Toki turned his head, he couldn't smell fear anymore which was good, and it wasn't whimpering which was better.
"I saw no point to it. I am old and only have a few years left. Why bother with some pesky ritual to gain more power? I had all I needed.. but... My chieftain needed another Khehorian to back him up. The Clan needed me to be one.. so..." He shrugged and offered another piece of meat to the caged critter.
Over the next few days, he calmed the creature down, got it used to his two legged form and his Khehora one. Then he expanded the cage to cover the cave door, letting the animal more freedom but not enough to let it escape. Then, with Sulu's help, he started to teach it to fetch things. Food rewards was very useful! Eventually he stopped caging it, letting it roam and hoping it would come back. Which it did. Little glutton, he thought to himself with a smile. Food was a great motivator!
Eventually, after it was used to him and was just beginning to act as a sounding board (calling out when Toki got too close to the cavern walls as he flew), Toki bid Sulu a good bye and wished her luck in her travels and headed home.
