"I'm sure that would go over just peachy." He was still waiting for Arland to make some sort of joke about the language or more likely Crocodile Dundee or something worse.

"I'm sure someone's already the equivalent of one of those... And they're probably legit dealing and not just offering fragrances. Does remind me, though. My old roommate used to have one of those wax melty things, yeah? Swear to god, made it smell like she was baking fresh cinnamon buns every morning. Could've choked her every time she wasn't." He snagged one of the menus so that he could peer over it, ordering a hot tea when their server came over to ask about drinks.

He ordered coffee for himself before pondering waffle options. "I'm sorta glad we never had any need of waxy things to make the house smell good. IT was easy enough to just open windows and mom usually made fresh breakfast on weekends anyway"
At least she had up until his sisters had died. After that he figured it brought back memories she iddn't want.

"Sometimes you do it to make things feel more like home than because you're trying to cover up a smell. It was a flat we got to make it seem a little bit better than living in a college dorm." He brushed his fingers back through his hair, glancing out the window for a moment before looking back down at the menu. "Think you know what you're getting yet?"

"Must have been nice to be able to do that at least." He hadn't really had anything feel like home in so long he was starting to think he had forgotten what it was like.
"I think I am going with the waffle combo with strawberries and whipped cream." Plus he'd get bacon and eggs and it would be a much needed break from the crappy rations they usually ate. "what are you getting?"

"This." He pointed to a monster omelet platter that came with home fries and a stack of pancakes. It was definitely an 'eyes bigger than your stomach' choice off of the menu, but he wasn't all that sure he cared. If anything it would just mean that he wouldn't be hungry for lunch and could save that money to go towards dinner. It would give him something to walk off while he was doing a little bit of shopping anyways. Not long after he had pointed his choice out on the menu did their server return, taking their orders down with a smile before leaving them to their own conversations again.

He ordered a large stack of waffles along with bacon and eggs, trying not to think about how Arland was going to eat the pile of food he'd picked out in one sitting.
Once the waitress was gone he looked over at his friend. "Order enough food?" He grinned. "Oh! did you watch that video I sent you on your phone? The surfing thing?" He'd found a good beginners tutorial video on youtube and figured Arland could get something out of it before their trip. He just wasn't sure his friend had actually watched it rather than just ignoring it.

"... You sent me a video on my phone?" His brow lofted slightly as he shifted to turn for his bag, reaching to dig his phone out before flipping through his messages. "Oh, you mean this thing I couldn't figure out how to open?" He handed his phone over, giving Inoke a clear answer in that as to whether or not he'd gotten a chance to watch it.

"It's a link to youtube, you just click on it. Al I did was text you the url." He took the phone and after a moment got the video to open. For some reason Arland's cell didn't want to open it just by clicking the link but holding onto it and asking it to open had worked. He paused the video as it started to play and held the phone back out to his friend.
"I'd hoped you'd watched it already but I guess surfing is one of those things that's easier to learn by doing than watching videos."

"Going to be completely honest with you, man... I am completely expecting me plus surfing to be a complete bust." He smirked, shaking his head slowly. "Not sure I've got the coordination it requires, even with the, uh... Special forces training. Just don't laugh at me too much, yeah?"

"It's not all that hard. Your balance isn't terrible and that's the hardest part. We'll get you a long board since those are easier." He smiled. "Besides we've got two days this time and we can always try again later. You might find out it's relaxing."

He paused their conversation as the food was delivered to the table and he spent a moment or two just staring at it as though it might disappear before he could bring his knife and fork to it. "God, I forgot how much I missed breakfast." He murmured, trying to figure out where to even start.

"I've missed actual food." Rations were terrible and he never really wanted to see them again. "You'd think they'd be able to get us stuff like this evey once in a while. I mean waffles you can freeze." They could probably find ways to keep proper food good on the island, even more so with the power back up. "Hell almost anything would be better than what we've been eating."

"So what we need to do is pool together for a mini-fridge... And start buying our own things; spend like the last hour or so of this trip picking up things that won't spoil. Bottled water, maybe some ramen..." He hated saying it, but there had been a time or two where he would have, quite possibly, killed for a block of $.10 ramen and a packet of seasoning.
Instead of letting his thoughts linger any further on that, though, he unwrapped his silverware, snagging his fork so that he could start shoveling bites of his omelet into his mouth. "Mm..."

"Might not be a bad idea. We could stash it in one of our rooms and snag actual food when we really needed it." Which might be more often now. It was wort a shot though, finding out if they could store some food like that. "Maybe get a mini fridge and some sort of plastic box we can stuff under a bed for dry goods?"
He'd already unwrapped is silverware so once the food was settled in front of him he dug in.
