Introduction~

[continuation of this post]

"What. The effing. Eff." She groaned as she managed to stumble to her feet again, one hand on her aching head, and looked around her. They were outside somewhere, on some grassy field of some sort. "Oh. Well. That was not part of the plan." She was still looking around as she walked over to were Aria was sprawled on her back, and gave her a hand to help her on her feet. Agi was already standing, and Gina was brushing off the grass from her jeans. They all seemed equally confused.

"What... Just happened?" His voice was calm, and he wasn't really showing any emotion, but Kj could tell that he was concerned. She turned to him and shrugged, but gave him an apologetic look. "I have no idea. I think the portal activated on its own, or something, cause this is definitely not Antia." Gina groaned. "D'ya think? The hell did you do this time?!" Kj threw her hands up in a massive shrug. "I haven't the diddliest idea! It wasn't me!" Gina groaned again as she picked up her cap that had landed on the ground and brushed the grass off it. "Uhm.. Guys?" They all turned towards Agi. "It's in the middle of the day, right? It's light out. So, uhm, what?" He just pointed up, and the others followed the path of his finger and looked up at the sky, then just stared at it in shock.

They were looking at millions of stars, and what looked to be a couple of galaxies, and maybe even some planets. They were staring at a universe, and not a blue sky. In the middle of the day.

They all just stood staring for a long moment, no one managing to say anything, before Aria finally spoke.

"That... That's space. Why can we see it when it's daylight out? Doesn't that mean that there's no atmosphere? How are we breathing?" She felt highly uneasy as she turned towards the others with a somewhat anxious look on her face. Captain just shook his head, clearly having as much trouble as the rest of them. "There is no natural atmosphere. We are breathing due to magic. Wherever this is, it is a world that do not follow the common laws of nature that we are familiar with." They all looked at eachother, then at Kj as she let out a hmph that sounded as if she knew something.

"No laws of nature we're familiar with...? And I also just lost contact with my "guests". My guess is that we've ended up in a Pocket Dimension." Gina crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "You've mentioned those before. What, exactly, is a Pocket Dimension?" Kj turned to look at Gina, then nodded.

"We all exist within the plane known as Arcaiia, that's something everyone knows. Now, if you imagine the plane as a kind of table, most of the dimensions we know of are all placed on top of that table, while others are floating above it. Then there's the Underworld and those various places, that are directly beneath the table, hugging the underside of it. The floor, and the ceiling, are barriers that seperates Arcaiia from the other planes. Pocket Dimensions are worlds that are placed very far below us, close to the floor. In other words, they're closer to the plane beneath us, than the rest of the dimensions. And that plane, as we all know, is the Realm of Fantasy. The dimensions placed close to it are still within our plane of existence, but they are extremely influenced by the plane below, so everything seems to be working completely different from what we're used to! The laws of nature can be different, time moves differently, and basically all kinds of crazy s**t can happen. The Pocket Dimensions are in a realm of its own, really, like a pocket, which is why they're called 'pocket' dimensions. And, it's supposed to be impossible to get in or out of them."

"They're kind of like Noctemia, then?"

"Very much so, yes! Noctemia is a Pocket Dimension."

"Aha.."

"But, here's the the good news; for some reason, all the Pocket Dimensions are seemingly linked to Arcas by at least one portal. And, I just happen to have the key to that portal."

"Why aren't I surprised?"

This was one week ago....

"Get. Back. Here~!"

The young man let out a whimper and his hooves made a drumming sound as he ran across the field, hoping to find cover behind a rock.

"God, damn it! I'll skin you alive for making me run like this!"

Another whimper escaped him as he dove behind a large rock and started crawling along the ground, hoping to lose his persuer by slaloming between the many rocks in that area.

"Boss, I really don't think threatening him will make him want to stop." Gina crossed her arms while shouting at the woman persuing the poor creature.

"The b*****d is making me run, god damn it! I hate running." Kj stopped, leaning forward and resting her hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath. She really did, you know, hate running. It was tiresome, and when her life wasn't threatened in any way she saw no reason to do it. She looked up as she heard a yelp, and saw Captain emerging from between the large rocks, holding a terrified creature in on hand. She grinned widely and stood up, giving him a thumb up. "Nice catch, Captain!"

"Please don't hurt me!" Felder covered his head, flinching from the people that was surrounding him after he had, rather brutally, been placed on the ground. Kj let out a sigh and leaned down towards the... Satyr? Faun? Something else? She wasn't quite sure. "Dude, we're not gonna hurt you. As we've been trying to say for a while now, we just want to talk. If you hadn't fleed the moment we opened our damned mouths, you would've known that." She made a huffing sound, and he peeked out from underneath his arms. "Y-you're not gonna hurt me?"

"Of course not." She straightened her back and, with her hands on her hips, gave him a brilliant grin that made her turquoise eyes sparkle. "Look, all I'm after is some information, and, from what I've heard, you're the one to go to for that. Care to help out? I've got shinies~!" She dangled a bag in front of him that made a jingling sound as she did, and giggled very childishly at her own words. "Heh, shinies." She found it immensely hilarious that the currency of this specific word was literally named shinies, and took any oppurtunity she had to say it out loud. She just loved that word. Shinies. She giggled again, earning some weird glances from her companions - the hell was wrong with her? - and jingled the bag some more to hear the sound the shinies - hehe - made. Felder gave her a suspicious stare, but the sound of the money was too tempting, and he nodded and scrambled to his feet, bumping his hands together to activate his gloves. "Alright. Information I can do."

One week. That was how long they'd been trapped there, before they realized that looking for one tiny portal in a giant world was pretty much hopeless. It could be anywhere. And that was when Kj had one of her brilliant ideas - she was known for them, and for them not being as brilliant as she claimed they'd be, and how they often turned into catastrophe and disaster - but as things were, they didn't have much choice but to roll with her idea. As one who could create portals - and had her own personal one she could travel through to get anywhere - she really was the only one they could rely on on the matter. And her brilliant idea relied heavily on her ability to create portals.

Her personal portal - made from her own soul - could transport her anywhere, and wasn't bound by normal laws, but she couldn't take people with her. What she could do, however, was create normal portals for other people that were bound by normal laws, as long as she knew her way around the laws of the specific worlds she was creating the portals from. Complicated, and none of them really managed to get a grasp of the whole thing, but the important part was that she had an idea on how she could learn to create a portal based in this specific world, and send them home. Apparently, she needed enough information on the world to syncronize her powers with it - which, under normal circumstances, would make it necessary for her to travel all over this specific world and "tune in" to it, but, of course, she had thought of a shortcut. She loved shortcuts.

"Wow. He's like the, uhm, fantasy-ish, sort of, version of Mj." Gina waved her hand towards Felder as his gloves had activated and a bunch of holographic screens had surrounded him, covered in strange writings in some unknown language. The others nodded, agreeing with her statement, and Kj moved around to Felder's side, holding up a key with a USB tip on it. "Got a USB port, or something similar?" He just looked between her and the key, one eyebrow raised, before shaking his head and grabbing the key, shoving it into one of his screens. "Tourists..." He mumbled as he moved things around on his many screens, then let out a surprised "huh" as the information on the key popped up on one of them. "That... That thing has a lot of storage space. What is it?" Kj grinned, crossing her hands, and spoke in a proud voice. "Hehe, it's a little something me and my brother cooked up. Magi-tech stuff."

"What?! Magi-tech?! Is Mj dabbling with Magi-tech?! That is bad, and you know it! Magic and technology is not supposed to be mixed together, and we've all seen proof of that way too many times!" Aria gave Kj a stern look, and Kj just waved her hand at her. "Oh, chill. It's not that bad. Besides... Everyone uses Magi-tech. I mean, hello~? PortalHoppers? They're pure Magi-tech. They're machines creating magical portals." The group of people gained an uncomfortable silence, and Aria mumbled out. "That.. That's different." Kj shook her head. "Not really. It's exactly the same. What's different is how some people abuse the ability to create magic using technology. And, hey, don't get me started on technomancy! Point is, if things weren't meant to mix, they wouldn't be possible to mix."

"I hear that lover of yours is rubbing off on you..." Aria grumbled, crossing her arms, though she wasn't truly angry. Just... Slightly iffed. Her pride as a mage naturally made it hard for her to accept the thought of magic and technology mixing. Kj just snickered, completely ignoring the remark about the lover - it was an iffy subject, so it was best left untouched - then turned to Felder as he motioned for her attention. "Uhm.. What, exactly, is it that you want?" She chewed on her lip for a bit, thinking, before answering. "Everything. You know a lot about this world, and it's various places - I've heard the people here talk about how you travel around and gather information - and I need that information. All of it. Downloaded to the key." He blinked, not really sure how to respond, before nodding. One download of everything - coming right up!

---

They were all standing around Kj as she was focusing intensely on the key in her hand - now brimful of information - and they almost held their breath. Then she smiled - that annoying smile of confidence they had all learned to hate, and slightly fear - and held the key up in front of her. "All done! Thanks, Felder-thing. Enjoy the shinies - giggle - cause we're going home~!" And then she closed her eyes and called upon her innermost magic, forcing it to connect with the magic in the key, and activate.

A bright light surrounded the group, which then suddenly intensified as the very fabric of the world itself tore itself open around them, creating portals in the exac spot each and every one of them was standing in, and then vanished with a brilliant flash.

She opened her eyes, finding herself still standing in the same spot. She looked around, but saw no one but the thing, er, Felder. "W-what was that?"

She turned around and looked him, a slight hint of worry on her face.

"I scattered them. And I have no idea where."

"W-what?"

"I just sent my friends through portals that led to several different locations, and I have no idea where those locations are. I, uh.. I lost them."

She blinked, not entirely sure how to react, and looked down at the key in her hand. "Great. That's just... Great." Then she groaned as she made the key vanish. "Now I have to go on a friggin hunt across the dimensions!" Snapping her fingers, a giant golden key appeared out of nowhere - it was almost as big as her in length - and she grabbed it with another groan. "I am such an idiot."

Shoving the key into the air itself, she turned it around, creating a rift that became a swirling pool of magic - a portal - and then she jumped through it and disappeared, leaving a highly confused, and slightly scared, Felder standing behind in the open field outside of the City of Agrath. "W-what...?"

[continues here] [as well as here]

Just outside the city of Elgrat, a man seemed to materialize out of nowhere. He was tall with long silver hair that almost appeared white, and wore an elegant light grey suit. Looking around him, his face showed no emotion that could reveal his thoughts, and he then let out a short 'hm' as his eyes focused on the city in front of him. Without a word, he slowly started walking inside the city walls, making his way into the bustling city.

---

Just slightly south of the Fae Woods of Pelio, a woman appeared out of nowhere, and she immediately let out a groan as she saw her surroundings.

"Nice going, boss. This is not Kansas."

She sighed, then let out a yelp as her bracelet let of a couple of sparks and quikly put her other hand on top of it.

"Oh, that's just terrific. Magic-overload, of all things."

Looking up at the sky, she frowned, slightly confused. It was definitely the same sky she had seen before they got transported, but her bracelet had not reacted like this earlier. The magic density in the air here was thick - even thicker than back home. She was still in the same world, right? She scratched her head, then let out a frustrated sigh and she slowly started walking in some random direction.

"Why am I still working for her?"

Some moments in your life have the power to change it far beyond what you might think of them when they first occur. Jaketherian Thierry-Soutin was a man all too familiar with the concept, having experienced it first hand and seen his world thrown upside down.

He had been young, then - and romantic to the point of stupidity. Of course, it never would have worked out, the mere idea being as ridiculous as it was silly, but he had been in love and lost his head and he didn't care. Growing up in a strict society, where the difference between the upper and lower slices of social circles were as clear as night and day, he'd been a simple boy, living far from the glamour and beauty that was ever present in the lives of the rich. And yet, he had caught but a glimpse of it, and been smitten. From the moment he had first laid eyes on the Princess, his heart didn't stand a chance - he was completely and utterly done for. Knowing that he had to find a way to get her attention despite that they were worlds apart, Jaketherian had turned to every possible talent that he could muster in order to break through the social barriers, if only to just get her to see him. Somehow he believed that if only she knew that he existed, then maybe - just maybe - he would have the shadow of a chance.

For weeks - months even - he had tried every trick in the book. He'd tried to send flowers, poems, letters explaining his utter devotion to the girl - but they seemed to have a way to disappear along the way, even as he thought of more and more creative ways to deliver them. Finally, he was at his last resort - if he couldn't get his tokens of love to the Princess, then he would just have to go see her himself. Somehow, against all odds, he had managed to sneak into the palace gardens one night, and standing beneath the Princess' balcony he'd let his voice soar to the skies in a serenade that meant everything.

He got her attention, all right. Hers, the entire palace guard force's, and the King's. Jaketherian's serenade meant everything, because it changed everything. His mere presence was an outrage, a scandal, the thought that a peasant boy had the nerve to even think that he had the right to make himself - or God forbid, his feelings - known to the Princess an impossibility. When it happened, there was no doubt that he must be punished, the balance of the Universe itself seemingly at stake unless the order of society was restored.

The King wasn't without a sense of humour, though, however cruel one as it might have been. As his council urged him to sentence this boy to death, a quick hanging to have it all over with and discourage similar acts in the future from other hopeful souls, the King thought this lacked a certain sense of poetry. After all, the boy was in love, and he had such a way with his words and voice that it seemed a shame to have him executed. Shouldn't he, in fact, get precisely what he wished for - a chance to be near the Princess - while at the same time putting these talents of his to good use? So instead of condemning Jaketherian to die, the King chose to spare him, if by spare him one meant make him his personal slave. Specifically, Jaketherian was made the new Royal Court Jester, a position in which he was designated to entertain, to amuse, and to be the ridicule of all - and in plain sight of the Princess herself. Surely that was justice.

Jaketherian had hated every minute of it. Forever a joke to these people, he was the boy who failed. Forced to live his life in a place where he found himself a stranger, he realized to his dismay that even the rose-shimmering image of the Princess which he had held so dear was a lie. She was as distant as the rest of them - never acknowledging his suffering with anything else but a hint of amusement. He wasn't a romantic any more.

Yes, life so far had been a disappointment. Though he was good at what he did, it left him with little satisfaction - never having been his own choice to begin with, his position truly felt like the punishment that it was. He felt trapped, and there appeared to be no way out of it. Still, he pulled through - for what choice did he have? The show must go on, even when it felt like he had already died inside.

Keeping up the front of good work ethic, there were still some days where everything felt overbearing. Days when the weight of it all was simply too much, when it barely felt like he could breathe any more. Today was definitely one of those days. Jaketherian had been performing at a palace dinner - as if by chance, it was the celebration of the Princess' engagement to some lord's son or other. Being met with the usual waves of laughter that which although they hopefully instilled a certain degree of pleasure in those who gave them, Jaketherian felt the sounds hitting him like waves of tiny icicles, as piercing as they were chilling. He needed to leave the venue shortly after to go for a walk. Even though it was raining, and it was cold, and it was in the middle of the night, he felt like he just needed to get some air because there appeared to be almost none of it left in his lungs.

He didn't get very far - only walking a few minutes before it felt as if the world stopped, and he had to drop to his knees to avoid falling because everything was spinning and his heart was racing and he thought he might just throw up, or lose his mind, and maybe this was what it felt like to die and oh God he wished the ground would just swallow him.

And then, it did. If this was what it felt like to die, it was more beautiful than he'd imagined. He never thought he would see stars.

User Image In a middle of an evergreen tree ring, facing each other stood two figures. The first, a short girl with her silver hair laying on the side of her shoulder in a braid and most of her body covered in a tattered white-feather motif cape looked pretty beaten up, blood dripping from unknown wounds under the (yet clean) cape to make red flowers on the snow beneath.

The other figure though, looked fresh, not a hair out of place on his silver fur – for the other figure was a 4 meter tall half wolf beast half man, his arms thick as tree trunks and his jaw big enough to chomp a whole dog in one bite (not that he would, mind you. Dogs were such distasteful creatures). The only thing taking off terror points from that nightmarish creature was the fact that his face was boxed by a delicate looking white rimless cylinder hat (again with the feather motif) that looked very out of place on the beast.
The wolf-man gave a hard look at the girl standing defensively a few meters from him. Well? The girl took a calculative step back, and didn’t remove her silver gaze from the wolf’s golden eyes.

They stood off like that, staring, for another few moments. The silence only broken by an angry rustle of leaves originating from the edge of the tree circle. As the rustle grew angrier a little evergreen that still stood too close for safety to the creatures that were busy glaring at each other, reluctantly uprooted itself from the ground leaving a brown ditch in the ground that was soon covered white again by the falling snow (or was it more right to say rising snow? As it seemed to be generating from the ground and going up) and hopped his way to join the rest of the trees standing in a circle a safe distance from the fight.

The girl that probably had enough of waiting taped her food impatiently, making a few more drops of blood to decorate the snow under her.
“What are you waiting for you low breed fleabag? For the moon to shine out of your a** and lead the way? Come at me!” her words sounded a bit slurred, as half her jaw was swollen and red, mostly dislocated.
The wolf-man rolled his golden eyes and gave her a condescending look, intentionally aiming his stare to her dislocated jaw as if saying: again with the empty words? Look where that has gotten you so far.
The girl, looking insulted buy the wolf-man’s attitude gave a big snarl. “Well, I see. And why am I even surprised? You are a lame excuse for a garu, after all! It’s a miracle the falcon accepted you to its lines in the first place, GOLDIE!”

At the last word, the wolf man angrily narrowed its eyes and leaped.
The girls eyes widened at the huge beast arrowing her way, yet seemed to be stuck in place. The position of her legs spoke of running, running fast running NOW, but her chest was stubbornly facing forward, insisting STAY. She was saved from making a decision due to the fact that the wolf-man was already on her, tackling her to the ground with a load “OOF” sending snow flying all around them (the disturbed snow huffed indignantly and flew somewhere else where it will not be bothered) and rendering her unable to move with one big hand-paw that enclosed around her shoulders and arms. The small girl was sending hatful glares to the beast mounting her with her liquid silver eyes, and he in return narrowed his golden ones, closing his other hand around her knees so she could not move her legs as well for safety measures (she was sneaky, that one.)

Yes, gold. But all the royal silver in the spirit world could not help you against old Goldie here, now would it? The wolf-man was not speaking, but the message was clear as moonshine anyway. He gave a big smirk, the human expression looking terrifying on the huge wolf face, as it involved way too many teeth showing then it should be allowed to.

A shiny glint reflected in the girl’s silver eyes, and she gave the wolf-man a grin in return. He looked royally confused (the ONLY thing that could be royal about him, she internally huffed) and tightened his hold on the girl, suspicion sneaking into his eyes and shrinking his smirk. What are you grinning about you litt-

TONK!

The wolf-man’s golden eyes opened up to the size of plates, and he swiftly turned his head back to see a dagger poking at his back seemingly floating in the air by itself, it’s smooth surface reflecting the white of the rising now.
He gave an angry snarl at the dagger, which in returned quivered a bit and slowly out of the thin air, a snow weasel appeared, clutching the dagger between its small paws. The wolf man bared his teeth at the weasel, and the small creature high tailed into the safety of the tree circle.

“Ha-ha! Got you! I landed I hit! I WIN!” the wolf had turned back to the girl to face a pointed finger to his muzzle. (When did she manage to get her hand free?) The wolf-man gave an amused sigh and got up, quickly followed by the girl that tried to balance herself off her broken leg. (There might or might have not been an attempt of a slightly limping victory dance.) The wolf-man started to shrink, his silver pelt changing place with pale pink flesh and white cloth, the outfit being weird looking assembly of ceremonial robes and silver armor. (The feathered cylinder hat looked a bit less ridiculous on the human face. A BIT.)

Well, technically speaking, it was not YOU who landed the hit, plus, I said damage, not hit. And as you can see,” he turned around to show his clean, unharmed back “no damage was done. So your victory is not valid.” He took a few steps closer to the girl, looming over her, and lifted the tattered edge of her cloak, revealing the bloody mess that hid under it. He ignored the injuries, and shook his head mournfully. “when will you learn to take care of your belongings? This cloak was blessed by the falcon, you know.”
She huffed, and shoved his hand away. “Semantics. A win is a win” she cracked her jaw, the puffiness already coming down and the bones making disturbing clacks as they healed themselves and regenerated missing matter. The man was still looking at the girl, folding his hands and clenching his strong jaw.

“Fine fine! I’ll put some nosis into it to fix the tears once I rest a bit, k? Don’t’ be such a grouch about it.” She gave him a frown and he returned a satisfied smile.

“Well, get cleaned up and come to the great hall. I promised the alpha I’ll get you back before the ceremony begins” the girl looked at the ground and moved around some snow with her (now healed) leg. “Yea, I wouldn’t want to miss that…” if the man noticed the irony in her voice, he did not give it any mind. “Good. Make sure not to be late” and with a small bow he left the tree circle (which by now slowly started to uproot itself and go back each tree to its respective favorite spot.)

The girl inelegantly dropped herself to the snow, making the perfect picture of a sulking teenager. A small angry hiss caught her attention and put a stop to her sour thoughts. She turned her head, addressing the small pissed off weasel that was demandingly squawking her way.
“What do you want? It’s not like you been much of a help now did you”?
The weasel gave a sharp hiss.

“Ok, ok, a promise is a promise”. The girl shoved her hand to a pocket under her cloak and fished out a shiny, sparkly, huge ring. The weasel’s eyes shone, observing the smartly crafted detail on the ring – and more importantly, the pigeon sized diamond on top of it. He gave a happy chirp and stretched his paws forward in a manner that all but said “gemme!” the girl flicked the ring towards the weasel who caught it midair, shoved it between his jaws and dove in the girl’s cloak. She rolled her eyes at his mischief, and shortly after a small “burp” sound was heard somewhere from her garments, and a small, cracked and plain bronze ring flew out of the hem of her clack to land on the snow beside them.

The girl gave a sigh. “You could have just left it in the pocket, you know” she grumbled, and stretched her hand to pick up the ring from the snow. As she grasped it, something in the snow seemed to…change? She narrowed her eyes, trying to figure out what was out of place. It took her a few seconds before she could place her finger on it. The snow was falling down, not up! She quickly looked up to see the source of the snow, and the breath was stolen from her mouth.

Countless stars. Countless moons. Stretching out in their milky magnificence like it was no one’s business. The sky itself shone pale and bright, not minding time or place. Lara felt something in herself start to simmer and bubble (not unpleasantly) as a nosis supply that should have taken days to refill instantly regenerated within her, filling her to the brim and not dwindling even as she absentmindedly spent an impressive amount of it to fix the tattered cloak, the threads twisting and swirling around themselves with a satisfied hiss, runes shining bright blue runes shining between the threads as they form for a second, and then disappearing into the white feather pattern. Lara took a deep breath and got up, closing her eyes and breathing in the air that seemed to be made of nosis. It was so easy. Almost felt like cheating. Guess she won’t be arriving in time for the ceremony after all. She smirked, opened her eyes and took a first step to explore the new found area.

“Hey boss, you hear anything?”

“Hmm… no, I don’t think so, everything seems… wait. Oh for stars’ sake! PERIL!!!

Every worker on site immediately dove for the nearest cover, including the foreman who shouted the warning, grabbing onto whatever was bolted to the ground if possible.

Every worker save one, that is.

“I've got it!” the lone remaining contractor replied, glancing up from a little snow-castle she was working on. Refocusing her attention on the crane that was perched precariously on the half-finished music hall roof, and which was now tipping over quite quickly indeed, she began shouting the monotone words of a spell.

The falling crane slowly froze in place, like it had fallen into a lake of jelly, then began drifting away in the slight prevailing wind. Suddenly a worker, strapped to the roof like a mountaineer, lassoed the horse-sized crane with a rope and pulled it back to its position.

“Hey, you got that bolted down yet?”, shouted the foreman. After a minute he received an affirmative, and turned his attention back to the elven contractor. “Miss Aerasyphene… I’d like to be able to let go now.”

The contractor ceased her chant immediately. *CLANG-WHUMP-BANG* went several dozen pieces of small equipment hitting the ground. A collective sigh of relief was issued by the burly construction workers as they too, were again able to let go of the surrounding half-built building, touch the bottoms of their feet to the ground and stand up. A moment later a thin sheet of snow touched down as well, having built up in a dome along the top of the spell's effective area.

How is it that humans can pronounce my last name just fine after a couple tries, but keep mispronouncing my first, often at the top of their lungs?, thought Peril Aerasyphene to herself as she resumed work on her snow castle. Oh well... “Yes, sir, what else can I do for you?” she said inattentively to the foreman as he strode over to her hurriedly.

“Nothing! Nothing at all. We've got the crane in place now,” said the foreman. “And you know what? You've done such a great job, that even though you still have a month left on your contract, I’m going to release you from it!”

Peril turned to stare at him, grinning widely. “Really? Wow, even though I forgot about the crane..”
“Yes!”
“And all those barrels of wet cement…”
Yes!
“And the entire south wing...”
YES!
“But what will you do for lifting heavy obj… oh.”, noted Peril, as the foreman very emphatically pointed to the large crane, now bolted to the top of the structure. “Okay, well what will you do for making things heavier, then?”, she questioned, her eyes startlingly wide and honest as always.

The foreman sighed and pulled a sizable pouch off of his belt. “We never needed that, actually, but I guess we’ll just… dip things in wet cement until they are, uh, heavy enough. Here’s your pay for the rest of your contract.”

“Oh, wonderful! How about a letter of recommen… um, right.” Peril bowed deep, looking out of character for the moment in her formal work attire, almost like a respectable, competent task mage. “Thank you for being a wonderful client and please consider the Pelio Task Magi for all your future magic needs!”

~

Standing outside the construction site, Peril ponders. I'm pretty sure that went well! But now how am I going to get myself back to Pelio...? Or do I want to take a little vacation while I'm in Elgrat? If I go back to Pelio early it'll be without the rest of the task mages, so I'll probably need an escort... but my mom always said "Don't engage in snow sports alone. You'll probably find a way to drown or something, Peril." As she ponders, Peril touches snowflakes, suspending them in the air to make a connect-the-dot puzzle only she realizes is there...

Just outside the Music Hall Construction Site in the city of Elgrat, a sudden portal appearedout if nowhere about 7 meters above the ground, making the air around it ripple as it did, and a woman came tumbling headfirst through it.

"Oh. ******** Kj realized exactly how much she miscalculated the opening of her portal, she immediately let go of the large golden key in her hand - which vanished into nothing - and made a rather pathetic attempt at calling out her Wing magic to stop her fall. And pathetic it was, cause in her shock of finding herself a bit too far up for her liking, she failed in calling her wings to the right place, and she groaned as she felt them pop out on her ankles instead of her back.

"Oh, for the love of Pein..!"

She tried swirling around to get her feet below her and maybe stop her fall by getting her to fly upwards, and ended up like looking like some kind of crazy air-gymnast, which looked anything but impressive. She did manage to break off her fall - at least a tiny bit - and her slow tumble towards the ground gave her just about enough time to contemplate on exactly how much the impact would hurt her, and send a small prayer to the higher powers that no one was standing beneath her.

This was so not her day.

(OOC: Shortest intro ever, but I just wanted to get things going.
I won't bother with a post for Captain and Gina, or Felder, cause it's somewhat decently easy to figure out where they are, I figure.
Okay, ready, set go! The RP is now officially open.

lara sniffed the air. it felt familiar, yet kinda... wrong? the things around her seemed just as tangible as the surroundings of her home, but it felt as if something was missing, a big part of their life essence that should have been there. it's not as if the place was dying (as her senses told her they should be) or even weak, she could certainly feel the place emanating some soft yet steady power, even if it did not have that clear electrifying after taste of nosis usage. maybe that was the point exactly - that place lived on some other force, that had nothing to do with nosis and that's why it smelled so... different.

plus, the snow was falling all wrong, coming from some unknown source above her. she looked down, and poked a small mound of snow with the point of her boot, releasing a small amount of nosis. the snow danced happily around, stretching and squeezing around itself with life, but once she let the nosis go it slumped back down motionless on the earth like nothing happened.

yep, receptive to nosis but can't use it. interesting. will have to test more later. but first, where the hell was she?

she padded her way through the snow, reaching a wall of green that blocked the path. she stood facing it, glaring. nothing happened. she started to get impatient and gave a threatening snarl at the bushes. (insert a small squeak of protest coming somewhere from inside lara's cloak).

a soft gust if wind made the leafs rustle.

the bushes, otherwise, were not impressed.

"fine! have it your way, freaking... suicidal bushes! don't say I didn't warn you"... lara grumbled to herself, fumbling inside her cloak and reaching for one of her swords.

a few moments (and several brutalized branches) later, lara stepped smugly out of the uncooperative bushery, proudly covered with the blood of her beaten enemies. (she had a few leafs stuck in her hair, ok? that must have amounted to something.) and looked out off the cliff she was standing on, surveying the pristine white piece of land that stretched beneath her. (a small "ptuu" sound came from the inside of her cloak, followed by a tiny bite-mark covered leaf falling from the inside of lara's sleeve, dropping defeated on the snow)

it seems she was at the edge of a forest of some sort (suicidal forest, she marked as the name of the place in her memory) and in front were miles of snow fields. her eyes automatically navigated to town a shaped spot in the distance, calling for attention for spotting the otherwise smooth plains.

well, where be houses there be people. where be people there be food - I mean, there be information! yes, that seemed about right. lara nodded to herself and stepped to the edge of the cliff, considering. she could... no, that would draw too much attention. better go slow for now. she nodded again, happy with her logical decision. (goldie will be so proud!)

she sent her leg forward mid air, and then the other, jumping from leg to leg to test the balance. not as perfect as she was used to, but that will have to do, for now. and with that, she walked down invisible steps till her feet hit snow again, and started heading towards the city in the distance.

"Oh. ********, for the love of Pein..!"

Peril glanced up in the direction of the outburst, eyes widening. "A person in the air that I didn't put there myself? Or did I, and just didn't realize it? No wait, those are wings on your ankles, you must be some kind of amateur shapeshifter or something... how pretty! You know, you're going to need bigger wings, or lose some weight or something though, it doesn't look like you're doing a good job of avoiding crashing into m-OOF!"

Gracefully catching the descending angel with her face, Peril and the winged woman harmlessly tumble into the ample snow around them in real-life slow-motion.

He hit the ground with a large thud. It sort of hurt, which was unexpected - mostly due to the fact that he hadn't been expecting to feel much of anything at all. In fact, why had he fallen? Jaketherian vaguely recalled that he'd tried to avoid that by getting down on the ground voluntarily - but then, he had been in quite the state. Maybe he'd just forgotten about actually carrying it through. Yes, that was probably it.

Still, the fact that he felt like the ground had quite literally consumed him remained. Oddly enough, once it had happened, it seemed to have taken some of his earlier distress with it, leaving a sense of calm in its place that was almost a little bit reassuring. Well, except for the fact that the air felt so thick that he could barely breathe, but then he had had trouble in that department before it happened as well. At least it hadn't gotten any worse.

Rolling over on his back, Jaketherian felt the smell of some kind of grass come from very close by. Opening his eyes, he realized he was lying in it. Sitting up straight, he looked around him, a small frown growing across his brow. All he could see were trees. It would appear he wasn't in the city anymore.

Well, whatever it was, it wasn't going to make any more sense if he just sat around and waited for it to. Probably. Strangely enough, there was something in the air that almost seemed to hint it might, but that seemed to be too much of a longshot to be trusted. Instead of going for the hopeful attitude (seeing as how well that had not worked out for him in the past), Jaketherian decided it was best if he ventured out and explored. "Well, time to get going then."

Rising to his feet, perhaps a bit too quickly, he suddenly realized that this whole having trouble to breathe thing might become a problem - not only did a dark shade almost flutter before his eyes as he got up, threatening him that he might faint, but there just seemed to be a whole lot of pressure in the air - as if was walking in water (except, luckily, a lot less wet). "O-kay. That's interesting."

Shaking his head as if wanting to snap out of it, he muttered to himself. "Come on, get your s**t together." The only problem with that plan was that he wasn't very sure what his plan was - other than to go somewhere, but he supposed that would just have to do.

If only there was a city or some people around here or... Or something.

Kj winced as she heard the voice of someone, and went through a long string of curses, mentally, as she quite obviously hit that someone and they went tumbling down in the snow. Spitting out snow, she rubbed her hand and tried scrambling into a sitting position, but failed horribly and had another date with the snow - hi snow, I'm face, nice to meet you - before she groaned and pushed herself up.

"Oh, wow, that was so not the plan. I'm so sorry, I'm, I don't even know what the hell happened there."

She looked up at the sky and groaned. "Wait, what? I'm still in that same world? How's that possible? And how is it snowing when there are no clouds?! The hell kind of place is this, anyway? And, wow, how come it's so difficult to focus my magic? I swear, that portal was supposed to come out at ground-level and not bloody well high in the air like that! This world is crazy! It's driving me crazy! It's, wow, you're pretty."

Kj's ramble stopped as she finally took a look at the poor woman that had been on the reciving end of her fall, and she just blinked as she stared at her. Then she cursed as she made an attempt to stand up, and offer a hand to help the woman, which all just turned out as some kind of awkward fumble.

"I'm just really, really sorry, that, this, oh, it's just not my day today, is it? I'm Kj, by the way, and again, I'm so sorry for falling for you. On you! Falling on you. That was definitely NOT the plan. My wing magic totally failed, and ugh!"

She groaned as she looked down at her ankles, making the wings there disappear before she looked up at the woman again.

"Where the hell am I?"

Gina had made it to the edge of some forest, but for some reason she seemed slightly unsure about entering it. There seemed as if there might be something in there that she really wouldn't want to bump into, and she really knew better than to go against her gut feeling. She groaned as she looked down at her bracelet, giving it a light tap to see if it worked as it should, then winced as it gave off another spark. Well, it did work, but not quite as it should. She sighed as she looked up and into the forest again. Everything inside her told her not to enter it, and yet, at the same time, there was this odd feeling that she really should.

"God, damn it, I swear, I'll strangle that woman when I see her again."

She groaned as she slowly started walking into the woods. Snapping her fingers, the bracelet let out another spark, and suddenly a large dog materialized by her side. She gently place her hand on its head as she kept walking, and gave it a brief smile as it let out a small whimper.

"Good boy, Pinto. Just stay by my side."

She kept walking for a while, making a half-hearted attempt to stay as close to the edge of the forest as possible and just circle around it - she just knew that there was something in the middle of it that she didn't want to establish any close meetings with - but as Pinto lowered his head, ears laid back, and lowly growled at something, she gave up on that idea for a moment. With a wave of her hand, she sent the dog forward, then quickly followed it, every muscle in her body ready for anything.

Pinto jumped out of the bushes with a loud growl, and stopped in front of a young man. Still growling, he lowered his head as he got in a position that left him ready to strike at a moment's notice, but waited patiently for Gina's orders. She cursed as she struggled her way through the god damned bushes - it was as if the damned things were trying to grab her - and stopped as she saw the man Pinto was growling at. She raised an eyebrow as she inspected him, taking note of his strange outfit and makeup, and crossed her arms over her chest.

"And who might you be, if I may ask?"

Accepting KJ's hand, Peril makes her way to her feet as well, vaguely processing the newcomer's stream-of-consciousness questions. After a moment she holds up both hands, takes a deep breath, and starts counting off on her fingers. "Snow, maybe, magic probably, that's how Elgrat just is, a cold one, because you are yourself unfocused, crazy is relative, no I imagine it isn't, Elgrat." She still has one finger left uncounted, and leaves it and her entire arm up in front of her, smiling at it. After what seems like an entire minute, she holds it straight out in Kj's face. "Nine! That's three times three, very lucky! You're good!"

She drops her arm, seems to realize she's covered in somewhat more snow than might be socially acceptable even in Elgrat, and begins to dust herself off. "So... K.J.? Nice to impact you! My name is Peril!", she states, rhyming her name with 'girl'. "I have to say, if this was the Spell Identification section of my licensing test, I would have marked Option D: Randomly-Generated Dream Illusion, right up until the point you collided with me. I'm going to have to remember that just because something looks improbable, doesn't mean it isn't really there!"

Peril frowns, and stares at KJ. "Since you're apparantly real, you must be, mmm, some kind of neopunk rogue caster? You seem like you're in... trouble." Unblinking, Peril takes a long step directly towards KJ, putting herself distinctly in KJ's personal space, not breaking eye contact for a moment, then utters a brief phrase known to send shivers down the spines of her friends and coworkers: "I will help you."

Jaketherian felt like he'd been walking in circles. He could almost swear he'd seen that exact same tree half an hour ago - the only difference being that it now seemed to be slightly more... communicative. It wasn't that the tree was speaking (if that ever happened, he'd be sure to know he had finally completely snapped), but it still seemed to speak out to him. Currently in some tone of slight mockery, as if it found it almost amusing that he was, indeed, lost. "Oh, go to hell." He shot a burning glance at the tree, which must have been affected by a small gust just then, because the leaves started to faintly wave. Funny - there wasn't any wind.

Okay, he really needed to get out of here. Jaketherian had a feeling that if only he could get out of this forest he would be thinking clearly again - or at least, somewhat. He was calmer now, which was good, but then for a moment he considered whether he was almost too calm. If this went on any longer, maybe he'd suddenly feel so calm that he didn't even much want to leave. That couldn't be good.

He might have gone on in those thoughts for a while - possibly forever - had he not suddenly been interrupted by a for the surroundings rather uncharacteristic sound. That rustle was too sudden compared to anything he'd heard over the past few hours - there must be something coming towards him.

And then he noticed - or rather, met - what it was. Almost jumping back a little at the somewhat unannounced appearance of an animal right before his eyes, he stayed true to his somewhat curious pattern of conversing with non-humans of late, and addressed it. "Woah. Steady there, uh, you." The animal responded by simply growling - and engaging in some rather unfriendly body language, he must say. Perhaps this wasn't the time for diplomacy. Perhaps it was simply the time to run.

He’d only have time to consider the concept – though was leaning towards a favourable decision – when a woman stepped out from the bushes behind the beast. At that moment, Jaketherian found himself relaxing a little – a dog he couldn’t count on to be logical, but if there was a human with it then things instantly seemed a little better. That being said, the manner in which the woman addressed him left something to be desired. With a small frown, Jaketherian tilted his head a little, speaking almost contemplatively. ”I’m not so sure you may. I mean, I’d have to know who you are, first, before I could make a statement regarding such things.” Then, he smiled, hinting at that he may be slightly making fun of if not her, then at least the situation. And to be honest, he wasn’t finished. ”Though to be fair, I suppose I might be just anyone. Who I actually am, on the other hand…” He shrugged, looking up into the sky as if to gesture that perhaps that was one of those things that was up to some higher power to know (and or decide). Then, he seemed to be coming into better thoughts, straightened up, and continued in a more serious manner. ”Truthfully, though, I’m not sure that’s the most important thing right now. We should get out of here – or I fear I’m not even going to know who I am much longer.”

the first hour went smoothly, and lara was quite occupied with observing the weirdness of this new umbra pocket she somehow slipped into (for that is what it must be, she concluded.) after she had enough of that, she decided she might as well get accustomed to the wired smells as well.

after some fumbling inside the cloak, lara's hand came out holding a piece of white fabric, which she promptly tied over her eyes making sure no slit left open for her to peek from. once that was done, she started walking again, smelling the wind flow for direction, and cursing every time she snapped a twig or bumped a rock (is that how rocks smell here?! what kind of rock smells like elderberry?).

she went on this way for a time, the bumping and stumbling getting rarer as she went - the mocking snark sounds emanating from inside the cloak every time she smelled wrong the hight of a branch (OUCH!) or the width of a root (OHHPH! *spits snow*) only served as motivation.

three hours passed, and lara stopped her march when the smell of the town stopped saying "soon" and started screaming "now!". she untied the cloth from her eyes, and looked on to the city that appeared before her, a small semi useless stone wall surrounding it (useless ,as all the gates were open wide and welcoming, and if there was a guard going around, she didn't see any at the moment).

lara shoved the fabric back from wherever it came from under the cloak, and smiled at the hustle bustle sound of the city. well, it's time to find out where I am! lara told herself in satisfaction.

...and immediately went up a smell trail that sang about beef stew.

Kj blinked as this woman started counting on her hand while answering her, then leaned back as she held a hand straight in her face.

"I'm good? I'm good. I'm good."

She chewed on that for a moment, not really sure how to respond, then smiled at the woman as she introduced herself.

"Pearl, eh? Wow, that's a really gorgeous name. Nice to have impacted upon you!"

The woman kept on talking about some kind of identification liscence - wait, that didn't make sense, why would you need a liscence to identify something? - and she cocked her head to the side as she just stared at the woman, trying to make sense of her words as her brain made all sorts of shortcuts through them. Upon mentioning that Kj seemed to be in trouble, she just groaned as she was reminded of her somewhat unplanned situation. Trouble was an understatement. She turned to start explaining when the woman suddenly found herself in Kj's personal space, declaring that she'd help her, and she just blinked and stared at her for a moment or two before she threw her arms around Peril in a massive hug.

"Oh, wow, really!? Man, you are amazing! I could just kiss you! Which, would make things somewhat awkward, so I better not, I suppose." Kj let go and withdrew herself from Peril, scratching her chin as she gave a short, nervous laugh.

"Ah, well, anyway, you see, I just sort of had a little, I don't know what to call it, accident? Erm, yeah, well, something like that, I suppose. Uch!" She took a deep breath, trying to stop her rambling - god, she had to stop rambling whenever she talked to new people - and did another attempt to explain herself. "I am not of this world. As in, literally, I come from another dimension, and me and my friends accidentally got sucked here a week ago, and we've been trying to get back ever since. I thought I found a way to send us home, but I sort of ******** up something - not entirely sure what - and I accidentally sent them all scrambling in various directions through portals that I'm not sure where led to and now I don't know where they are. Kind of."

She sucked on the side of her mouth for a moment, just pondering on the situation, before snapping her fingers and a large, golden key appeared in her hand, and she glared at it like it was the root of all evil. "I think this is the problem. I just can't get this stupid thing to sync with this world, and I just... Wait, I'm unfocused?"

She blinked and stared at the woman as her brain randomly found its way to one of the answers Peril had first given her.

Gina raised an eyebrow as she stared at the man in front of her, not really sure what to make of him. Was he making fun of her? Or was he just plain crazy? His outfit was rather strange - unlike anything she was used to seeing back home - and he seemed somewhat... Odd. She looked around at the clearing, trying to make sense of this situation, before looking back at him. Maybe he had hit his head or something? Seemed highly probable, that, and she sighed as she rested a hand on Pinto's head.

"Stand down, Pinto. Good boy."

She gave him a light pat on the head, before she rest both hands on her hips and looked back at the man with a light frown. "Well, no matter who you are, I suppose I can't just leave you out here. Something about these woods seems... Off." A shiver went down her spine and she shot a glance over her shoulder as she could've sworn she had felt something standing behind her. Pinto had his ears laying flat on his head, clearly not liking the place, and Gina automatically brushed her hand passed her bracelet, then yelped as it gave off another spark. "Damn it! What kind of place is this?" She groaned, shaking her hand, and walked up to the man, stopping by his side as her eyes was fixed on the trees behind him.

Suddenly, Pinto started barking, and Gina cursed as she jumped to the side, dragging the man with her as she tumbled to the ground, pinning him down under her while just barely avoiding the large branch that suddenly swung towards them with an unatural force. "What the hell?!" She scrambled to her feet, janking the man with her as she did, and held her hand up against the branch as it swung back around towards them. Her bracelet sparked for a moment, then a shimmering barrier suddenly spread out in front of her, blocking the branch's attack. She gritted her teeth as she saw that the barrier started flimmering right away, and she spun around, one hand tightly clasped around the man's arm, and just dragged him with her as she started running.

"I am NOT fighting a god damned forest!"

She scrambled through the woods, pulling the strange man behind her while following Pinto, and her mind raced as she tried to figure out what to do. She'd been in all sorts of crazy situations after she had joined the guild, though this was undoubtedly the first time she had been chased by a forest. She mentally cursed herself - and her idiotic boss that had pulled her into this in the first place - then came to a full hault as they tumbled out into a clearing, and the trees up ahead suddenly started uprooting themselves. She stared at them, eyes wide with shock, then let out a string of curses in Charn - a habbit she had picked up while working in the guild - as she looked around them.

"Just. ********. Great." She ground out between gritted teeth as she pulled the man close to her, her eyes narrowing as she tried to calculate the best course of action. "Now's a good time for a game of what-the-hell-do-we-do. I'm open for suggestions!"

Before he could answer her, she suddenly shoved him out of the way as a branch came swinging down from behind, and she cursed again as she spun around, throwing up another barrier to stop the second attack. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the trees starting to make their way towards them, and she groaned with frustration as she dropped the barrier and lunged forward, grabbing hold of the man again as she punched her fist down into the ground. Her bracelet let out a spark at the very moment her fist impacted, and then it sent a ripple of magic through the area as the entire ground started shaking as she forced out a minor earthquake. As the trees dug their roots into the ground to keep steady, Gina whirled around and burst through the bushes, still dragging the poor man behind, and she slalomed through the trees as Pinto led the way again. After a short while, she finally stopped, leaning against a tree, and tried to catch her breath.

"This god damned place is alive!?" She shook her head with disbelief, then glanced over at the man, whom she had finally let go of. "You okay? Oh, and I'm Gina, by the way. And this is so far out of my comfort zone that it's just ridiculous!"

He slowly made his way through the streets, barely even glancing around him as he walked, and his emotionless face showed no signs of what could be going on inside in his head. He stopped for a moment, holding a hand out in front of him, and a glowing crystal appeared in his hand. He looked at it with eyes that still didn't seem to show any kind of emotion, before he let the crystal disappear again.

"oh! what is that big stone? where did it come from? it's so shiny! must be so full of nosis! oh, full, so full! lets grab it, yes! yes? yes???"

the stand owner looked apprehensively at the small creature squawking excitedly from its post on the foreigner girls head (a tourist most likely, considering she didn't even know the name of the city, and asked the most basic questions that every kid knew the answers to by heart), making sure to keep an eye on it so it will not go and bite at his merchandise after it bores of whatever got his squeaky attention for the moment. he just hoped the girl would buy something, after all the bother her pet was causing. she looked like she could afford it.

"I know, he gives me the creeps as well, with that sparkling* outfit of his and the perfectly straight heir. looks like a damn filadox, and you know how pretensions these assholes are, never stop preaching"

lara pretended to examine a trinket, ignoring the worried looks of the booth owner, while actually eying the white suited man that was examining a strange crystal in the middle of the street. he really seemed out of place, standing out like a sour thumb with his pristine white outfit amongst the other street dwellers who mostly dressed in warmer clothing, more fitting for the weather. not that lara cared about it much, but lesser spirits did feel it's effect at times.

"filadox? what filadox? this guy obviously is not even a garu, did a worm spirit eat up your brain?"
(the little creature silenced for a moment, as if considering. making a decision, he twisted his body downwards as to examine the girls ear. it seems he didn't find there what he was looking for, and resumed his squawking from the top of her head.

"you think so as well? I knew it. lets follow him, he looks too sleek to not be plotting something"

"wait, what? follow him? why follow? why? take the crystal and run! haaaa! and now the crystal is gone. lara? lara??"

lara stepped back, calculating the speed and flow of the people passing by so she could blend in with them (leaving behind a very confused shop keeper that had been staring at a girl that was not there once he merely blinked) and once she reached a shadowy enough spot she hopped up a roof of a building, looking down at the white suited man from a safe distance, jumping silently from roof to roof as not to lose him, trying to shove the complaining dodger off from her head and back to her robe as she did so.

hhaaaa! what are you doing? will you listen to me?? damn you ! you had the head of the silver fangies spirit wolfie as your language teacher, and you didn't manage to learn a single word of spirit speach?! arrgghhhh! (or, what lara heard - squuuuuueeeeek!) I'm going to take all your nosis the first chance I get and build myself new voice stringies just so I can tell you in your language how stupid you are! haaaa... all your fault... we lost the shiny... he took the shiny..."

and with that dodger skulked grumpily back into the maze of pockets under laras cloak he calls home.

ooc: *lara dear, please pay attention to what you are wearing before criticizing other peoples outfits XD

and! since it seems there is magic in the place which allows the traveling characters to understand each other, other characters can understand dodger while lara can't. they come from the same dimension, so if she could not understand him there she can't do it here either.
