For someone who had already found a happy ending, Mimsy sure did sound like she was about as lost with the concept of love as Maebe was. She just listened, trying to negotiate whether she wanted to allow Cami to be this role that was being discussed. Maebe did not think she lacked a heart, or anything weird like that. She just felt like her heart had turned into useless, unfeeling stone years ago. Stone that Cami and Otto had been working diligently at cracking, but she still wasn't sure there was anything under the stone left to free. She let them try, anyway. Maebe stared at her phone as Mimsy continued to frantically lecture her on the dos and don'ts of loving Cami. She trusted Cami implicitly - which was a laughable concept, and shouldn't have been possible, but it just was without any effort. But she knew she was in danger of doing exactly the kind of thing Mimsy warned her about, which was not letting Cami love her as much as she was willing. Maebe stared at her phone, her hands on the keys, as if she wanted to write something. She stared, and stared. And then, moments later, she just nodded. She didn't look up, and she had nothing to say. She just nodded, accepting the terms Mimsy laid down upon her for the chance to have someone take the place of her dead heart.

After all that Mimsy said to her, all of the instructions and demands, she expected to have some kind of opposition. If not opposition, she expected some kind of question in response, or the sarcasm that was typical from the woman in front of her, or perhaps just some kind of blow to her character that made use of the information that she had just poured out onto her. That didn't happen. None of that happened. They just sat in silence, Maebe staring at her phone, Mimsy staring at Maebe. Instead of an answer that would break that silence, there was only a nod. Anticipating more from her, she waited. When more than a minute passed in silence, she slowly returned the gesture of the nod. "All right." She shifted in the chair, debating any remnants of her options. "I wish you luck, then. It will not always be easy, but I think that you will find that it is worth it. She is worth it."

Maebe smiled at her phone, and thought about how much Cami really was worth it. She also considered how much Mimsy loved her sister, and how weird it was that the psychopathic b***h suddenly had a soft spot. She didn't know whether to be excited to know it, or uncomfortable. She didn't want to start thinking Mimsy was human, or anything. To make matters worse on that front, a large shadow cast over the bed as the nurse on call finally decided to make an appearance. Maebe looked up, and up, at the man checking her IV drip to make sure the bags did not need changing. He put a hand on Mimsy's shoulder, which was weird, and then he leaned in to turn off the nurse call light that had been blinking the entire time Maebe spammed the button. "You know, those things break real easy." He warned her, with a critical eye. "We ain't your personal servants, I had three guys come in five minutes ago with a half severed arm and two slashed faces. You don't look like you're dying, so maybe have some patience." He bent in, and kissed Mimsy on the cheek (what the hell was even-) before bumping his head against her. "Who's your friend, baby?" Robert.Maebe wondered if vomitting with a wired jaw hurt, because she was feeling a massive wave of nausea.

Why was she smiling? Mimsy tilted her head, attempting to determine whether it was genuine or something more unpleasant. It was nearly impossible to tell, considering how none of this had gone as planned, enforcing the fact that she had not yet gained enough information about Maebe to make her predictable in entirety. Then something made her smile too, for reasons that were extremely predictable. Just the sight of him had been enough to earn the little grin, but the way that he spoke so sternly to Maebe, critical of the thoughtless things that she had done, encouraged her to smile even wider. "Hello," she purred, closing her eyes as her cheek pressed against his. The hand that had been on a little vial of poison only minutes ago reached up to gently rest her fingertips against his jaw, her thumb passing idly back and forth over his skin. "This is Miss Maebe Grace Bertrand. Miss Bertrand, I would like to introduce you to my husband, Robert Morris. He has taught me to love, as you hope to accomplish." She opened one eye, which was staring directly towards the aforementioned woman. "She is in love with my sister. It is so fortunate that you are here to ensure that she receives proper care. I would trust no one else with the woman that my sister loves."

Maebe Grace Bertrand. The only time Robert had ever heard that woman's name was when Mimsy told her about it. That meant that Maebe Grace Bertrand was on Santa's naughty list, as far as he was concerned. His entire body went rigid when he heard the name, and he stood up straight, moving to check her clipboard. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Bertrand." Robert said, his voice sounding remarkably professional and businesslike. "Good look with that love thing. I'm sure it'll work out better for you this time." And that was the moment Maebe realized Robert knew exactly who she was, minus the whole weird bonding moment they'd had a few moments ago. She sunk down a few inches into her gurney as he continued to check her vitals. He closed the clipboard, and moved around to the other side of the gurney to inspect her jaw and skin. His touches were light, and careful. He wasn't trying to hurt her, he was genuinely checking up on her. "Looks like you're healing well. Don't push it though. You should get more rest, you look like you've been awake reading this whole time." He shined a light in her eyes, and then turned it off just as quickly. "You should let her sleep." Robert's tone transformed the moment he was talking to Mimsy, and his expression blossomed into something akin to absolute whimsical joy. "Keeping my patients up, I see what you're doin'." He walked around the gurney and checked the machines again. "Come on, let's go home. My shift's over." He turned back to Maebe, and nodded quietly. "Remember what I said about that button. And get some sleep, you're gonna need it." Because he'd just turned her morphine dial down from 10, to 3. His fingers intertwined with Mimsy's, tugging. "Say goodnight to your little friend now."

'I'm sure it'll work out better for you this time.'Mimsy's shoulders tensed as she shuddered with delight at his choice of words. The change in his tone and the dispassionate way that he addressed her mingled into one of the most pleasant sounds that she had ever heard, and the fact that it came from her husband made it all the better. While he touched the broken woman, she watched with bated breath, shifting once again with a different discomfort. She wanted him to push harder. She wanted him to crush her jaw until it was irreparable. That would make this easier for her, wouldn't it? Love for someone should be felt regardless of physical forms, correct? "Yes. You have caught me, and I must confess that I have been terribly naughty." Her eyes followed him as he moved to check on the machines, and she hid a little smile when she saw what he was doing. There was no protest when he encouraged her to come home with him. She rose from the chair to wrap both arms around his, tactically leaving her ring-covered finger visible as she offered Maebe an empty smile. "Good night, Miss Bertrand." After wiggling her fingers with little effort, she made a show of hugging close to Robert's arm as she took a deep breath and released it in an exorbitantly happy sigh. The smile that followed was genuine, but not for her; she was no longer even looking at her, nor did she intend to again, despite so graciously sparing a few more words. "And good luck."

Maebe had made enemies of the Addams family.
She slowly opened one of her magazines, covered her entire face with it, and tried to make believe it was all a bad dream.
