Splash smiled softly as she listened to the general whistle. More often then not, she knew he found himself in a position where relaxing was not an option. That's most likely why he attempted to flee the tower and become anonymous, even if it was only for a short while. He was more relaxed than she expected, surprising her by pulling the hood of his cloak down. Good. He needed to give his systems a rest.
They turned a corner which led to the main atrium. An impressive room, giving guests an idea of grandeur.
"I've never liked this room," she admitted. "To open, to many places to slip past."
From the middle of the room, she did a 360 degree look around. "All clear." she announced.

"Actually, I like this room for the same reasons you've listed. Open, don't feel too confined. Lots of places to slip away, or observe quietly, should the situation call for it."
Proto didn't like being cornered, or confined or...well, bothered in general really. So it stood to reason he'd like anywhere in this Tower that offered him the slightest bit of respite. Even if it was something as simple as a room that allowed a good amount of exits should he need that.
During Wily's stupid parties, he often did.

"Where it only all who lurk had innocent intentions," Splash lamented.
They continued down another corridor on the opposite side of the atrium. Lower bots busied themselves with various tasks for which they'd been designed. Some doing housekeeping, others maintenance. They did not bother to look up from there work at the two higher robots passed them, but mindlessly continued working day in and day out. Splash silently counted them, insuring none were missing. That would be sign of a malfunction, or worse, a thief, although she doubted with all seriousness any audio would be successful in stealing one of these bots. The recent fires, however, did open her mind to the vague possibility. It seemed limitless the things audios of flesh where capable of. Limitless, and confusing. They were such contradictory beings.
"They are like a little opera almost," she mused looking around at the different machines here and there.

Any thief that managed to break into the Tower and make it back out with any robot was extremely good. No, Proto wasn't going to let his thoughts drift back to the night the old Tower fell. That...was different. That had been a full on attack, not a covert mission to steal something from under Wily's nose.
Two totally different things.
"At least in here things run smoothly. One day it'll extend to every part of the City I'm sure... Until then it's nice to just have a glimpse of the future."
Yeah, sure it was a future controlled by Wily. But...was that really so bad? More and more Proto figured it wasn't bad at all. It sure beat chaos and fighting every day.

Yes, a home that ran smoothly made it easier to run the rest of the city smoothly. That was part of Splash's job. One day it would hopefully spread to the rest of the city, assuming the resident audios allowed it to happen smoothly. Honestly, this was for their own good. Robots could do far more harsh labor than fleshed audios, and with Dr. Wily's regular maintenance and improvements, the possibilities were endless. Thus the existence of the rebellion confused Splash, and only more so after...well, that incident.
"The future remains a good place to set one's sights. It helps make the moment more bearable."
The hall they walked down looped back around until they returned to the elevator.
"On to the next floor." She announced, pressing the elevator button.

Welp, back in the elevator again...and no sign of any of the other bots. Proto remained relaxed, moving to shove his paws in his pockets as they waited for the elevator to reach the next floor.
"...Splash, do you ever get tired of staying in here all the time?" He inclined his head, shifting his gaze to glance over at the guard.
"I know it's your job and all...but doesn't it get boring? It's dangerous out there, and sometimes I rather enjoy staying inside...but I couldn't do it all the time."

The question caught Splash off guard. It wasn't something she'd ever really thought about. She just...did her job and tried to look after the other bots that operated in the tower.
"I've never really thought about it...... I suppose one cannot miss something one has never experienced, but I do wonder what it is like down in the city. I wonder what causes the unrest among the citizens," She answered, looking back at Proto. If the citizens were so unhappy, why HADN'T they stood up with Proto? They had had every opportunity to.
She had another thought.
"As for being boring....you lot keep this job from ever being boring," referring to the various robot masters that called the tower home.

"They pretend that they are not happy...or maybe they truly -are- unhappy, but they are not willing to do anything about it." He was frowning slightly. The Citizens were...confusing. Always crying about wanting change and yet not willing to fight for it. Outside of a few rebels who caused problems, there really wasn't much the Citizens did. It was just like his stand years prior.
Hrmph.
"I suppose those who do occupy the tower keep it from being boring...." Also kept it from being truly peaceful....but that in itself would be boring.
Proto stepped out on the next floor when the elevator arrived, starting off down the hall to continue their patrol.

The citizenry provided a mystery which Splash was sure none of the bots could understand. No matter how complex the circuitry of the most advanced bot, fleshed audios remained a mystery. Then again, Splash herself had little to no contact with the everyday denizens of the City. Proto had much more experience, so she differed to his judgements on them.
She stepped off the elevator with Proto and continued her quick servey of each area they passed. She did not check every door, as trying to check the tower that thoroughly each day would prove far to time consuming. Rather, she focused on the broad halls and checked through any windows they passed.
"Yes, the antics carried on by many of the tower bots is most entertaining. Do you ever have a chance to converse with any of the citizens in an amiable fashion?"

"....I do, sometimes. It is not usually something I go actively looking for but when the opportunity presents itself I have. There are a few in particular I don't mind talking to all that much at all."
And by a few he meant two normal Citizens. That weird guy Joe, and....well Seven wasn't all that bad either. There were his brothers too, but they weren't exactly normal Citizens now were they?
"Maybe sometime you can go outside for a walk with me. Just a short one, so you wouldn't be gone from your duties too long. But...just a little walk to see how things are out there, hrm? I'm sure the others can't blow up the Tower -that- fast......maybe."

As Splash thought about the possibility of strolling through the city, the more appealing the idea became. She'd hadn't actually been ordered never to leave, she just didn't because she felt it was her place to be on constant patrol and on constant call, should the doctor need her. She thought it would be nice to meet the audios Proto spoke of.
"Hmm. I suppose on a slow evening, that would be an interesting adventure. Something different from the usual shenanigans of the robot masters," she mused.

"We'll plan on it then. Some evening we're going on a walk and see what the City has to offer us that night." Hopefully it was not a run in with Flashover...but he could always track down Joe or Seven. Or...just simply go on a walk. Sometimes that in itself was nice. Just like this walk tonight, even if it was only around the Tower.
This floor too seemed to offer them very little in the way of activity. The Tower was unusually quiet, and for a moment Proto had to wonder if the Robot Masters had gotten together for a party and simply hadn't told him.
....He'd be fine with that really, but they were likely simply busy fixing up their rooms or some other thing.

Splash smiled as they looped back around to the elevator. Yes, it would be nice to see the city, and perhaps meet some of the citizens. Looking down at the city from the tower was one thing, but to actually walk the streets she had looked down at for so long would be nice. Should they run into trouble, she was sure they would be more than capable of managing.
"Where in the city do you normally go? Is there any particular area you prefer to wonder?" She inquired as they walked.

“I just go to wherever calls me...no particular place.” He had his few places he liked to swing by. Sometimes the neighborhood he heard his brother lived in. Sometimes the neighborhood he had been built in…. He never stopped in anywhere, just slunk his way by and kept to the shadows.
Yeah, he had his usual haunts...but he wasn’t going to divulge these secrets to Splash.
“We can go anywhere. I’ll let you decide when we do, since I can go out whenever I wish.” Might as well let her explore what she wanted on her one trip outside.

"I suppose I'll do the same, and decide once I see where there is to go," She concluded. She was sure Proto would tell her which directions were unwise to travel. She wasn't particularly interested in finding trouble, just seeing the city. The elevator sounded, then opened. On to the rest of the tower.
