"I don't. Can't say I'm all that great of a cousin." Or a friend. Otto wasn't much of anything. "So what was the reason?"

Bittiface [/quote He leaned back in his seat, considering it. He already made a bad enough impression, and Peyton didn't seem to be telling her family about what was going on. She clearly needed to talk to someone who - well, let's face it. Could talk better than Melvin ever could, even if Otto wasn't so eloquent. He at least held the basic fundamentals of not pushing a person too far. Something Melvin lacked.
He gave in.
"Because if her sister is here, it means her father is dead. Added to that, it means she has to worry about what will happen to her sister. Deus isn't exactly a happy, long life or a guaranteed one if you are in a pod."
His brow creased as he thought about his own sister and brother and then looked back over at Otto. "You should really keep tabs on your cousin. I would kill to have even one member of my family here - well, if they had decided to be here. Wouldn't want to drag someone into this hell-hole of a place after all." He still felt the selfish desire to want at least his sister here. His life would have been so much better.

He supposed he could understand that to some extent. Her reaction wasn't out of left field if that was the reason. The blond thought about it as best he could, but wasn't able to use his own family as a basis for comparison. He'd run away, after all. "I'll try and talk to her, I guess." He murmured, not looking forward to making a deeper bond with anyone. He'd promised himself and Nevada he'd not close himself away, but the fear was so much stronger that she was gone. "I only got to know of our uh.. bloodline after New Years." He mentioned, "So it ain't like we grew up together."

"Not a bad time to start. Any relative here is still a relative. I've only known some of my cousins for a few years and only met during the holidays, and they're still important to me." His family had been rather open, with all their relatives participating in things like reunions, holidays, and whenever some close by were free, just summer parties or going to lakes.
"I was very close to a few of my cousins who lived nearby and my Uncles and Aunts in turn." He smiled at the thought and felt his heart twist.
He adjusted the bag and clenched his teeth due to the sting. "How did you find out?"

"Um.. during that New Years illusion thing. I checked my records to see if any of it held merit, and found out who she was. I kind of regret looking." The teen grimaced bitterly, wondering if he'd have been better off never knowing. "I found out I have a brother on the island, and consequently realized I was adopted. So yeah, try and avoid diggin' up your past. Ain't fun."

He was a bit confused by the statements and well, he had to ask. "Do you not like Peyton? I don't know her well enough to make any judgments about the type of person she is. Just that she can punch like hell and has a sister." And no longer a father. She didn't seem similar to Otto in personality, but he couldn't really make a profile on her on just one bad encounter. If he did that, a lot of people on the island would fall under that category.
Funny how bad encounters just seemed to happen around him.
Happen because of you. You really need to get someone to help you with this. I think you are actually getting worse.
"I would think anyone would be glad to have someone close to them on this island. People aren't exactly close here. Having that connection is a special thing."
Despite Otto saying not to dig around, for someone like Melvin who did nothing but, he wanted to know. "How do you find out?" It would be nice to have a relative again. Someone he could talk to.

"She's... nice. It's just awkward, like, why do I have to give her the time of day just cause someone in the family popped out a kid?" Otto had quite the vendetta against obligations. Especially the familial kind. "I don't like making nice. We don't even have all that much in common." Connections were something he preferred to happen naturally, as opposed to them being thrown at him. His instinct was to batter up and knock them away. "Most full hunters have free access to their own records." Otto informed him casually. "As long as you got the rank, it shouldn't be an issue. Maybe."

Melvin's face became confused by Otto's clear dislike about the idea of being related to Peyton or even feeling the need to talk to her. "Because..she's family. Family is a very deep conection, Otto. They know a part of your history, where you came from, and who is connected to you. They might know things about you or the people around you that you didn't know about. They are also just someone to be close to." He really didn't get Otto's nose-scrunching at the idea of being related to Peyton.
"And popping out a kid is still making a person. A person like you. A person like me. Without that person popping anything out, we wouldn't be here." So yeah, respect your elders for getting it on, but just don't take the time actually imaging that nightmare fuel.
"You could find out she has more in common if you talk to her more." He said, giving a nudging suggestion. He hated to see families so close together in distance and yet not talking. It actually pissed him off a bit because he wanted that for himself.
As for rank, he sighed and turned his head. "Great. Now I have to wait for maybe never for that to happen. Know any other way?" Just in case he could try another route. He liked finding things out soon, not much, much later.

Ah, and now he remembered why he hated Melvin. High and mighty, presumptuous. So certain his way was the only right way. "Family means s**t to me, a*****e. Drop it." He never should have mentioned Peyton was family. He'd brought this on himself. "No I don't know another way. I already told you digging is bad mojo, dude. If you're so desperate, then just bribe Mark or some s**t."

He winced as he was shouted back, and was about to open his mouth when he heard Saliva rustle.
Do you want to be punched for a second time? Remember what Peyton said? Drop it means drop it. You pushed her when she said no. Push him and he'll hate you even more.
But why does he hate her so much?
I don't know. Maybe she's a b***h. She did punch you in the face.
I don't think that's it.
I know this is killing you, but you have to learn to just keep your mouth shut. You HAVE to keep your trap clamped shut, okay? Just for once or else you are going to never have a conversation with anyone ever again.
"..ok."
He looked down at the table, bitter that Otto hated his family. If anything, this was another chance for him. Considering the history of a lot of hunters on the island. maybe his family had been huge dicks to him. Then again, maybe he was just bitter over being adopted.
"You don't have to talk to her....it was just a suggestion."

"A lousy suggestions." He griped obstinately. If he got too close, she'd either get needy, or he'd actually start to enjoy her company. It was bad enough he had so many friends as it was. Tenya on the other hand wanted to check on Peyton. Mostly out of gossipy curiosity. Otto was more likely to stick her in a golem and send her off. Tenya loved the idea, and Otto wasn't so sure. "I'm sure she's got girlfriends or some s**t she can talk to. If she ain't talkn', it probably means she don't wanna." He raised a brow. "If your this pushy all the time, then you totally deserved that black eye."

"True. Still think she should talk to someone instead of beating her hands black and blue in the training fields." Though he wasn't exactly the type of person to suggest therapy when he only ever visited one person on the island to help him - and it hadn't exactly helped out. He needed a type of specialized help. Currently, that helped revolved around talking and not getting punched.
"I never said I didn't deserve to get punched. It tends to happen." At least with him. "Just need to figure out...when to keep it from happening again." He wasn't surprised he got punched after the fact, but he never saw it coming. He never got when someone was saying he was pushing too hard.

"When someone says Shut Up, or Stop? Pretty much means to zip it." As if it wasn't obvious. The fact Melvin might even listen to him was slim to none. The man looked at him as if he was an idiot half the time. "Besides, a ton of people here act out on the fields to let off steam. Ain't like Deus has a guidance counsellor." Not anymore, anyway.

"Yeah, and a lot of people die because no one talks about what pisses them off. I was just....trying to help." He set the bag down, his eye feeling way too cold and the moment. He was sure it didn't look good, and so he pulled out a handkerchief and set it over his eye to at least keep himself looking a bit better than he actually was.
"I don't want to just shut up when someone says so. I'm not 5. I still want to talk to them about it." He admitted, but guessed he was just facing a loosing battle all around. Maybe he shouldn't bother helping people aside from putting on a bandage or hanging over lunch trays in the Infirmary.

"You don't really come off as tryin' to help." Otto offered less than helpfully. "More like nosy. Even if the island destroys itself cause it's pent up, it ain't your responsibility to tell anyone what's good for them." Otto himself didn't really care to inform Melvin what was best either. Every word felt exhausting, making him feel irritable and anxious. "Then be prepared for broken noses and bruised eyes, buddy. Keep talkin' to pissed off people and you're asking for it." The teen tsk'd, turning down the hall. "You're so ********' arrogant."
