And when he realized he really was getting himself a story from the cute little redhead, did his expression go full 'small child getting told a story.' Milo's smile grew tenfold and he settled in his bed further, and mentally cursed that his sheets had been pushed all the way to the end.
Didn't stop him from listening - and wondering if this was based on true events, she grew up on a farm, didn't she?
"Ya know, I haven't. Not like they don't offer lessons and stuff but never really did all that stuff. Seems kinda awesome." And going from his earlier thought, "You have, ya?"

She nodded, smiling up at him and wheeling her chair a bit closer to his bed, to rest her arms on, and her chin on her arms. "Spirit was a good friend, and a good horse. He was a pretty all black, with a star on his head." She pointed to forehead, where it would be on the horse. "17 hands high, he was very average height. Not too tall, but taller then me. Um...17 hands is about 5 feet and 11 inches? Very wide too. And he loved to run. When you go on his back, he would get impatient." Noemi chuckled remembering.
"We would run through the woods and he would jump over rocks and trees and it was so high up. I was scared at first but he took good care of me, let me learn to lead. Taught me that heights were not scary and that flying was fun."
She turned her head a bit, looking up at him. "You are from Hawaii, does that mean you..um board in the water? Surf?" She wanted to know, what was it like to ride an ocean wave. "What is like, riding on water?"

Aha, so his assumption had been right. It felt kinda awesome getting it out of her, learning about his little neighbor and the types of things she did back home.
"Ya know, Noemi-chan ~" He grinned, leaning a little towards her, propping his own arm against one of his pillows, "you gotta just apply that thinkin' here, ya? Gonna be scared at first and then it just gets easier and hey, maybe a little fun ~" Sure, he was repeating something he said earlier but now he had a personal life experience to go along with it.
Her own question regarding his activities made him give a curt little laugh, "aa, ya! Of course!" Again, a laugh, "I mean, not like everyone does but my dad taught me 'cause like, everyone does it in the family." How to describe it though, "wouldn't say it was like riding like on a horse, you know? More like glidin' and floatin.' Smoother." He held up his hand to demonstrate, letting it just glide through the air, "Though, mother nature has a lot of say with surfin' and sometimes you luck out or sometimes you drink a lot of water."

She looked up at him. "I...I will try!" Gee she never thought of that. Deus wasn't really like riding a horse but...She could try to have some fun instead.
She smiled at his laugh, it was a nice sound. Contagious. His laugh was contagious in making people feel happy.
She blinked. "Oh, so everyone in the family likes to surf." She made a small pleased sound. She watched his hands as they formed a sort of glide and tried to imagine it. She totally could but couldn't. "Drink a lot of water?" What did that mean?

"For the most part, ya." Milo nodded then shrugged, "'cept my mom, never took to too many water stuff like the rest of us." It was maybe too much fun for her or something, he never figured out why. Didn't seem to hate it or discourage it, but eh. Wasn't for everyone.
"Aa, you know, drinkin' it like when the wave is gnarly and you get knocked inta the water. Sometimes they ever knock ya into the coral too, got scratched up a bunch too. Not fun." Despite that, he had to laugh. Oh the many times his feet were all banged up or he had a big gash on his side.
"Everyone in your family ride?"

"Oh?" Noemi cocked her head at him, "Maybe she liked the land to much, It was funner to watch from beach?" She thought it might be fun to actually watch someone else it do it, though she worried that maybe it would be scary too. When someone was so far out in water, like she assumed they were, and they fell off or something, it could be scary just watching.
"Ohhhhhhhh. Falling off." Noemi filed the term he used away, maybe she could tell someone else they were 'drinking it'. She winced at imagining hitting something like coral, which she assumed were like rocks. "But you kept going back in to ride the waves again? No matter how you got banged up?" She had fallen off her horse plenty of times before.
His question pulled her back and she made a small 'mmhmm' sound. "We were all good at riding. Cause we have to herd the animals too. In the winters we use the horses more for packing and travel because the snow can be tough to get through? Mami used to do barrel racing for fun too, and she loved to take care of the horses more then Papi did. " She pursued her lips, "Do...Do you miss your family Milo?"

Couldn't say no to that logic, so Milo just left it at that with regards to his mother's lack of interest in surfing. At least he couldn't say she never went into the water, that would just be a little silly when someone lived on an island, just didn't do it as much and did it with as much protection against the sun as she could get.
"Sometimes how you learn," he told her as he repositioned himself into something a little more comfortable, less leaning and more sitting up to give her a proper conversation again. Story time was a little over. "Gotta always keep getting back up and not let things slow you down, even if you get banged up, Noemi-chan."
Milo listened with interest to her explanation, humming himself as she informed him about how they used them. "Barrel racin'? That like when you go around them and stuff?" Seemed like a familiar concept as much as he would have probably seen on television or something. Still pretty cool, and he kept that in mind even if she touched on one of those types of subjects. The Sun let out a sigh as he thought about it.
"Course," he finally said, "feel kinda shitty too since I just.. kinda left, ya know? Like, they don't know what happened with me." Milo was aware that many of the other Hunters faked their deaths and gave their families some sort of closure, but he had been a bit of a dumbass and just... left.

"It's true. You cannot learn without first making the mistakes to learn from si?" She smiled into her arms, resting on the side of his bed.
"Si! Around the barells, you have to get..um very close? and very good speed while still looking good." She laughed, "My mom was a daredevil. She would always be fast and close, sometimes too close."
She saw that she had caused him discomfort at the memory, bringing her hands up. "S...Sorry, I didn't mean to upset you." She clutched her hands into the sheets, "I...I don't think I faked my death. I just came with the other hunter." Noemi nodded, "So...So I guess my parents wonder the same." She smiled at him, her hand reaching out to take his. "Thank you for coming here to protect everyone Milo."

Milo waved off her concern loosely with a hand, "nah, didn't upset me. Just more a realization, ya." Maybe it did just a little, since well, he left everything like that. But there was really nothing he could do about it now. Another thing to shrug off and move forward from.
Like most things. Like now. Milo squeezed her hand back and leaned over to sandwich her smaller one between his own. "Can say the same for you, Noemi-chan, thanks for coming here." Who else would be such an awesome neighbor across the way and just so fun to tease?
"So, your mom was the live dangerously one then ya? Was your dad like the grounded one?" The brunet mused, was the opposite for him if that was the case.

Still, Noemi didn't feel that great making him think of negative things after already accusing him of smiling so much. And being cheerful in the hospital room while everyone else was miserable. She felt terrible for even thinking that Milo should join them at that level. Instead of disliking him for it, she learned to respect him.
She smiled again up at him. For a just a moment....one brief moment you'd see the Stormy/Noemi Sass. "You're welcome."
She nodded at his assumption, being very correct. "Mami always likes to live dangerously. Papi had wild dreams but he liked the farm and he liked to work. He told me, after Mami had me, that they settled down more. Mami got into those Soap operas and novellas? She would show me but...but those were just so much going on."

And Milo really liked seeing that sass, even if it was for just a moment; he took a mental note to see if he could provoke it again later in the future. It was pretty awesome. He was pleased.
"Aa, ya, totally the opposite of my parents." He laughed, right again it seemed. "My mom got into all that stuff too, is really into like J-Drama stuff, ya." The brunet found himself shifting again on his bed, stretching himself out a bit on the mattress as he continued his conversation with Noemi. It was great, really, finding out a little more about his little neighbor, more about her family and how she grew up; and it was just a lot better than the deep sad stuff like when she got in. More pleasant topics even if they drudged up topics of the past, people they would never see again. But it was nice.
"Well, you know.. now you kinda can say you do too, ya? Living this life? A little more on the edge like your mom, ya?"

Noemi kept smiling, pretty comfortable with Milo know that she had learned so much about him.
"I guess! Though I am not sure about the soaps. I guess that's all Mami." She looked up as a nurse came in, checking on both of them and cocking her head. She had wanted to leave earlier, and now she didn't want to leave. It was strange but at the same time...
"Okay." She gave the nurse a nervous look, and then turned to Milo. "I think it's time for me to go back for real now." She needed to let him rest after all! And get rest herself! "I'll come visit if I can!" Later, or maybe they'd be let out. "S...So...Sleep well and maybe next time we can talk about other things!" She nodded.
"I'll see you again soon Milo." she waved as the nurse started to wheel her out.Chirigami OH HEY ANOTHER WRAP FOR US RIGHT? OVO

A nurse just had to ruin this awesome little chat, didn't they. Milo gave Noemi a smile, a little on the sad side, with a shrug when it seemed their time would be ending for today. "Ya, sleep does sound kinda nice." Had to agree with that one.
"See ya, Noemi-chan ~ maybe we can spar when we're all better, ya?"
