Perhaps she should. But she didn't want to joke about it too much, even on accident. Instead, she waited until he stood and then leaned in for a kiss. A tiny one. For no reason, really.
Then she stepped away and eyed her scanner.
"I'm still coming up with nothing," she said. The scanner was not finding anything of interest.

It's ok, Sherry, he can handle it.
... maybe.
... probably.
... sorta.
He blinked in surprise when she leaned in for a kiss, but said nothing otherwise, breaking into a small smile. It was a small thing, but it helped distract him from the task at hand.
Jake turned his attention back to the fear scanner.
"Maybe we should widen our horizon?"
"... or maybe not."
The scanner beeped again, and he looked down to see what it was.

"Hm?" Sherry looked down. "See, this is why I brought you along. You keep finding things." She grinned at him as she knelt to see what it was.
It wasn't anything flashy, some broken clay, possibly from a bowl or some crude armor. "Interesting." She bagged it right quick.
"Alright," she said, looking back up at Jake. "Just a bit longer and then I think we can head back."

Jake had been hoping there was... a bit more to that, that she hadn't really just wanted him along because he had a knack for finding weird things.
"Um, thanks..."
He watched her put the object into a bag, and then glanced around to see if there was more stuff lying about. He had found those two relatively quickly, so maybe...
Picking up a stray object, he shook it slightly to get rid of the sand, and noticed that it was the hilt of a sword.
... a horseman weapon perhaps?
He didn't speculate on it much more as he put it into the bag, and looked up at Sherry.
"Should we... keep looking?"

"Oh! Look at you," she couldn't help but grin as he picked up a broken bit of weapon next. "You really are good at finding these things. Yep. I think I'll take you on all of my item retrieving missions." It was a playful grin.
"We can keep looking, but it might be about time to head back. Besides, we don't want the bag to get too full. Between that and the sun..." She looked up for emphasis. "A break might be in order."
She slid in next to him, wrapping her arm around his. "It's really too bad- I doubt this will be the end of the missions. What I wouldn't give to crawl back into bed with you for a nap."

He knew she was just teasing, but he couldn't help but frown.
"Only if I get to sleep in and get proper food... and perhaps a shower."
While he was accustomed to warm weathers, he didn't make him impervious to sweat, and even now, he shifted uncomfortably as his shirt clung to his back, and with the addition of his coat and gear, it didn't help matters one bit.
"A break might be good." he mumbled.
He stupidly forgot to bring water, and was now wishing he did, starting to feel an irritable itch in his throat, and tried to push it out of his mind. At least, with Sherry slinging her arms around him like that, it helped to take his mind off it... somewhat. It didn't help with the heat and sweat factor though.
"Oh? Just a nap?"
He really should not be teasing her like that.

"Of course! Proper sleep, food, and a nice shower." As if she would make him suffer. But boy, did a shower sound nice. Jake wasn't the only one sweating, and Sherry found herself infinitely glad she was not wearing leggings that day, or her warmest boots. If only she'd not grabbed a long-sleeve top...
Warm as she was, it didn't keep her from clinging to Jake. Though she did take a moment to open her coat, letting more of a breeze in. Jake's back wasn't the only one gross, though Sherry wasn't about to voice any complaints out loud. The goggles were grossly sweaty, too, she realized. Ugh.
Thank heaven he agreed that a break was due. She needed a drink, and while she might have had a never ending supply of wine... Well. It wasn't water. And being drunk in the desert was in no way a good idea.
"Hm?" Her grin was growing again, and she leaned on him, just a little, and couldn't help but take the bait. "I was thinking just a nap...but if you had something else in mind..." No, he really shouldn't be teasing her like that. She was red enough from the sun, and now, well. He was just joking right? Because two could play that game. "I honestly was thinking a shower and then a nap, though."

The goggles were bothering him too, and as if to prove it, he yanked them off with his free hand, and wiped the sweat off his face with his sleeve. He inwardly cursed himself for not having worn a sleeveless shirt as getting burned... wasn't really a concern for him, but what's done was done, and he only sighed before pulling them back over his head.
"All of those would sound pretty nice right about now..."
That, and water. And yes, drinking wine out in the burning heat really wasn't a good idea, especially glowing runic wine which should... probably only be saved for emergencies. Thankfully, and hopefully, an emergency that wouldn't be arising anytime soon.
He turned to look at her, not saying anything for a moment as he just stared. And then, he broke into a small grin.
"I wash your back, you wash mine?"
It was hard to tell if he was just blowing the saying out of proportion by mistake, or on purpose.

So gross. The desert sucked. At least there no dead rotting bodies this time. Small favors, Sherry knew. Small favors.
Jake didn't give her time to dwell on how sweaty and gross she was. He hit her back with a comment that made her blush creep down her neck, well beyond what the sun would have caused.
She nearly just laughed it off. But instead she found herself saying, "That sounds like a nice trade. And a nice place to start."
Sherry just liked to see Jake grin like that, okay.

Jake didn't say anything else, and only continued grinning, slinging and arm around her so that he could lean in and give her a peck on the forehead.
"Then let's get these missions over with so we can leave."
He raised his other hand, giving the bag a light shake before lowering it, and started to walk, letting go of her shoulder and opting for her hand instead.

"Let's," she said with a content sigh.
He did know she was mostly joking right? Of course he did. He was joking, he had to be. He was Jake, and well, she kinda knew how he felt about things. Right. They'd be talking later.
But she knew he was not joking about the getting missions over with of course. Please, the sooner they got out of the desert, the better.
She squeezed his hand once, and then followed him back to the base camp.
