The old doe was almost out of the mud, now. Just a little farther and she'd be free, Melt hoped, though she had been strangely silent for a while now.

As she rested her poor tired neck, Maple had plenty of time to watch her rescuers and get their measure. The kiokote was fairly clever, and he could tie knots as fast as anyone she'd ever met. Which was less impressive than it sounded, since Maple hadn't met too many people for long enough to see them tie a knot, but hey.
The kimeti, while loud and exuberant, was of average intelligence, though, and... high-average or above average lust, probably, judging by how hard she was making eyes at the kiokote. "Eyes on the prize, eh, streaks?" Maple muttered to her with a wink. "I can't indulge anymore, of course, but I do regret not being able to get to know any of our fine cousins before I -" she went on, but forgot herself and started gesturing with one leg - the only one she'd managed to get over the sling - and tipped herself right off of it back into the mire.

Melt turned back at the sudden lightness and frowned at Maple. She'd been this close, this close to getting out of there. He rolled his eyes at her and walked around to the other side of the muck himself so she could climb back on the sling, then took up his position and resumed his effort to pull her out. "If I didn't know any better, I'd swear you did that on purpose."

"It's a good thing you do know better, then, isn't it?" the muddy old doe hissed.

The kimeti doe turned and looked when she heard the crone muttering. Her eyes went wide and ears flushed pink. She was just caught makin' eyes at someone else's boyfriend. "Oh I didn't mean to disrespect ya just..." The whispered apology tumbled out of her mouth. Light the Night did a lot of things, but encroaching on someone else's territory was high on her list of Don't Do This. She cast a furtive glance over at the kio as the crone talked, and a smile spread across her face. What a saucy old broad! The younger doe had to stifle a laugh but the laughing turned into a warning and then into swearing when the crone flopped herself right back into the pit.
"Ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffrogwhiskers! Aw damnit!"

Melt just kept pulling. He wasn't entirely oblivious to the furtive exchange, but he was a kiokote who was used to that sort of attention.

So close! Almost there! Light the Night leaned into the sling and gave it the last of her oomph.

"I AM NOT INVOLVED WITH THE KIOKOTE IN ANY WAY, ROMANTICALLY OR OTHERWISE," Maple yelled as she stood under her own power once more. She didn't think she had it in her to blush at anything anymore, but the mixture of embarrassment, humiliation and pure fury sure did the trick. She walked quickly past her rescuers and turned.
"I'm very grateful for your assistance, and I owe you both a great debt," she hissed through her teeth, "But it would be best if you did not come to collect it right away." Or ever, she thought venomously, but she had a feeling she'd be seeing the two of them again far sooner than she wanted.

Melt nearly choked laughing as he extracted himself from the roots tangled around his hooves. "But we spent a magical night together, my dear," he said, batting his eyelashes at her. "Are you sure you aren't too cold at night? As for the debt, I'm not one to leave old does to drown in mud." Though he didn't quite say don't mention it.

Ohhh ho ho she must have had a nerve hit, didn't she. Light the Night leaned forward with a grin from ear to ear. "Magical does sound pretty romantic to me," she crooned with a look. "Would have broke my heart to leave you there and have your boyfriend wonder what happened to ya." Teasing these two was a little much, but she couldn't help herself. The crone could pretend to be as angry as she wanted, but now the younger doe felt like they had shared a secret.
She flicked some of the extra mud out of her tail, but her hair was a hopeless disaster. She turned to the Kio and gave a mock bow of appreciation. "Thanks for comin' when you did, cutie. I'm gonna leave you two lovebirds alone. It was nice meetin' you and everything." She didn't mention anything about the debt - she can collect it later, if she ever does.
