Camelot nodded his head.
He had experienced that a few times. The whole finding out he was wrong about something he thought he knew thing. He had experienced that more than enough to learn that nothing came at face value, and assuming was just never the safe option. That was why Camelot tried to keep his mind open to all options, particularly when bad things happened. It was all too easy to react with gut instinct, but most of the time he found that was not the best choice.
Drawn from his musing when she spoke again, smiling at bit as she explained how Exidor treated her. He had the same kind of habits, though he tried not to be mean when he babied the senshi and knights he worked with. For him, it was more because he was a very protective and paternal sort, not that he was trying to be condescending.
Moving to help carry the books, taking part of the pile so she was only left with a couple, he shook his head and laughed a bit.
"I don't know. Experience, I suppose. And a lot of time to muse on it. They can see our mistakes more clearly than we can, but I suppose they also cannot quite understand the circumstances we are acting from when they disapprove. It's a give and take, I think, to really get something valuable out of it. But being able to contact the past, to learn from what happened and where we, and our magic, comes from, is a very invaluable opportunity. Even if it can be a little annoying. Those who can speak to ghosts and ancestors are lucky."

The mention of experience made Aquarius snort, half in amusement, half in disbelief. "Experience at what? Dying? I've got my own experience with that, thanks." She could still see it, feel it happening, every time she let her guard down. The strap of the bag chafed her hand, burning her skin, just like before-
Her head began to swim, and she dropped the books she was carrying, stumbling against one of the bookshelves. The jolt was enough to snap her out of her memories, and she looked around, eyes wide, trying to remember where she was.
Library. Not hers, but someone else's. Big strong knight guy. And Exidor, looking at her with concern.
"Lucky," she repeated blankly, remembering what they had been talking about. "Do you feel lucky, then, to be what you are, see what you've seen? Because I don't even remember the last time I felt that way. Nothing outweighs the whole 'destined to fight and die for a cause you barely understand' thing. It's important, sure, but lucky?" She shook her head, totally unconvinced, and depressed on top of that.

Camelot clicked his tongue behind his teeth, but did not blame her for her skepticism. It was harder to understand something when it seemed difficult or straining, and he did not doubt that having a ghost at all times was probably a burden. Especially a rude ghost. So it only followed that she was upset about the whole thing.
When she swooned he moved to catch her, dropping the books he was holding on instinct. He was nothing if not a white knight, and if he saw someone about to pass out he had to do everything in his power to make sure they did not hurt themselves. Being super powered helped, of course, so he was at her side in a heartbeat, his hand on her arm to support her as she leaned on the bookshelf.
"Maybe you should get some rest," he said gently, worrying that his questions had pushed her too far.
He could answer her questions, but he did not want to push her even more. He knew that it was a lot to take in, and sometimes the things they were asked to do really were unfair and impossible. He had only meant being able to understand their station and their past more was lucky, considering they could not change what they were. Explaining, though, was not as important as her safety.
"Can I help you carry these books somewhere? You're free to take them, I don't think they've been looked at for some time. I'll take them out of the system another time."

He didn't answer. Because he didn't want to? That meant that she was right after all, when she really didn't want to be. It would have been almost tolerable if her experiences had been abnormally terrible, but if they were par for the course, what did that mean for Laney, or Dana? Would they have to go through hell in the name of some amorphous cause?
It felt odd, being touched by someone else after so many days spent in solitude. Exidor couldn't actually touch her, and it always weirded her out when he tried. Aquarius held onto the knight's arm a few seconds longer than necessary, comforted by the presence of another human being, before realizing what a terrible idea it was and pulling away. This guy was clearly important, and if anything happened to him because he'd come into contact with her, there was no way she could make up for it.
"I should go," she murmured, haphazardly piling books into her bag, then taking some out. She had to be selective; if she took everything, she wouldn't be able to carry it, much less the food she'd come back for. "I'm sorry, I know I've made a mess, and you've been really great, but I just- I shouldn't be here. I don't belong here anymore." Not that she belonged in space either, but it was the less awful option open to her.
The duffel zipped easily, her chosen books taking up less than half the space inside. "I'll bring them back, really, but I should go. I'm sorry. And thanks. Where-?" She was disoriented now, and couldn't remember the way they had come in just minutes before.

"I want to make sure you're okay," Camelot said gently, not wanting he to run off into the night and abandon him because she was upset, or trying to hide, or whatever it was that had shaken her. He was not there to argue with her, or cause her strain, and wanted only to help.
Sometimes that was an unreachable ideal, but he always tried.
"You are welcome here, whether you think you belong or not," he said, holding on to he so she did not escape him too quickly. He looked at her very seriously for a long moment, green eyes glistening with honesty and warmth. "I hope you come back here soon, as well. I'll always be here, one way or another, if you need me."
He was a knight, and it was his duty to serve. Anyone in need, or anyone who had a reason to use him.
"The exit is back that way, up those stairs, or I can open one of the emergency exits for you, without setting off the alarm. Are you sure you don't need help?"

Aquarius snorted again; she couldn't help it. No matter whose definition she used, she couldn't possibly be considered 'okay.' And if she didn't get going, he wouldn't be okay either. Nobody would be. It wasn't a matter of whether she was welcome or not, whether she needed help or not, because she was still toxic. How had she let herself forget that for this long?
Saying she was fine would be a lie, and he deserved better than that after all the help he'd been. But she couldn't just leave without saying anything. "I'm sorry, really sorry- I'll bring them back- please don't worry." She was babbling now, barely aware of the words that spilled out of her mouth as she backed away towards the stairs. "I just need to go- thanks- I'm sorry."
She felt a handrail, which meant that she had reached the stairs. Without another word she turned and raced up them, clutching the bag of books to her chest. This was more than she could have hoped for when she'd first come back. Some might even say it was lucky. But Aquarius couldn't bring herself to call it that.
"Afraid of finding something to be happy about?" Exidor asked, effortlessly running next to her.
No, Aquarius thought, there was no such thing as good luck for her. But this was the closest she'd gotten in a long time. That was worth something.
Lithiasaur Finished on my end, I think! Thank you so much for the RP!

DivineSaturn Yes, thank you! Sorry for all the long pauses. If you want to RP again just let me know =] Camelot watched her run away, frowning and wondering if he had managed to make things worse for her. He hoped not, and guilt weighed heavily on his shoulders as he watched her retreat. He waited until he could not feel her power signature any more before he powered down.
Looking at the remaining books that had not made it into her bag, he sighed and moved to collect them, one by one, and return them to the shelves. A short while spent shelf reading gave him the missing numbers, which he plugged into the computer and took out of availability once he walked downstairs to the bottom floor and reached his desk.
That all done, and mind lingering on the last encounter, he decided he had done enough at the library that night, and could do some good elsewhere. Hopefully, anyway. At the moment, he didn't think he had done much good just yet, and needed to get away from the lingering feeling of guilt and concern.
