"He does? Well, I'm touched." Babylon had been almost certain his ancestor was resigned to dying with him, so it was good to know that things still sounded at least a little optimistic to an outside observer. Even if everything else was going wrong, at least he had a bit of hope.

"We've got business cards about the building," he said. "I'll send you one when I get home tonight." At least he could still manage that. "We've got guardian cats coming in and out all the time. Shouldn't be any problem with regular ones as long as you clean up after them."

Kaatje would be proud of him, he thought distantly: plugging their endeavor even as he was dying.

"I'm gonna go call it a night," he said, yawning. "With an n, not a k. No pun intended. God. I'm beat."

Babylon nodded. "Iris. Yeah. Tell her if she saves my life, I'll buy her a burrito every Friday from now until the year 2020." He tried to do the math. That was... a lot of burritos. Like somewhere in the neighborhood of two thousand. Iris would eat him out of house and home but it would be well worth it.

"G'night," he said, tossing Kairatos a salute that would have made Kaatje van der Weydin cringe, and turning to head home.
