Yitzah stared at Kaalnia's face, intent and lost in the story. Her insides felt cold as Kaalnia described it. It sounded so vivid, so painful, so real, so inescapable – just like her own. It was similar enough to give the little girl pause, and to make her heart nearly stop in shock.
So she does get it.
But no, decided Yitzah, after a moment, she didn't. Warriors were supposed to fight other people, right? And Kaalnia was a warrior. She'd had nightmares, like Yitzah, but she'd had them about some person. That was pretty weak.
Yitzah had seen a monster, a living nightmare. Her nightmares were real. Her nightmares were valid.
She looked away grouchily, annoyed at the woman for her claim.

Kaalnia had to take a moment to recover and prevent herself from reliving it. She had just shared the nightmare she had fought for years, the horrible shadow that she sort of still fought. She closed her eyes and held it back.
At least the girl had listened to her – she'd seen that look in her eyes. That meant the whole thing wasn't a waste of breath and revived suffering. She hoped it had helped.
She opened her own eyes, only to see that the attitude of the girl had changed back again, like some sort of elastic band. ”What?” she asked, irritably.

Yitzah turned back to Kaalnia with a searing glare. What?! What?! Well she hadn't lied, but she'd been a huge wimp! They were nothing like each other...
Nothing... like...
Yitzah burst into tears without any warning, sobbing piteously into her hands.

Kaalnia blinked, surprised. ”Hey...” she said, stunned, reaching her hand out to the girl, ”Hey, c'mon. I didn't mean it like that...” her touch wasn't refused, and she put her arms around Yitzah, hugging her gently as she crouched on the floor by her. ”Shh...” she whispered soothingly. She wasn't sure why the girl was crying but she could guess. ”Shh, its okay. It's going to be okay.” she cooed, ”Just let it all out, kid. It's better out here, where it can't eat at you... Just let it all out...”

Yitzah hated crying. She hated it. Crying wouldn't bring her sisters back. She knew this, and yet she burrowed into Kaalnia's arms and cried into her. She couldn't stop crying – Kaalnia's comforting seemed to make even more tears and feelings come out of her, and Yitzah hated it and it hurt. But... as she cried... she felt the nightmares recede and, as her sobs began to change in frequency and exhaustion began to set in, She felt... better.
She felt better.
