"Your pay gets deposited into an account that they set up for you. They should issue you a card--you may have to pick it up at the lighthouse the first time you portal out of here, I don't remember--and it works just like any other debit card." Did they have debit cards in England? Evan didn't want to get another lecture, so he just assumed they did and pressed on. "They'll give you a fake ID, too, so you can buy important stuff like alcohol."

Nora seemed to be thinking beyond that, though. "I guess we can find, like, an Ikea or something." Shopping was pretty low on Evan's list of priorities. Still, he found himself curious to find out what Nora's idea of decorating was. He hoped really hard that she wasn't into flowers and unicorns and rainbows.

She figured she'd feel very flattered if they still gave her a fake ID, until she remembered. Dead to the world, right. "Maybe," Nora agreed, wondering if she was really up for this after all. Not that Evan wasn't a good guy, but she had been thinking of this in terms of being temporary and borrowed more than actually living there like a roommate. Something flexible like that. It typically didn't involve rearranging someone's living space to this degree, and it felt weird for her to be considering it like this.

"If it's too much trouble, I can just bother my cous, y'know," she told him. "I'm not one for touching people's things--well to be nosy, yeah, but not . . ." Nora trailed away, then sighed and admitted, "I was hoping the room'd be bigger, to be honest. Don't ask me why." Maybe her desperation to have some away time from the dungeon had blinded her.

"I wouldn't have offered if I thought it'd be trouble," Evan replied with a shrug. It was mostly true. He would have offered regardless of how much trouble it would have been, because no one should have to do the jobs that they did and then have to go home to a torture chamber in a basement dungeon. He raised an eyebrow at Nora's claim that she didn't go through peoples' things. Maybe that hadn't been part of her job description. It wasn't like he had much to touch anyway, and if she did manage to find his stuff--and free it from its hiding places intact--she was welcome to it.

His glance around the room was brief, small as it was, and he nodded understandingly. "Anything's got to be better than the basement, right? I know it's not much," he admitted, "but it's home, for now. Full Hunters get bigger rooms upstairs, and they can add their own kitchens and bathrooms and stuff into them. Definitely looking forward to that. You can live in town, too, in a house, but it's not nearly as well fortified as it is here."

Evan could definitely see where Nora was coming from, though; he might not have had many things to take up space, but he himself used his fair share of it. "You don't have to stay if you don't want to," he reassured her. "It was just a thought."

"I dunno," she said airily, forcing her side of the conversation to go back to something looser and casual. "The bloodstained concrete gets charming after a while. If I put a frame around it, I could call it abstract art made from someone's literal blood, sweat, and tears even."

But damn, she needed to get some experience and missions. A whole kitchen to herself? A small penthouse even? Gods yes.

"But, ah . . . here, let's start over." Nora pat his shoulder. "Temp accomodations every once in a while, should the jarhead need some cuddle time, eh? Or if I'm too lazy to make it downstairs to my room. I'll pay you back with food as rent, how's that sound?"

"Cuddles and food, huh?" Evan sighed and shook his head, though he couldn't keep from grinning. "It's like you know me or something. Okay, you've twisted my arm, it's a deal." Gir whispered a quick suggestion to him, and he quickly amended, "It's almost a deal. I'm totally down with the food, because food is food, but I can't rate the quality of your cuddles without experiencing them first," he said, trying to sound serious around the smile that wanted to break free.

She grinned and half-heartedly waved him off. "Bah, all men are the same at heart!" Nora said as she made for his bed. "Always touching and eating. Much easier to handle than women some days."

She then proceeded to try and lounge on Evan's bed with the airs of a queen. Part of her wondered if they'd really get any sleep, though, as she had failed to mention that her restless leg syndrome as she so affectionately called it did have its roots in other things: namely, sometimes kicking in her sleep.

"'Course, if you want something a little more than that, my schedule's open," she added casually, testing the flexibility of the mattress with a hand.

"Some days," Evan scoffed in lighthearted protest. "Touching and eating are about it for us. Maybe sleeping, too. Women are a total mystery. Trying to figure them out is like trying to walk through a minefield blindfolded: the chances of getting through to what they're really thinking is there, but you're probably going to wind up losing a few limbs in the process."

Then Nora was in his bed, and Evan took a moment to just admire the sight and commit it to memory. He fought to keep a goofy grin off his face, managing to tone it down to just exceptionally pleased. The question about whether or not he should keep his pants on was answered quickly by his common sense; he didn't want to push or rush or presume anything, and he'd fallen asleep in his full gear often enough that just pants sometimes felt like too little clothing.

He crawled into bed next to her, the size of the bed with the both of them in it too small for Evan to get any farther than very close. He figured--he hoped--it wouldn't earn him a kicking, but they were supposed to be cuddling anyway. He draped his arm around her waist for lack of anywhere else to put it /liar you're lying heeheeheeeee~/ and shifted towards her the fraction of an inch that tipped the scales between "possibly staying on the bed" and "almost definitely landing on the floor" in favor of him not winding up with a bruised a**. "More?" Evan asked, an eyebrow twitching upwards in question. "What kind of more did you have in mind?"
