"Wonderful," Harvest said brightly, resuming her efforts. "I would love to learn more about you, and your travels," she offered a smile before picking up the bit she had rigged to help her with the plow. She pulled on it, flicking an ear at the smaller Soquili, welcoming her to speak some more.

That was fairly typical. Strangers always wanted to hear about her travels, especially those who were rooted in one place or another. They often wanted to hear about far off places and adventures. Duga considered for a moment before shaking her head. She doubted that what would interest her would interest this mare, so instead of trying to take a guess, she asked, “What would you like to know?”

"Whatever you wish to tell me," she said, releasing the bit to talk. "I find everyone I meet to be potentially fascinating, and part of that is finding out what matters most to each individual, what they choose to speak about when given an open field. For example, were you to ask me about myself and my life, the probability is high that I would ramble on for hours about my farm, and agriculture. However, I am aware that that might bore most other people."

"It sure would bore me," Polly squawked, "been there, heard that, or would it be herd that?"

Harvest ignored the small bird, or at least, gave a good impression of it, "However, I do not believe I have been ever bored by any story the speaker was passionate about telling, and somehow I would not wager you to be the first to achieve such a feat."

"Soquili have hooves, not feet," Polly supplied helpfully.

"Feat, as in accomplishment, not feet, as in what humans somehow manage to walk on. How they remain upright on such fleshy appendages, and only two even, why I would call it a feat of feet. Quite impressive and quite mysterious. I do not think I would ever care to try it, even were it possible."

“Humans have less mass, and they’re oddly proportioned,” Duga suggested. “Their front legs are so much shorter than their back, and some are mostly legs. They’re rather funny looking creatures, if you think about it, being all long and drawn out…” she considered that for a moment then shook he rhead a bit. “Honestly, I travel for the music. Different places have different sounds to them, different people. It’s fascinating to listen to how everyone and thing can harmonize with one another. You can always tell a happy place from a frenzied one, based on how smooth the sounds are versus how discordant they might be…” Duga trailed off a bit, smiling slightly to herself.

"And how do we sound?" Harvest asked with a smile, "Myself, Polly, and the land, that is. Are we pleasant to the ear?"

"Mmm..." Duga tilted her head, closed her eyes and listened for a few moments before smiling. "You have a steady rhythm. Not my thing, but not wholly unpleasant."

A steady rhythm. She nodded, and offered a warm smile. A steady rhythm. She liked that, it... suited her. Steady, like the soil under her hooves, like the turning of the seasons, like the hard work of the crops, like the promise of the harvest. Harvest. She was named for that point in the cycle, the moment when hard work was at last rewarded, and all could reap the benefits. And the harvest itself was steady. You got from it what you put into it. If you did nothing, that was what you found come the chilly months, if you worked hard, then the cool autumnal air was salve to the heat you generated bringing in the crops. Steady work meant a steady supply of food to last throughout the year.

"Thank you," she said softly, feeling the words sink into her, and take root in the depths of her heart. Steady rhythm. Yes, it suited her, and the land, wonderfully.

"Lame," the familiar squawked.

Perhaps the parrot.... not so much.

"And of course, your... friend... has his own tune," Duga added, wryly. The parrot was more of a screech, irritating, but if it was paired with the right tune it could be... tolerable.

"You better believe I do," Polly said, puffed up.

Harvest wasn't entirely sure that had been a complement, but if it made Polly happy, she was not about to turn that soil. She was content to let it be.

Duga managed to force a small smile. She wasn't going to burst the parrot's bubble. The last thing she wanted was to make him angry and cause that tune to get even harsher.

Harvest stretched and eased herself out of the harness. "I think I have labored enough to warrant a break, if you are still interested in partaking of some of my food?" she asked Duga. "I can see what I currently have stock piled. Mostly it will be early spring blossoms and the last of the winter squashes and berries, but it should still be ample to fill our bellies and warm our souls, I should think."

"Well, I did agree to keep you company until you were ready to take a break," Duga mused with a small smile. "I would be happy to take the break with you."

She gave a warm smile and led the other to the area where she and Polly usually took meals. There were some woven mats down that she had... acquired from some humans, that were more comfortable to sit on and place food on, than bare soil. "Feel free to sit and rest, I shall fetch the feast!"

Polly kept quiet, knowing Harvest might give her bitter berries if she spoke up before the food was apportioned.

Duga studied the matts curiously before finding a nice, cushy spot and settling down. She watched Harvest, tracking where she went. Duga didn't think that the other mare would try anything unsavory, the mare's song was too sweet, but she was curious what Harvest was doing.

Harvest went to the lean-to that she had painstakingly built, and rebuilt, over the years, and began to pull out foods that had been stored under it. First game bunches upon bunches of bright red berries. Then two small gourds, and finally some edible spring flowers in a dented old bowl that humans had tossed aside as unwanted. She brought all to the mats, and gave her guest one pumpkin, a spray of berries, and nudged the flowers towards her. She gave a spray of berries to Polly and kept the last spray, and the second gourd for herself. "Do enjoy, please."
