Bare Trees nodded her head, "Ah yes, I'm not-- particularly after it, but it's always pleasant for me to help in whatever way I can. Especially that it benefits me as well." He was very peculiar to her, in the way he spoke and moved -- but she knew for sure that it was such a breath of fresh air!
She took note in the way his striped tail moved, how he gathered the oranges and idly doing that herself as well. Sprig made a content sound when a piece of fruit was offered to her, jumping over it and tearing it with her beak as she ate it. She ruffled her feathers at him in gratefulness, she very obviously liked this new buck.
"Ah yes---that is Sprig -- Oh my," she paused, looking shocked, "I'm-- I'm sorry I did not introduce myself, I'm Bare Trees, you may call me Tree and ah --- er---" she looked over to her determined sister, it was as if no one else was there. "She is my sister, yes. Um, she doesn't like others so much..." The light doe said apologetically.

"That is generous of you." Herald wasn't all that versed in dealing with kin who desired to help others or otherwise be helpful at all, but the notion was a nice one.
The buck smiled, looking quite pleased at the great eagle's feather ruffling. "Good day, Sprig, I do hope that was refreshing for you." Herald chuckled, a low, soft sound, tilting his head to observe the doe. She seemed a little off-kilter and unfamiliar with friendly interaction, and when Tree mentioned the sour doe in the distance was her sister...it made a little more sense to him. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Tree." Herald lifted his ears, trying to catch the distant doe's attention so he might bow his head politely to her in turn.
"Don't worry. I have four sisters, I know what that's like." He chuckled again, using his front hoof to add another fruit to his pile.

Wildland started to get testy with her lack of progress, turning her eyes and seeing that these other two were doing better in collecting than her! She didn't understand, these oranges were too soft!
She practically pounced over the oranges, crushing some with her strong legs and arriving in front of the two with a sour expression.
"..." Quietly she was inspecting their orange piles, raising a brow as she looked over to Herald. "What are you doing here?"

"Well that's very nice of you!" She chuckled, blinking at his offering to her eagle.
She couldn't help but feel something in her stomach when he said her name, bowing more exaggeratingly at him in response. "Such a pleasure to meet you -- I've never really met a gentleman like you." She was very honest, though still a bit shy -- though her flustered appearance was because of something different after a few moments.
"Ah, Wildland -- this is Herald --" she sighed, turning over to Beast who took the remaining orange of Sprig. "He's just here like us .." Bare Trees looked over to Herald with an expression that said 'I'm so sorry'.

Herald shook his head subtly, eyes lowering for a moment. "I believe in treating others the way you wish to be treated; those who aid us in our daily endeavors are no different." Lifting his blue eyes again, he smiled, hoping to ease some of her flustered appearance. It wasn't until he was being introduced to the displeased sister that he figured out why she was flustered to begin with.
"Good day, Wildland," he greeted her with an incline of his head. "I am gathering a few oranges to take home. I promise, I will not be of a bother for long." Flicking his tail, the buck rounded the two sisters and nosed a few more oranges towards his pile, four rolling neatly into the other fruits he had gathered.

She huffed, not taking her eyes on this stranger. "You are a competitor, you need not know my name or vice versa." She eyed their stacks -- visibly shifting her weight and thinking that she definitely was losing, grumbling to herself.
"Just do not come close to me." Wildland turned her head to her sister briefly, "If you have a dalliance with him, just don't do it in this area." With that she walked away but not before giving Herald one last suspicious look, Beast wandering near Herald before he flew back to his master.

"Wildland!" She absolutely blushed just then, shaking her head when her sister walked away. Well, that actually could have gone worse.
"I--ah--" She looked down on the ground, taking a breath. "Yes um, I'm glad you say you have sisters but I'm sure none of them are like mine." Again she started rolling another orange to her pile, Sprig still eating contently but idly helping now.

Herald tilted his head to the side slowly, one brow hiked just slightly higher than the other. "I've no intent to take what you've gathered, I believe there's enough here that it's a competition between the Swamp and Her children to see if any oranges will remain at all." He smiled then, trying to take some of the electric air and soften it. Wildland was not making it easy.
He was fit to roll another orange to the second eagle, but when it followed Wildland, he simply added it to his pile instead. Herald certainly hadn't taken what she'd said to heart, but seeing Tree so beside herself with humiliation made his chest ache with sympathy. "Hey now, Tree." Rounding the doe again, he gently touched his nose to her jaw, bumping beneath her cheek in a mostly playful gesture. "I've no intent to harm your sister's ego nor damage yours in such an undignified manner. Please don't worry."
Smiling again, he ushered a few more oranges to his pile and, using his teeth to again bite one in half, he rolled said half to Sprig.

She was terribly surprised when she felt his face near hers, staring at him with widened eyes. Very much a stranger to physical affection, she wasn't really embarrassed but-- she was realizing she really liked how that felt.
"...Again, see you are the one who is the most good-hearted among us here," she said with a sweet smile, bowing her head slightly then not because of embarrassment. "And of course, Sprig is practically attached to you now that you keep feeding her!" The doe chuckled softly when she saw Sprig devouring the oranges pushed to him, Bare trees taking a bite of her own in the one closest to her.
"It's been some time since I've felt relaxed -- I truly thank you."

Kicking more oranges from her path, she started once again to roll the oranges to her pile, this time actually pushing with her nose and not grabbing them with her jaw.

"I don't know that I deserve that praise," he remarked with amusement in his voice. A few more oranges were rolled towards their destination. "I think you are, for loving your sister and keeping her company, even if you feel her words are untoward."
The mention of Sprig made him smile, pausing to watch the eagle feast. "She's beautiful. If I might spoil her for our brief interlude, I will do so." Herald turned his head subtly at the last comment, expression mostly unreadable despite his pleasant smile in place. "It is my pleasure to give you a reprieve, even if small."

And it seemed that.. just nosing them worked better. She huffed, turning her head to the other two. She wouldn't admit it though! Distantly she could hear them talk about her, and pft, she could see her sister definitely look very different talking to this new buck.

"Oh you absolutely do, Herald!" She liked the way he smiled, turning her head down to resume the work, also trying not to make a fool out of herself completely.
Sprig walked towards the buck and gently leaned her head against his leg in thanks. "Sprig! You're so happy with the attention are you?" Though she felt the same as the eagle, even though she wasn't bold enough to do that same thing to him.
"Ah? ... Oh, yes, you definitely do." His words made her feel very happy -- even if he told her a story or tell her all the plants in the swamp, she welcomed any conversation

Herald caught Wildland's annoyed glance. He cast her a smile in return, harmless. It wasn't that he wanted to deflect her, but he didn't want to agitate her, either.
The eagle's touch of grand head against his leg made his chest feel light. To earn the affection of such a great beast, even for a moment, was mollifying. Herald bowed his head to touch his nose to the top of her head, softly whuffling and feeling her fair feathers plume against his dark skin. He nuzzled the eagle gingerly before lifting his head again, giving her freedom from his gratitude.
"You are very kind and big-hearted, Tree; it shows even in your companion here." The buck chuckled, his tail swishing and adding a few more oranges to his pile. He wouldn't dare move and disturb the eagle. "I feel fortunate to have run into the two of you this day. I had only intended to gather food, but instead I have made a friend."

Sprig ruffled her feathers, content when he nuzzled her back and after the show of affection moved towards Bare Trees and flew up on her back, still looking at Herald with attentive eyes.
She chuckled, "Sprig is telling me she doesn't want to leave," the doe smiled at Herald, "She ..wishes to see you again one day?" Bare Trees looked a little hopeful, her pile was getting bigger and just enough that she could carry. Her heart in turn felt light when he called her a friend, and she was truly touched at even that simple word.
"She is a good judge of character and well, I have thoroughly enjoyed your company as well..."
