"Now be careful there, little brother," Mal called to the overly excited Zo. "Didn't I see you setting up a few new traps the other day?" If there was one thing Zo loved more than treasure it was guarding his hoard. And that little fish had some crazy ideas for what passed as protection for his shinies.

"It's fine!" Zo chirped. "I totally disarmed the traps. This is the safe paaaagyhack!" he helped as a lasso made of seaweed caught his tail and yanked him down a shallow crevice. He scrambled to cling to his shiny. Oops... he must have forgotten one.

Mal groaned internally (and maybe a little out loud too) as he patiently swam forward and down to investigate his little brother's latest contraption. "Well this certainly is a new one," Mal muttered examining the snare. "Real slick too, the seaweed's a good choice, blended in with the terrain perfectly, you'd never see it coming." He glanced over at he still slightly rattle brother and commented, "Well, actually you were right on top of it and you still didn't see it. Remember when I told you to come up with some markers for these things? Something secret that only you knew about. You really should think about taking care of that little bother," he added as an after thought. "And when you do, please let me know what it is..." He gnawed gingerly on a length of the snare tethering his brother to the base of the shallow ocean crack. "I think I might be more than a little annoyed if I get caught up in one of your traps...again..."
He paused in the middle of chewing the seaweed rope when something caught it eye deep in the crack. Something....shiny. "Just wait right here for a moment," he told Zo quickly as he cautiously swam deeper into the crease to investigate. At first blush it was just a small spot that almost seemed to shimmer in the faint rays of light that managed to break down this deep in the ocean. But as Mal drew nearer, he saw the potential for much more. He nudged at the spot and was pleased to hear a familiar metallic 'clink' (plus he was pretty sure he heard the sound of his brother spinning and flailing wildly in the water - this was treasure they were dealing with, after all).

"Wait?" Zo squaked when his brother wandered off. He squirmed and wiggled, trying to free himself and only served to tangle himself even further in the rather clever trap. He admitted, to himself, that Mal was right. He really needed to figure out some subtle way of marking these things. He clearly couldn't trust his own memory on where they all were. And... a secret way to get out of these things in case he got caught in one without his trusty brother nearby to get him out of it.
Then all those thoughts flew out his head when he realized his brother was studying something shiny. "Wait... what's that? What'd you find?" he asked, eagerly.

"If I tell you," Mal began in measured terms as he swam back to attempt to free his sibling. "You have to promise you won't freak out. Promise?" he asked and awaited the response. It honestly didn't matter much, the moment Zo heard word that there was some shiny treasure down thisaway he would be all in a tizzy trying to get at it. Such was he brother's ways.

"I promise," Zo said, a bit too quickly, his curiosity getting the better of him. He was alternating between imaging great hordes of treasure and sharp sharky teeth. Zo had an... unusual imagination.

"Okay," Mal said real slow like as he worked to get his brother loose from the trap. Once he had worked the sea weed rope loose enough that Zo should have been able to slip free of it with little trouble he finally continued quietly, "I think I might have found us some sunken treasure. Whatever it was, it 'clinked' when it bumped together..."

"Treasure?!" Zo squawked as he squirmed free. He remembered at the last second to try and not freak out. He managed, barely, to keep his voice down, but it was a close thing. Still, he couldn't keep himself still at the idea of sunken treasure. This was what he lived for!

"Slow, Zo," Mal warned again and indicated in the direction of the gold coins. At least that's what they sounded like. Of course he'd have to defer to Zo's evaluation, his brother knew more about treasure than anyone or anything else.

Zo nodded a bit, suddenly all business and seriousness as he creeped forward cautiously toward the shiny that his brother had found. He peered closely at the glint in the sand. When nothing jumped out to bite him, he zipped back to his brother and started breaking apart the trap and winding the seaweed together again.

"You'll see," Zo answered. He paused when he had a bundle of seaweed waving gently in the current. "Hand me that long stick thing over there," he said, nodding toward a long branch that had gotten half buried in the ocean floor.

"Since when do we need a stick to round up treasure?" Mal asked while in the process of digging up the stick and nudging it loose with his tail.

"Since we don't know if it's a trap or not," Zo said with a roll of his eyes. Really, his brother should have already figured that much out.
