"Caution where it's needed, and maybe a bolster to their confidence when it pays off." America made a small face, "More n'trainees probably need that, though." It was an issue that she saw more and more often, but had a sinking feeling it was a surface section of a larger and more deeply seated issue than she could truly measure. Maybe it wasn't even a simple issue, maybe it part and parcel with the very structure of the island...
You are progress and breathe new dreams into reality while tradition decays in your wake. You are bloody revolution that burns all without discrimination and scars a generation into new ideals.
America briefly closed her eyes and dismissed the seed of an idea before it had even fully formed. She had enough on her plate.
Preening slightly, America agreed, "Yeah, no problem! I know Konstantin's made a few maps as well with the specifics you'll be wanting, too. And we can probably alter things for you as well, 'cause I'm pretty sure Allan will be tickled to have that sort of training course available. Have you ever seen him do the Sun Run? Goes through like a hot train through a wall made of butter."

"We need to be setting up some study material or training courses on the enemy, too," Jordan suggested, watching America sharply to see what she thought of the idea. "As is, it's extracurricular, but hell, you know hunters, most of us do our jobs but there's a whole lot of people who do nothing but slack and -- uh -- goof off in their free time. Not talking about some kind of certification or anything, but an occasional discussion on what we're fighting and how to approach it wouldn't go amiss."
He managed a small grin. "I've seen Allan fight. The man's amazing. I think this proposal would be better pitched to Simon, though."

"Which enemy, though?" Her mouth turned a bit crooked at the question. Because there were the big huge, mindless monsters. And then the tiny ones that were effective in groups. And then there were the ones that were like actual people. The horsemen with their clans and the glimpses of culture, the folks living in the other world too. And then there were the big ones, the ones that could turn you into puppets in a game or freeze you with their presence or even change what you were. All that and not counting other hunters into the equation.
America considered it for a moment before going on, "Start with twitter. Whatever you do, that's the place to start throwing out lures. And like hmm...cook outs, small parties and the like. If you want to have a discussion, do it somewhere people actually want to be."
The girl winked, "Naw, you pitch to Allan first, but you give the details and papers to Simon. They're a good team like that." The last was said with a fondness that was less for the sun leadership and mostly for a stoic Russian.

Jordan's smile turned slightly wry, acknowledging the point. "The ones we're most likely to encounter in standard field missions," he replied. "Okay, that's a huge range to cover, yeah, but human military and police organizations are constantly having to deal with the development of new technology and techniques and training to counter them. Why should we hold ourselves to a lower standard? There's some of the less intelligent creature types that you see more frequently, and then there's broad types of the smarter ones that go rogue and come into our world to feed."
He sipped his coffee thoughtfully. "Having some kind of psychological preparation for the ones that can alter reality in big or small ways could be helpful, too. Nothing can really prepare you for that, not really, but having some kind of coping measure to fall back on while you're being messed with could help with recovery times afterward." He suppressed a shudder (bugs) and closed his eyes for a moment, thinking mazes and then flinching away from the sharp ache that came with that thought, redirecting, redirecting. Not everyone had practice in breaking cycles mentally. Maybe it could be taught.
He relaxed again at America's suggestion, laughing a little. "Yeah, you're right. Allan's got the enthusiasm, Simon's got the organization."

Drumming her fingers on the counter, America nodded, "I think learning how to react to unexpected s**t without freezing or freaking out is a big thing. Even if you don't have all the details, training to to deal with the unexpected in general goes a long ways, right? Probably that um...whatsit...Haunted House? Or whatever? I heard that's pretty random with all sorts of things trying to kill you, maybe start out with organized groups going into there. Maybe that's like, one of the first places a trainee should get shown after bonding? Helluva a lot nicer than dumping them into quicksand full of corpses and freaky hoodoo bugs with no leadership or direction."

"Better chance of encountering Fear creatures in a setting that may not necessitate fighting, too," Jordan nodded. "You can't assume it's safe in there, but sometimes you find the ones who want to talk, too. That can be useful." He leaned on the table, watching America for her reaction. "Getting used to the idea that the things we fight have minds and opinions can be a rough one. It's not easy to think that what's haunted us since childhood might not always be hostile, and people don't always draw the connection between their weapon talking to them and the creatures they used to be. Intellectual knowledge versus comprehension."

America shrugged, "I'll take your word on it. Before I came here I was gonna join the Navy, so..." The idea of the enemy being a person wasn't a terribly large issue to her, even before hunters like Caelius and Lawrence made it clear they were her enemies as much as anything in Spookville. Just because they were people didn't mean they mattered. Her mind turned to the horseman that had caught Taym, and the way fighting it differed so greatly from mindless beasties. "Though it'll be good if they understand that the people-sorts come with like, grudges and s**t just as much as we do. And they don't really die, right? Talk about making life long enemies."

Jordan nodded, thinking of the kitsune he kept running into; he couldn't even remember what had started the mutual grudge, but there was a lasting dislike there, although it had softened slightly after the artifact mission in which they'd all been thrown unexpectedly back into their Kingdom selves. The Blue Bishop had understood the Violet Queen's affection for and need to protect his King, and it had been an unwillingly conceded point of resonance and similarity. That was an extraordinary circumstance, though, and not one that would affect most grudges. The memory made his chest ache again, and he turned his thoughts away. How long would it take before everything stopped reminding him? "Grudges or debts," he added. "I wouldn't trust a horseman with anything, but some of the Halloween types have a sense of honor and can be dealt with. I don't think it's common knowledge, but from time to time we work with the Boogeymen. Their equivalent of the cops."

America smiled for a moment, and the thought in her mind was for other, bloodier plans for the enemy closer to home. Grudges and debts, indeed. And then she was perking up with obvious curiosity. "I've heard of them, through the literature for the golem missions. Avoid if possible and stay cool. but I didn't know we actually worked with them, too."

Jordan finished the last of his coffee and set the cup down. "I don't know much about it," he said, "but I've heard bits and pieces about extended golem missions, and I once had a mission go spectacularly south, and a pair of Boogeys hauled our asses out of the fire -- literal fire, may I add -- and they sure seemed to be used to working with hunters. Probably something that Death knows a hell of a lot more about than Sun, also probably some degree of classified."
