Samoset peered up from his knees, revealing tear laden eyes. He leaned into his brother's chest as he was hugged and sighed... His expression becoming far more serious.
"... I saw you... With an Oban." He replied, staring straight into Kennet's eyes. "You looked very close with him, Ken. I was just worried that you... Well... Might've fallen in love with him... You'd never leave us for an Oban, right?"

Kennet's eyes grew wide and quickly darted away, his cheeks flushing red. Crap, Sam had caught him seeing Xilarn! He had to be more careful about meeting him up in the forest from now on, to lessen the risk of getting caught by Yansa, or someone else in an important position. He sighed and bit his lip as he pondered the right way to respond... His brother was clearly worried about him taking off and leaving him alone, wasn't he?
"Sam, you need to understand something about him." He began. "He's a prentice, has no experience with fighting, and wants to be a Spearman. I've offered to show him some pointers so he can eventually go home to his family and explain that we aren't a bunch of horrible savages without sounding like a stupid kid who doesn't know anything. You don't need to worry about me seeing him."

"But are you in love with him?" Samoset pressed, his mouth twisting upwards. "You're blushing, you like him. What is it about him that you find appealing?"
He leaned forward and pushed his brother to the ground, pinning him to the ground as he did so. He gripped Kennet's wrists firmly and stared down at him rather sternly, as if he were trying to proclaim dominance.
"I can help you find an Alkidike that will make you forget all about him, Kennet." He grumbled. "Elisheba may not like me, but she might like you, and if she does, I can guarantee that she'll be so much better than a homicidal maniac from Oba."

Kennet didn't like being pinned down and immediately began fighting against his brother's grip. However, the more he struggled, the more Samoset appeared to settle his weight upon him, to the point where it became hard for him to breathe. Why... Why was his brother suddenly becoming so possessive? It was terrifying!
"Samoset, let me go!" He screamed, spitting onto the other's face. "Xilarn isn't like the other Obans, he's actually not very strong at all!" He cringed as his brother's grip only tightened further. "Stop it, you're hurting my wrists!"

But Samoset only pressed himself further upon Kennet's chest, his expression becoming increasingly hostile. He moved his knee upwards and leaned it upon Kennet's stomach, before he raised himself forward, opting to pin his brother by kneeling upon him instead of laying upon him. From there, he wiped the spit off of his face, and struck Kennet in the head with his fist.
"Sure, he's weak NOW, but what about when he gets a weapon?" He growled, pulling Kennet's head upwards by his dreads. "He could kill you, Kennet, and you would never be found! I won't let you run off with someone who could take you away from me forever!"

The blow to his head had been weak, but in terms of emotions, it had broken Kennet's heart. He found himself staring at Samoset, his eyes welling up with tears, and his mouth more than just dry. ...Take him away? Forever?
"The way you're treating me right now makes me want to run away..." He muttered, tears rolling down his face. "In fact, sometimes, you make me want to wrap rope around my neck and remove myself from the world... You're that insufferable!"
He raised his fist and slammed it into Samoset's stomach, sending the other boy several feet backwards, before he staggered up, coughed, and turned to retrieve his spear from the ground.
"Sometimes... You really make me sick." He muttered, sniffling. "...I don't know why I deserve a brother like you."

Samoset's head smacked against the bark of a tree with a low thud, but quickly snapped upwards towards Kennet again. He lunged upwards but stopped short, the power of his brother's punch catching up to him. He knelt to the ground instead and gasped, while staring up at his brother.
Tears... Kennet was crying. He made his brother cry. He tilted his head to the side and reached a hand out towards the other boy, before quickly retracting it in another sudden spur of anger.
"You want to kill yourself?" He growled. "You're so ungrateful to me and our family that you would stoop to such a cowardly thing! I can't believe it!"
He forced himself upwards, stepped forward, and moved to grasp Kennet's shoulder.
"No, put that spear down, you're not well." He said. "I can't trust you to go anywhere with it if you say such stupid things. I don't want you to get hurt."

Kennet allowed his brother to grasp his shoulder as he stood back up, giving him a melancholy stare in return. He placed his spear back in it's holster and placed his hands upon Samoset's shoulder.
"Listen to me!" He demanded, sobbing. "I don't want to harm myself, but the things you say and do to me make me feel that it might be a good idea! There's a big difference. I want to live, I want to be outside, and I want to be happy! But you always find a way to ruin my day and make me feel like s**t! That's when I find myself trying to decide whether or not life is worth living! YOU DO THIS TO ME!"
He shook Samoset a few times before spinning around towards the trees. He slammed his fist into the bark and ripped at it furiously, until he slid down to the ground and curled into a ball, consumed by his sobs.

Samoset watched Kennet rip at the bark and flopped back to the ground, curling into his own little ball once again. The pair of brothers sobbed feet apart from one another before they seemed to inch towards one another, with Samoset being the one to reach out for his brother's red marked hand. From there, they laid down and stared into the trees, tears rolling down their faces.
The silence of the forest around them gradually became alive again with the sounds of animals and people in the distance, as if all the fighting had made them deaf to the normal routine of the village and surrounding areas. They breathed in and out together, their hands intertwined, until Samoset let out a sigh.
"I love you, Kennet." He said, turning his head to look at his brother. "I'm sorry that I make you feel so horrible..."

Kennet turned his head as his brother did and gave him a small smile. It was nice to hear an apology after all of that, and he knew that, this time, it was sincere. He wiggled forward and allowed his antennae to bop against Samoset's in subconscious interaction, before pecking him on the forehead. His father often did that to both of them to comfort them during the night or after a fight, and he figured it might just help them both if they integrated a little bit of him into the situation.
"I love you, too, Samoset." He replied, nuzzling against his forehead. "I know you don't mean a lot of the stuff you do, even if you sound really convincing when you say it. You're very protective of me..."
He sighed and rolled back onto his back to stare up into the darkness, his mind wandering again.
"... Can you not mention Xilarn to the elders? Please?" He asked. "He's truly harmless, Sam. I wouldn't hang out with him if I felt he weren't, you need to trust me on that."

Samoset wiggled after his brother as he moved onto his back and placed an arm limply across his chest, wishing to be closer after their fight. He knew he had started the physical part of the fight and should've taken a few minutes to breathe before deciding to pin Kennet down, but something about his little brother falling in love with someone outside their tribe, much less an Oban, set off a flutter of negative emotions within him. He didn't want anyone to take his brother away, no matter how much they fought, he didn't want to be left alone.
Dad had left them alone... He didn't want Kennet to follow suit.
"Only if you promise me that you'll come to me if he does anything to harm you." He replied, leaning his head against Kennet's side. "I want to be able to drag his carcass into the ocean if he attacks you."

Kennet initially scoffed at Samoset's words before paying him a nod in return. It was best just to resign and agree with him for the rest of the day, or until this paranoia subsided. Still, he wanted to continue supporting Xilarn, even if he was an Oban, something he really felt didn't matter. He was gorgeous, prideful, but gorgeous, and if he could catch him in a net and make him his, he would do it without question. But, for now, as he was nowhere near where he had last seen his red eyed beloved, his heart was left to wander into other spaces.
"I wonder what dad is doing right now." He mused, watching a brightly colored Nondwa flutter through the branches. "...Do you think he's okay?"

Samoset's eyes closed. He knew that Kennet would initiate that conversation, as he often did after they argued. It was like a tick, or a repetitive thought, used to breathe life into a dead conversation or keep him calm in some way. He bit his lip against the rising frustration in his chest and further buried himself into Kennet's side, blowing a long, low, growl out as he did.
"I don't know what to think any more, honestly!" He cried. "But it seems really suspicious that dad would leave us like this. What did we do? Was it because we were arguing so much? Did we not behave well enough at the campgrounds? What did we do wrong?!"

Kennet felt the rise in his brother's anger before he could even growl and instinctively pulled him closer. He stroked Sam's back gently in an attempt to keep him calm and focused, while taking breaths in to quell his own growing frustration. No... No, daddy wouldn't abandon them. He loved them... He would come back...
He had to come back.
"Shhh, shhhh!" He whispered, nuzzling his brother. "Dad will be back, he would never abandon us, and you know it! Please, you need to have more faith in him, Sam!"

"How? It's been four months, Kennet!" Samoset exclaimed, pressing himself further against his brother. "He's been gone for FOUR MONTHS! He's missed us growing up and everything! I know he left because someone he loved died, but we're important, too!"
He let out another growl before allowing himself to sob, clinging to Kennet for dear life. This was safety, this was home... He didn't want it to go anywhere!
"...You won't leave me like dad left us, right?" He whined. "I don't want to be alone here! I need you! If you ever were to leave me I don't think I'd survive! I'd die!"
