put that reserved energy to use and shot forward, his size and strength actually a benefit in climbing higher into the sky.

Blue Gyafrith

Gyafrith was still looking for the queen, when he thought he heard movement in the clouds. It could have been Calith or it could be one of the other males, he could not tell at this moment. He kept an even pace, since he knew it was best not to expand his energy, until he knew for sure where the gold one was. Soon he heard her roar from above and he began to climb out of the clouds once more. Once he got out of the covering of clouds, he looked around and when he found Calith, took off in pursuit of her again.

(+2)

Gereth rose, caring nothing for Voracath, nor the other bronze: and to his mind, the blues present had little claim. He was larger, and stronger! He flew--attempting to dodge the attack thrown at him by the brown, and failing. He bugled in protest, green ichor flying from his wounds. There was no time to consider that. No time. Calith was what mattered!
