yeah well i thought dimmu had some pretty cool spikes but then I saw gorgoroth and i was like dimmu does have anything on half of the underrated underpaid bands out there you know>?

Gorgoroth kicks the s**t out of Dimmu, Gorgoroth is black metal at its finest.

LOL GORGOROTH! What a weird, weird band... Seriously, they need to sing about things OTHER than Satan... Jeeze...
Dimmu Borgir is a lot worse then Gorgoroth if you`re talking about `overdoing satan` xp

I used to like them when I firsted started listening to black metal but after they got boring really really fast.

Mmm, I first got into black metal with Dimmu Borgir and listened to the Death Cult Armageddon album.

But I soon got very bored of that, and moved onto better and more exciting, doomy ******** black metal.

I wouldn't say they sold out or went mainstream; well not as far as I can see. They are more popular now though. They have some good songs I do think, like The Mourning Palace, their cover of Metal Heart is not too bad and Entrance is pretty good. But the Death Cult Armageddon album was a bit too gothy, and not quite the true black metal sound I love.

Besides, most of the songs on DCA sound very much the same and I can only stand listening to Vredesbyrd and Progenies of The Great Apocalypse from that album.

Dimmu just aren't that great, they are decent but. I would probably still see them in concert but if I had a choice I would choose a better band to see.

I'm pretty sure when he said "pop" of black metal that he meant that they became way to mainstream, he wasn't saying that they were pop black metal..

Gorgoroth is a wasted plateau in the northern regions of Mordor in Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings." It means approximately (Place of very great) dread. Odd they're using a "Lord of The Rings" reference for being so amazingly Satanic and yes for whoever said it Gorgoroth is so much better then Dimmu Borgir.

Anyways, I'm kind of sick of people saying "OMG!!111!111/// DEMU BORIGR Suks!11!" just because they went mainstream, it's like the Metallica bullshit, it's cool to say Dimmu Borgir sucks and shun them completely because they went a different way, but the fact is even though they did they still have some good songs. I personally love the song "Mourning Palace" and a "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" and a lot of the album "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia." When I first listened to it, even though the cd's a cheesewheel of cheese, I thought it was decent and still sometimes is nice to take a spin in my cd player.

Though I really only listen to it anymore for more nostalgic moments of my life I suppose. Of course, I honestly think "For All Tid" was quite the amazing piece of work, and "Stormblast" was sadly a sub-par follow up though still a decent listen, because I still bought it, so it must say something about the album I suppose.

Oh and "Morbid_ Emily" if they did something along the lines of "Stormblast" again I'd be pretty bloody amazed because they've gone way to far off track. They wouldn't make music for the sake of art and music anymore, instead the band is all seemingly there for just pleasing the fans and to make more money because of it.

I TOTALY AGREE

I don't know about them being pop or not, but they do look like one of the members of KISS is their stylist. The only song I like by them is their cover of Twisted Sister's "Burn In Hell."

Ok for Dimmu is still a good band but Old Mans Child is better. But Dark Tranquillity is frickin awesome!!!!!!!!

I have to agree about Old Man's Child, though I'm not all that into Dark Tranquillity.

I'll agree, they're as mainstream now as black metal can really be at the moment. Personally, I like mainstream black metal better. I'm a big Cradle of Filfth fan. The symphonic orchestration and gothic elements is part of what dream into Cradle of Filth.

Agree completely with Valick.. though I really don't care for Dimmu anymore.

As the first post said, when I was first getting into black metal (not that I know all that mcuh about it), Dimmu was a fav, but they bored me fast. Even my fav cd from them (don't remember the name right now, the one with Mourning Palace and Spellbound) bored the hell out of me.

Now I think the best albums are the 2 first ones, the others aren't all that bad, though the last one I didn't like at all.

And this is why so many people hate them now and they get bashed so much. They STILL continue to claim that they're black metal, which is clearly a lie due to that.

Most Black Metal bands are mainstream to some extent. I'm sure even a mallcore could tell you who Emperor or Mayhem are. Dimmu just took their mainstream success the farthest.

Er, just because some of the more popular bands are known even to some mallcore kids, it doesn't mean at all that most Black Metal bands are mainstream, because that's complete bullshit.
