It was uncomfortable to have the question posed at all to himself, as though he had some choice in the tactics and direction of the courts of the Throne of Earth. He'd only met the Konge Zinkenite personally once, and the Konge Howlite twice impersonally. He didn't understand or know the depths of their purposes. Silently looking up, the point was well taken, whichever way was the most likely. The black could wipe out the stars, or it could consume them. Or it could pretend to truces and then consume them. There were many tactics used in war that would be appropriate, but the initial situation was the same in all of them.
The stars were spread out, twinkling in the swath of black. They could not hold out forever. They could not brighten the sky as the sun and moon did. There was no point in lengthy truces that gave anything over to the stars, unless to soften their final resistance to winking out. There were more and more senshi and knights, but the sky didn't seem to be getting any brighter for that. It was like weeding a garden, perpetual and troubling, but manageable.
It wasn't any more comfortable a notion.
