It was a good small step, she decided as she returned Noemi's squeeze with one of her own. "Mr. Allan is magic," Stormy said simply, smiling. She was glad Noemi was making friends, though Stormy made a note to check up more on these individuals just in case; the habit had never quite died out even though Nevada had.
As the discussion was going to end up leaning into the last major mission, she gestured for Noemi to take a seat on her bed if she wanted. Normally Stormy would have offered food, but Noemi had already brought some, and her fridge was emptied thanks to one Leslie King anyway. She felt a pang of deja vu as she grabbed a roll of paper towels from the closet brought it back, settled down, remembering the times she and Nevada had shared lunches just acting like college roommmates, watching dvds and exchanging news and gossip.
"Memories," Stormy replied belatedly, tugging an enchilada off the plate and wrapping it up in a paper towel to try and prevent messiness, though she kept it half over the platter just in case. "Diseases", though, that was a strange one for her cousin . . . "Don't let it bother you too much. A lot of things happen that give you alternate glimpses into other worlds."
And speaking of. Storym turned sheepish.
"I'm sorry for acting crazy back there, too. That was . . . It's a long story, but that was another me from a very different life that never happened."

"...Magic!??!" Noemi blinked, "Allan is magic, he can bring snow. He saved us during mission, I remember. Nakama~" Noemi laughed a little, "The word family? Like Lilo and Stitch, no one gets left behind?" That's what family meant, even if there was many left behind.
She moved to the spot Stormy pointed to, tucking her legs up and resting her chin on her knees. It was habit to make self seem smaller in the grand scheme of things.
"Memories?" She wondered why her cousin would have such a complicated fear. She wanted to ask more, to dig deeper. But she could never, and thus let it go. "There is a lot not to bother me. I see other me's, scarier me's. I see other worlds, places I could never understand." She closed her eyes, "I see other images, so many things and it makes me afraid, more that it could be reality here. That one day, we will not see alternate universes..." Noemi had been through too many of the dreams. "That all we are is everything we are not anymore."
She looked up at Stormy again, "You were under spell. Miss Cami on twitter attacked you and I hit her back to stop her. It Mister Evan wasn't there..." She froze, "I would not do any good."

"Ohana, yeah." She still remembered the first time she had watched it with Nevada and how she had cried stupidly hard over the one little premise even more than that ugly duckling scene with Stitch because she still missed her family and Nevada had to pause and hold her for a long while until she got over it. "I have the movie if you ever want to watch. Lots of movies, actually."
She smiled, even though it hurt as much as to remember as it had one week ago, two weeks ago, three, four, five. Even though watching Noemi was like rewinding the past and watching herself. She smiled because it was simply better than not smiling, and her face was so used to it that it looked very genuine--it helped that the sentiment behind her response wasn't faked.
"Who you are won't change unless you decide to," Stormy told her gently. "Every alternate universe is just that: Alternate. Optional. Chance. Who you are here is something only you can determine, okay? That's what's important."
There was something subtly pleading about her statement, as if trying to tell Noemi something without words.
Stormy waved away Noemi's doubts. "You defended me. You did something, Noemi, and I'm proud of you for that," she said, and the smile was real all the way through, if small. "Rule one for combat: never freeze up."

"Ohana and Nakama." She blinked, "You...You have movies?" Noemi didn't know they could have those.
"Who I am here....?" Noemi nodded, "Because this is my reality, Is not dream, though it feels like one." She chuckled nervously. She didn't catch Stormy's troubles, though she wish she could. Ignorance was bliss and Noemi was rolling in it.
"Never freeze up." She look down at her hands, then back up at Stormy. "Did you have trouble in battle at first as well? I...sometimes I feel that I cannot bring myself to hit things." She laughed nervously. "I had spar with Hanna once? Though we didn't use weapons and..." She chuckled, "It was hard hitting her."

Stormy nodded. "All Disney right now, but I'm gonna get new ones later. You're welcome to borrow my dvd player."
Did she have trouble in battle at first? Heh. For once it was not quite bitter nostalgia that hit her, and she nibbled the enchilada with a soft chuckle. "It's always hard when you weren't taught how to fight. I definitely had a bumpy ride getting used to wielding my weapon, it's kinda on the heavy side. But if I can do it, you can too! What's your partner like?"

"All disney!" Noemi smiled, "We had some disney movies, mostly the ones about animals. Lion King and Great mouse detective and Rescuers down under." She nodded, "But Mami likes those um..Soap operas? She watched too many of them." Her mom liked spanish and american ones.
Noemi never saw the appeal.
"My partner!" Noemi squeaked and jumped off the bed to show Stormy, summoning the medium sized trident. "She is Melusine! But I call her Mel, well she told me to call her Mel. She's a mermaid!" Noemi babbled, "And...And she's really kind. She does her best to keep me calm. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not! But she does her best."
Mel's soft voice surrounded her, like a mental...voice hug or something. Noemi's face started to blush.
"She says I am cute sometimes, I don't know why though."

"She liked novelas too, huh? So did mine," Stormy said fondly, deciding that a few nibbles of the food was enough for the hour. She set the enchilada back on the plate and pushed it off to the side, then turned to look at Noemi's weapon properly, cooing over it.
It relieved her more than words could describe that her cousin had gotten a kind partner.
"It's because you are cute," Stormy told her and she remembered Nevada had said the same of her when they first talked. "But a trident is really neat and fitting!" Making sure there was room, she summoned her greatsword, which seemed more organic and skeletal than its original form. "This is Thane! He's a dracolich, which is a fancy way of saying undead dragon with magic powers."
< < How can an oversized fork be a weapon? Her partner should be ashamed its true form is something so mundane. > >
"He says hello!"

"Yes." Noemi laughed, "She would read them while Papi was out working. Her face would get all red and dreamy and she'd...." Noemi shook her head. "And she would make small gasping sounds and put her hand on her heart..." Noemi demonstrated. " Mami and her shows and her books.
She made a small strangled sound, "No no. Not cute!" She nodded, "I like Mel, she is very light and not so heavy." She nodded, and her weapon was pretty. She had seen some others and...
and...
and speaking of other weapons.
Noemi stared at the great broadsword. "O...Oh...A dragon...." She meekly said.
Mel commented, curious about the weapon.
"O...Oh! Hello Thane! Er...It's...nice to meet you." Noemi would be forever duped by hunters with rude weapons. Koume/Milo now Thane/Stormy.

"It sounds cooler than it is. Over here it doesn't matter so much how big the weapon is than it does who wields it: there are people with daggers who could beat me in a fight, hands down." Stormy de-summoned Thane back to his ring totem. "But light is good! Means you can jab faster than the heavier weapons. It'd be really handy in a fight."
She had to pause and look at herself, trying to dispense battle knowledge like she was a professional. It felt a little like a dog in a funny set of clothes trying to teach a human what fashion was. Maybe their first conversation in weeks shouldn't be about work anyway . . . Stormy scratched at her scalp idly, then perked.
"But we can worry about all that later. You brought the food, I have the movies. Let's just sit and watch something?" she suggested as she got to her feet and dragged out a box full of dvds to haul onto the bed. "Your pick!"

"Really?" Noemi would like to believe that Stormy was the strongest type of hero, so the idea of daggers was thrown away as soon as it was said. Let's just say the younger cousin was putting Stormy on a small pedestal even if she knew the girl could easily fall from it.
She blinked and then looked over at the DVD player.
"Y..You don't mind me watching with you?" She got up, at first a little hesitant but there was an obvious sign of want as she slowly went to the dvd collection.
"H...Can we watch this one?" Noemi touched the case for Frozen, looking over at Stormy. "I've always wanted to see the Ice queen."

"I don't mind at all," Stormy assured her, getting on the bed and tugging the plate of food she had barely touched so that there was adequate space for her cousin to sit. She made no reaction about Noemi's choice of movie besides a nod, leaning over and getting the DVD out of the case before popping it in; the sinking feeling in her chest was easy to ignore when it was Disney, even in spite of this particular one.
She smiled a little sheepishly. "I'll try not to sing along since it's your first time, but it's really good! There's also a reason it won an award for best original song. I hope you like it!" She nudged the food towards Noemi in a silent gesture for her to remember to enjoy her own work, getting another piece for herself just to keep up appearances; it was good food, but she wasn't hungry. She'd nibble throughout the movie and be as appropriately happy in the correct spots that she would have been normally, but all the while she would keep straying back to that single little thought that someone else should have been enjoying this with her.
The space made the gap inside her even more noticeable, and her smile grew brighter to compensate.

"I am okay with you singing along!" It meant that Stormy enjoyed the movie. She moved a bit closer to her cousin, actually happily she could share a movie with the older one.
It felt good, having family.
