If Arorangi thought that Lydia was one of the more interesting people he had met, then she certainly thought that he was absolutely the most interesting that she had ever met. At least, that's how she felt at the current moment, though it was a fact that would inevitably change come the next person that she met and latched on to. Still, there was something...more intriguing about Aro then the typical inhabitant on Deus, and not just because he was incredibly muscular and handsome and oh wow that smile.....Lydia was forced to tear her dreamy eyed gaze away from him for what felt like the hundredth time in the span of five minutes when he spoke of helping her with digging a hole, a shrill giggle rising in her throat that she could not hope to contain as it came bursting free, her hand coming up to cover her mouth, which, of course, left her few packages free to tumble to the ground yet again. Wiping tears from her eyes, which only resulted in her fingers managing to smudge the inside of her glasses, which she then needed to take off and clean without missing a beat, she tilted her head to the side slightly as if thinking about something. "THE BEACH!" She finally burst out, throwing her hands up in the air (and sending her glasses spinning out onto the training field....). "Easy to dig and...oh there are such beautiful tentacles that stretch up towards the sun on the horizon!" It was hard to tell at that moment if she was even capable of keeping herself on track for more then a minute straight, as now it seemed almost as if she had given up completely on any chance at baiting a sasquatch into a trap. Reaching out with two hands, she grasped one of Aro's massive arms, wrapping her fingers around a wonderfully sculpted bicep, before pulling against him gently, and rising up on her tip toes with wide eyes. "And there's garbage there." For some reason that addition seemed like it was really important information to give, as if it was highly significant in some way. kuroopu r u sure he is up to being her friend. r u sure

Arorangi made a grab for Lydia's glasses as they went flying, but his fingers only grazed them before they went spinning onto the field, landing with a little plunk on the grass. He gave them a look, and then gave Lydia a look that clearly indicated he was concerned for the safety of her glasses and for the fact that she now probably had blurry vision and couldn't see very well. But since she was yelling out something he liked, he decided it was mostly okay.
"THE BEACH!" Arorangi yelled just as enthusiastically as she had, and practically bounced up and down with her, Lydia's hands wrapping around one of his arms to tug him down towards her level. He turned towards her, eyebrows raised, his dreads falling all over the place.
"Garbage?" he said curiously, "What do we need garbage for, aroha?"
He stepped away from her, towards where she'd flung her glasses, and reached down, carefully picking them back up again. Arorangi held them gingerly, as though if he made any sudden movements, they might break. He lifted the hem of his shirt (revealing a very flat, muscular stomach beneath it), wiping the lenses carefully clean before he held them out to Lydia again.
"Then we must go to the beach!" he said brightly.

There would be no seeing of Arorangi's looks as she was a) too wrapped up in her own excitement to pay any looks he sent her way any mind and b) now far too blind to notice them anyways. When he shouted out an echo to her own yelled words she grinned broadly and bounced on her heels a few times while giggling. Had she just found her soul mate and future everything? At that precise moment, if somebody had asked her, she would have blurted out a loud and ecstatic YES!!! Even unable to see him properly, there was a sense of giddiness to be had just being in his presence that was impossible for her to ignore. He was handsome and cheerful and gorgeous and tanned and beautiful and optimistic and did she mention handsome?Though, Lydia was a flighty sort, quick to latch on to anybody who would pay her favorable attention, while also at least knowing not to expect more then that. While she herself was quite loud and expressive, she'd lived a mostly quiet and, unfortunately, empty life when it came to relationships. To make a friend with an exceptional man was an achievement upon itself. To have it go any further then that? Laughable. She had accepted long ago that she just wasn't what most people were looking for, and that was okay. She'd mostly been far too busy with her work anyways. With fingers curled over the hard curve of a bicep, however, she was hard pressed not to appreciate yet more of the young man that chose to accompany her today. At his question, she blinked a couple of times, and then laughed. "Well, this particular Sasquatch might be found rummaging around int he trash if we're lucky, of course! But if not I am certain we can find other ways to entertain ourselves." Like hole digging and tentacle watching, and if they were feeling particularly adventurous, maybe even skinny dipping!Wait, no Lydia! Back up!She had to give herself a mental shake at the vivid imagery she had just imagined, fingers letting go of beautifully toned muscle as Aro took some steps away from her, searching for the pair of glasses that she seemed to have completely forgotten about. It was either a shame or a blessing that she was left unable to properly see anything more then a foot or two in front of her face, as Arorangi cleaned her glasses. In fact, the best she could do was squint in his direction and try to figure out just what the heck he was doing over there? But then he held her glasses back towards her, and she realized what he had been doing. "OH! Thank you!" She reached out to pluck them from his grasp, placing them back on her face with a broad smile. "And yes. TO THE BEACH!" She shouted, bending down to gather up the very few items she had once again dropped, before leading him to their hopefully final destination.

It was really too bad that Lydia had missed out seeing Arorangi's very muscular stomach, but it was probably not the last time that she would get the chance, seeing as how physical Arorangi liked to be and how much time he spent outdoors doing sports or training or running or swimming (at least, in his previous life, he had yet to try the swimming thing on the island yet...). Regardless of this fact, Arorangi was terribly pleased to be able to help Lydia out in this quest of hers, even if to others it seemed ridiculous, even outlandish, because what was the point of living life if you didn't enjoy it?
And Arorangi was determined to enjoy it and everything else.
"You are welcome," he said with relish, as Lydia took back her glasses, finally restoring her vision. He beamed brightly at her, ever amused by her energetic, enthusiastic reactions, and bent to grab the rest of the supplies, loading them into his arms and grinning at her.
"The beach is the best place, in my opinion!" he said, with a firm nod as he jogged along beside her towards their destination. "Everyone should be able to enjoy the beach, it is the most relaxing spot! The waves are very reassuring, and the ocean is so powerful and friendly! It is something to be enjoyed, not feared!"

If Lydia had known that a very muscular stomach had been flashed and she had missed it, she likely would have lamented the fact long and loud, as it was, however, she was oblivious to the wonder that she had not been able to make out from behind blurred eyes. However, with glasses back on, she could quite easily instead admire other parts of Arorangi's body that flexed delightfully at every step they took, all while wondering to herself if falling behind just a little bit would make it far too obvious what part of him she was watching..... Cheeks flushing again, her head snapped back up. She was meant to be leading the way, after all! taking at least two steps for his every one in order to keep slightly ahead of the other man, she jabbered away at him while they walked along, informing him of the fact that not only did the island house what could only be a Sasquatch, but men who were most assuredly descendants of giants as well. A short time later, they stood at the edge of an expanse of beach that stretched out in front of them until the sand met the rolling waves of water. "Have you had a chance to spend time on the beach here yet, Arorangi? It is one of my most favorite places, though I would also love to spend some time in the jungle." Alas, however, she had been quite explicitly warned against doing such, or at least, against doing so on her own. kicking off her unlaced boots, which sailed off in two completely different directions only to land in the sand, Lydia then sat down, setting down the chips and beer, to peel off her socks, wiggling toes with teal and pink painted nails. Standing back up, she began to make her way out into the sand, relishing the feel of it against her bare feet, and the way it came up between her toes.

The beach was just as he had remembered it; white sand stretched out from the thick, heavy black rocks out into a wide, sparkling blue ocean complete with a few demonic creatures lurking beneath the surface (though Arorangi had yet to actually confirm this first hand). Lydia had led them right up to the water, and he stared happily down at it with an expression of pure delight and relaxation.
"I have been here once before!" he said brightly, looking sideways at her and beaming. "I was told this was an island, so of course I had to look for the beach! I grew up around the ocean, it would be a shame to have left it behind so quickly after coming here. Granted, I have been in the States for the past few years, so I have not had the pleasure of being near a beach, but I am near one now and this is a good thing, aroha."
Lydia had already kicked off her shoes, and Arorangi laughed, a deep booming sound, following suit with his own shoes. They didn't fly quite as far as hers did, but his sandals were somewhere else on the sand than his feet, and he squished his toes into it, relishing the familiar sensation.
"It is lovely here," said Arorangi with a smile, and he shoved his hands into the pockets of his shorts, bobbing along beside Lydia. "I have always felt the most comfortable at the beach than anywhere else."

Lydia was quite pleased to hear that being on the beach, so near the ocean waves, made Arorangi happy. Spinning in the sand as though dancing, her arms raised above her head, she sent small white granules whipping in every direction around her feet, before she flopped down on her back with a giggle, never minding for one second that the pale sand would get in her curly mess of hair or inside her clothing. "Oh?" He had moved to the states? She sat up from where she had flopped, adjusting her glasses with a smile. "Where were you living?" She had actually wanted to ask why he had moved, but thought that if she did it might be considered prying, and while she was the curious sort that liked to know everything about everyone around her, she had learned over the years that sometimes there were some things that you just shouldn't ask a person until you became more familiar with them. flopping down again with a small thud and a spray of sand, Lydia began moving her arms up and down while doing the same with her legs, attempting to make a sand angel like one might have done in the snow. "I grew up near the mountains, so I'm more accustomed to snow then I am sand." Though her travels had certainly taken her to many a tropical location. Squinting up at him from behind her glasses, Lydia gave him a large grin, and stopped what she was doing just long enough to pat the ground next to her, as an invitation for him to join her.

This was certainly a great first meeting with someone, Arorangi decided. A fun, quirky person, a beautiful beach, an adventure to find an unknown creature; separate, they were entertaining, but all rolled into one, and it was turning out to be a very good day indeed.
"I went from New Zealand to Nebraska," said Arorangi with a smile down at Lydia, who was flopping around in the sand endearingly. "A big change, I know, but my dad died and I was left alone and I needed to go and work for myself, to make a living. I could not do that in Auckland, so I went and stayed with a friend of my dad's in the states, in his home in Nebraska. He got me a job at a university, working as a custodian. Not the most exciting job," he added, with a grin, "but a good job that paid well."
She was waggling her arms back and forth now, looking like she was trying to make something. Arorangi let out a laugh and thudded down into the sand beside her, shaking his head in amusement so that his dreads fell about his shoulders. "I have not seen much snow," he admitted, and then added brightly, "But I would like to, someday! Where are you from, aroha?"

"Nebraska." She repeated, breathy, her eyes widening behind their lenses, magnified and appearing larger then they really were. Her arms and legs had stopped for a moment as she continued to stare up at him. "I have been there as well! Research, of course. There have been reported sightings of Bigfoot, as well as a photographic evidence of what very well could be a Shunka Warak'in!" She seemed very excited, all of a sudden, her features lighting up brighter then ever, and as Arorangi sat down next to her, she turned onto her side, propping her head up in a hand while her elbow dug into the sand. "I'm from Montana. I do miss the mountains, and the snow." She said, her free hand reaching over, an index finger held out as she doodled random shapes into the sand. "I miss my research....and my family." Her smile, for once, actually slipped away at that, and she suddenly flopped over again onto her back, a long sigh blown out as her bottom lip puffed out a bit, the air stirring the bangs that were falling in front of her eyes. Her gaze rolled towards him, a small frown creasing her features. "I am sorry to hear about your dad." She reached over, awkwardly patting at his leg before letting her hand slip away. In a way, however, she envied him. Her own family assuredly believed that she had died, by now, and knowing that, she couldn't help but feel very sad, despite the over enthusiastic way she seemed to approach everything. Perhaps if they had already been dead, she wouldn't be so sad. She wouldn't have left anybody behind......... No, this was not a subject she wished to dwell on! Giving her head a small shake, she forced another smile, and pushed herself to her elbows. "How about one of those beers? Do you drink?" She didn't, or at least, not very often, but she could stand to try one now in the name of being sociable. kuroopu srry double quote forgot to have her say where she was from so I added it in asdjgslgjas

Arorangi had already determined that Lydia was somewhat eccentric, in many ways; but at the same time, he found that the more eccentric she was, the more entertained he was by her. It was endearing, rather than off putting (eccentric people were much more interesting than dull ones, after all), and she was certainly making life on the island much more bearable with these adventures.
"I have not seen Bigfoot yet!" said Arorangi with a tap of his finger against his chin. "I have heard that have been sightings, but every time I have gone to look, I have not seen anything! I should like to, but alas, there has been nothing but dead ends - we should go look sometime!" he added abruptly, with a decisive nod of his head. "We should go back and see if we can find Bigfoot, now that we know that monsters are real and we are not just imagining it!"
He smiled broadly at her, eyes alight with amusement - but they dimmed somewhat at the saddened look on her face, and Arorangi's expression softened. "It is hard," he said, and reached out a hand to pat Lydia gently on the top of her blue-haired head even as she was patting his own leg. "I miss my family as well. It is hard to be away from them, especially since now we are presumed...well," he trailed off, not wanting to upset her more.
Arorangi cast a glance at the beer and smiled. "I do drink socially," he said, and then added jovially, "If we are to be without our family, then we will just have to make our own families here on the island! We cannot spend the entire time alone, we must make friends and create our own homes to keep us happy while we are here!"
He reached for one of the beers and passed one to Lydia first before taking one for himself.
"We can drink and we can be friends!" he said cheerfully.

Lydia's eyes seemed to brighten at the offer to go and look for Bigfoot together. In fact, if any guy was in any way trying to win her heart (unlikely, she thought), that would be the way to do it. She sat up abruptly, sand trailing down from her clothing and hair, her hand pressing down on his leg. "Yes! Oh yes that would make me very happy! Do you think we could? Oh, but would that take us too close to your home?" Her excitement seemed to die out, a small frown furrowing her brow instead as she took that into consideration. "We have to be careful, because..." Nobody was supposed to know that they were still alive, and Arorangi especially with his nationality and tattoos might be easily distinguishable in a place like Nebraska. "My family thinks that I died at WonderPark. Everyone died at WonderPark. No survivors." Her gaze seemed to go distant for a moment. "I mean, I nearly died. Several times, really." Her eyes now seemed to look a bit more than just distant, as they now appeared more on the misty side. "I saw a lot of people die." Her hand slid off of his leg to find it's way to her other, both of them now fiddling in her lap. "I guess I'm just lucky that I ended up here instead." She smiled down at her hands. "Right?" She lifted her gaze, which seemed to go from sad back to happy in an instant, as if a switch had been flicked off and back on again. "I mean, if I wasn't here, than I would have never met you!" Excitement was leaking back into her voice. "And then I would never get to share a beer with you!" She laughed, fingers closing around the can, lifting to crack it open. Back to smiling broadly, she nodded her head. "Friends, yes! I would like that very much!" She held up her can towards him. "Cheers?"

There was sand everywhere, but Arorangi had grown up practically living at the beach, and didn't find it uncomfortable at all. In fact, if anything, he felt it both familiar and reassuring in a place where he hadn't quite found his place yet, and Lydia's personality was an easy one to fall in line with, easy to get along with.
"I am sure we could work something out," he told her with a smile. "It might take a bit of working, but if it means we are to catch Bigfoot, then I say we should go!"
Arorangi's expression softened a little, however, and he reached out and placed a large hand on Lydia's thin shoulder, giving it a small squeeze. "It must have been very hard," he said softly, leaning to look at her. "I am very sorry that you had to go through such a thing, aroha."
He would have given her the handkerchief that he often carried around with him, but since Arorangi had last given it to Oliver, he wasn't quite sure where it was anymore. But it seemed this was one of those moments where it was best to just move on and not focus on the fact that she had been sad, but instead push forward to the moment where Lydia was smiling and taking the beer from his outstretched hand.
Arorangi grinned. "You are here, and we have met, and you are alive and we are friends!" he said, and stretched out his can, tapping it against Lydia's. "To new and old friendships," he said grandly. "And to beaches, because they are a great place to sit with said friends."
He pulled the tab and lifted the can, taking a long swig.
"I am glad you are here," Arorangi said, once he'd swallowed. "I am glad to have met you!"

Yes, much better to move on. Lydia had never really given herself much time to dwell on what had happened at Wonderpark, Minutes, at best, but usually much less. She didn't want to think about it. She didn't want to remember how Algie had suffocated beneath a spider web that had burned painfully against flesh. She didn't want to recall the moment when Kiera had been snatched up by tentacles and drug down into water, never to be seen again, presumably drowned or, more hopefully, crushed to death in a swift and mostly painless manner. There had been others, too. Other names. Some she could still remember. Some she could still put faces to. Others...no. She hadn't had a chance to know them. And now they were all dead, save for a handful that had ended up here. How had she even been a part of that select group? She still couldn't fathom how she had managed to survive. And nor would she think about it now, because instead, she was going to celebrate just being alive, sitting on a beautiful beach with (let's face it) a beautiful man, sharing a beer, discussing friendship despite only having just met. Her can clunked against his, with enough force that she could hear it begin to fizz. With a startled sound and a laugh, she took a long drink, grimacing slightly at the taste and nearly spitting it out, but instead wiping the back of her hand across her mouth, swallowing, and laughing some more. And then she looked up at him, too large hazel eyes sparkling from behind her glasses, a smile plastered across a face that had broken out with freckles the practically the moment she had gotten some sun on her cheeks. She looked at him, took in his smile, the cut of his jaw, his darkly tanned skin. and his gorgeous eyes, and her heart skipped a beat. Her cheeks began to flush again, and she let her gaze drop once more, another nervous giggle that was punctuated by a snort barely hidden beneath a raised hand escaping her. Why were there so many gorgeous men on this island? It was somehow both a dream come true and a horrible situation to be in. "I..." She started, her voice choking on the word before she cleared her throat. "I am so very glad to have met you, too!" He reminded her of somebody she had met. Somebody who she couldn't think about now, but who had also been so very kind to her, and spoken with her and had seemed genuinely interested in what she had to say. She missed that person, sometimes, despite having barely gotten to know him. But she had a chance now to get to know Arorangi, now, and that is exactly what she wanted to do. "So, tell me more about yourself?" Something. Anything. She wanted to know it all.

He didn't want Lydia to have to think about the tragedies of her past; they had happened, of course, and there was no ignoring that or getting rid of that. But right now was neither the time, nor the place to be wallowing in sadness and misery when there was a life to be lived. There was a time for grieving, and this was not it. This was a moment when two new friends who shared several common interests were going to sit on a beautiful beach, surrounded by glittering dark water, drinking beer and relaxing. This was a moment of calm and fun and laughter, not tears and hard memories.
Maybe one day, Arorangi thought, as he turned his head to give Lydia an encouraging smile. Maybe one day he would be the sort of person that she would come to when she wanted to talk, or when she wanted to share news, or anything at all. He thought he might not mind having such a friend; she was, after all, quirky and spunky and peculiar, all of which made for a very interesting person, much more interesting than many of the others Arorangi had met so far.
Besides, he was comfortable here, and so he had to make sure she was as well. Arorangi took another swallow of beer and smiled at Lydia, leaning back so that he was resting on one thick arm in the sand, absently tapping his beer can against his leg.
"I like vegetables more than I like meat!" he said, after a moment, and a laugh escaped him. "I have always found it strange, but there you go. I like taro, but I also enjoy carrots very much."
Arorangi swirled the contents of his can around. "And what about you, aroha? Tell me something about yourself as well!"

It occurred to Lydia that she had yet to really have a drink of her beer, and she finally lifted it to her lips, taking just a small sip at first, but not yet lowering it as she got used to the taste, letting it sit in her mouth before swallowing and taking a much longer sip the second time. It burned on the way down her throat, and she nearly choked on the fizzy, bitter, carbonated beverage that she was not at all used to as it went down, finally lowering the can to let out a short gasp, a hand going to her chest as tears formed in the corners of her now stinging eyes. This was one reason why Lydia didn't drink very often. The other would likely begin to hit somewhere around three quarters of a consumed can. With that little chore dealt with, and with a swipe at the corners of her eyes with the sleeve of her sweater, Lydia gave Arorangi her full attention, smiling with pure delight at the tidbit of information he graced her with. "I would never have guessed!" She exclaimed, filing away the knowledge to write down in her notebook later. "Cooked or raw?" She asked next, because that seemed rather important to her, her eyes wide with curiosity and her question coming out quiet and breathy. Oh, but he had asked her to tell him something as well! "Oh! Well I ah...um..." She lowered her gaze to the top of the beer can, frowning to herself, raising it for another small sip. Had she told him she was a cryptozoologist yet? That actually seemed kind of obvious at this point, even if she hadn't. Weirdly, while Lydia could find so much, even the most mundane characteristic of pretty much every human being she ever met utterly fascinating, when faced with a question requiring to her put forward something interesting about herself, there was nothing that she could think of that seemed up to standard. She was, or at least she felt she was, utterly boring. "I have ten pairs of glasses, all in different colors and styles, not because I am fashionable." That much should be obvious.... "But because I am always losing them." She grinned, "And because I can never decide which one I like best when I go to the store to buy a new pair, so I just buy them all!" She let out a long giggle at that before continuing. "I've actually broken or lost over fifty pairs!" She said this with some amount of pride and excitement in her tone.
