The other female's maw-licking reminded Haiji just how hungry she was herself. And it seemed Ujuzi liked the sound of a hunt now before it got too hot. The feed would give them all some energy to trael a little today as well - although Haiji would have to help build up Haveo's stamina, he appeared unaccustomed to alot of walking.

"What about you Haveo? Feeling hungry?" She asked him.

Haveo looked at his new packleader confused. Hungry? The time alone did cause his body to change. "I suppose. I only feel hunger pains when I see prey really..." He had admitted the truth. As he recalled, his stomach only grumbled when their was potential prey around. It was not in his nature to eat scraps, but in desperate times he had.

A hunt. That would prove that he was useful. It may tire him out easily but running on pure adrenaline had been the way he hunted alone in the past. After eating he would usually find a bush to collapse from it. Perhaps he could finally take a nap in the sun or some mud after hunt. A feeling of relaxation went through his body. Yes, that would be nice.

Haiji gave him a little nod. She could understand that. When standing over a new kill she could almost taste it while she was still only looking at it. That was when you really felt your appetite.

"Alright." She said, looking at them both. "Let's go find a scent." And with that she began to trot off at an easy pace, slowing every so often to sniff low to the ground for a wiff of a grass-eater.

Haveo gave a stern nod. The small talk was enough for him to regain his breath and that was it. The adolescent followed behind his leader, ears trained all around him. His hearing had improved during the time he was alone. Every small scratch and every little thump could mean a meal or death. Indigo eyes closed and he depended on his hears, almost as if he we blind.

The rustle of grass were his pack mates, only their bodies could make that kind of noise. His feet were silent upon the ground. Silence would make a meal. A small thump. He froze, both ears turning towards the source. It was a hollow sound. It wasn't a meal. But whatever caused the fall could be. He was hoping his other pack mates heard it too.

Since she was walking ahead of Haveo she didn't see him using his technique to enhance his hearing. It would have been logical to her though she may question about how one was supposed to walk without bumping ito things. But at such a slow pace and with her in front that shouldn't be much problem.

As she walked with Ujuzi and the new male she did suddenly hear the thud noise and she paused, ears up and forward towards the direction of the sound. Looking around at the other two she spoke quietly to Haveo. "What do you suppose that was?"

"Too hollow to be a meal...even fresh bones make harder sounds. Though...whatever caused it may be." Haveo's eyes were shut again, his ears straining forward to hear. He crouched down lower to ground trying to feel the fading vibrations. There were many, quick beats. They they were solid, so that meant the the creature...or creatures, were not light of foot. Gazelles were off the list.

Again, he listened. It was a large number of them, and their weren't caring of the noise that it made. The crossed off any sort of predators or the larger animals. His mind raced, there were surely only a few choices left. He stood up, head held eyes, using only his eyes to scan the horizon.

There. Upon the horizon lay a large mass of grey, black, and brown. Wildebeasts. They were just passing. His violet eyes sharpened. Straglers; that meant a meal. He kept his eyes trained on them, this was too great of a chance for others too. If lions were in the area, their pack would surely be unable to compare.

She followed behind their alpha and mostly alongside the male, keeping her ears alert and her other senses keen. She caught notice of Haveo's method from the corner of her eye, and though she understood and found it impressive (It was probably most effective), she said nothing. Every so often her nostrils would flare a bit to take in as much scent as possible, and she'd take a wiff of the grasses and the ground as they went. Her head was down when they heard the noise which caused her body to go ridgid. She lifted her head cautiously in hopes that they wouldn't startle whatever it was that made the sound-- it could be breakfast.

~Wildabeasts...~

Ujuzi hadn't seen very many of them in her lifetime, usually just in passing when she did, and more often than that they were on the move. Now that they'd spotted their potential prey it was time for a little more in depth information gathering.

There was a faint scent in the air, feline, lions? The scent was older, perhaps lions had been hunting this area already, maybe even this very herd. There might yet be some lying downwind however.

Ujuzi didn't take her eyes off of their surroundings, but instead continued to survey the area as she spoke.

"Seems like we have a 'winner'?"

The young alpha watched in the direction the sound had come, glancing now and then to her pack mates. Ujuzi was alert and Haveo seemed to be trying to focus on the sound and their surroundings. Haiji had to pull her gaze from watching him in fascination to look about herself.

And then they came into view, the faint sound of hundreds of hooves preceeding them... wilderbeast. Haiji's ears flickered back and her face looked serious. Wilderbeast could make a good meal, but they were dangerous... even deadly, as she well knew.

"A winner... maybe. Wilderbeast are hard to bring down and there's only three of us. If we could find one that's lame or quite young...." She surveyed the herd as best she could from this distance. "Lets move around the back of them and see if we can find any. Watch out for other preditors though too."

Setting off, she stayed low and hidden in the taller areas of grass. Her tail hanging down and her ears laid back, she peeked at the large number of herbivores as she moved closer.

Haveo nodded and followed his leader. This time he kept his eyes sharp. Any other ruffle of the grass that wasn't them could mean their deaths. His ears twitched as the rumbling only gained in volume. Would lions really come this far? He wasn't sure but he wasn't going to risk it.

Another snap. This one was close. He froze and silently fell to the ground. Violet eyes were pinned to the direction it came from. Steps. Quick steps. Running steps. Their direction changed. He stood looking for whatever it was. His head was moving back and forth. He heard it again. Too close!

He was barely able to scamper out of the way of hardened hooves and a thrashing grey head. A straggler! A liquid was on his lips. A tongue darted out, tasting it. Blood. He wasn't in pain...but that one was.

Hunger came over him and he dashed towards the slowing prey. His mind was clouded as he rushed after it.

User ImageUjuzi was sadly not entirely certain on what had just transpired. Had that wildabeast already been injured, was that why it was lagging behind the others? No time to question!

Ujuzi looked to Haiji questioningly, ready to follow at so much of a batting of the alpha's eyelash. She was eager to go to Haveo's aide and ensure the prey wouldn't escape, but didn't want to leave Haiji behind either.

((Sorry for the delay here too guys, |D; *bricked*))

(( No worries Tahja. Perhaps after this hunt (and maybe the evening when they fall asleep) we should wrap it up and start a newer one? There's Kengee to meet and Giza too. 3nodding And I wouldn't mind some one-on-one rping with new pack members so they can get to know one another better. ))

The fast approaching hooves of the lagging wilderbeast made Haiji whip round to see it. Because it had been downwind of them (as they were downwind of the herd) it hadn't been picked up quicker with her sense of smell.

Her eyes widened as to came hurtling at them and she leap clear away as behind her Haveo had his own very narrow escape. Breathing heavily with shock and surprise, Haiji looked back and saw their new male friend hadn't missed a beat in chasing after the prey animal. Ujuzi was unscathed too and the alpha saw her waiting, keen for her reaction and approval to go after the beast too.

It would take a little while for Haiji to find such command second nature but there was no time to reflect on that now. "Quick!! Before it reaches the rest of the herd!" She shouted, her tone exposing her excitement and encouragement to her packmates. It was something her mother had done with her, encouraging her and enjoying their shared success after a successful hunt. Haiji hoped that maybe it could be the same with these new 'family' members.

((Ooo that sounds like fun. 3nodding ))

Haveo moved as quick as his weakened body possibly could. His chest burned, his heartbeat was heard in his head, but he wasn't concentrating on his body at all. His twitched when he had finally heard his pack leader speak. He'd have to at least slow this beast down.

The wildebeast started to quicken. Seeing a group must've made it want to be out of danger. If it got too close the herd might assist it! The male couldn't fail this hunt.

Violet eyes darted all over the prey's body looking for the injury. It was somewhere near the front. He growled, that would make things harder. He checked the horns of the wildebeast, still there, still dangerous. His hunger driven eyes looked forward, there wasn't anymore time!

Haveo sped up, two of his strides matching one of the wildebeast's. He moved faster. Eyes of prey versus predator met. Within that instant, Haveo leapt up, his jaw wide open. Just as fast, it closed around some part of the wildebeest. He wasn't sure. The adolescent kept a tight grip as the wildebeast began to thrash about, trying to throw him off. This was good enough, all he needed to do was just hold on.

The large graving animals near the back of the herb shifted and shuffled, letting out their low moans as the sprinting dogs worried them. Hopefully their darting movements and growls would make them think there were more than just three of them, Haiji thought to herself. To try and enforce this idea she yapped and growled as she ran forward.

But Haveo had done the work of stopping the beast they had picked out. By leaping atop it and biting down he'd forced the creature to pause it's running and focus on trying to shake him off. It was an effective strategy but a very dangerous one, and Haiji found a lump in her throat as she imagined him getting killed.

Spurred on by this she ran up to his aid, assuming Ujuzi was right behind her. Upon reaching the locked preditor and prey, she darted around them snapping at the wilderbeast's legs. At last one of her bites managed to find a spot which caused the prey to stumble and lose it's balance. It crashed to the ground on it's side. Haiji could only hope Haveo hadn't been under it at the time.

((@______________@;; sorry for such a long wait you guys, *lost her Ujuzi flow and concentration for a while there* sweatdrop ))

User ImageUjuzi kept her body as streamline as possible as she followed Haiji and Haveo. Her path was a beast span apart from the other female but no paces behind by any means. When Haiji attacked the creatures legs Ujuzi was right beside her, leaping at the beast's flank. Her jaws snapped down on it's back, claws scrambling, digging in as well as they could for any kind of grip. Her weight and momentum combined with Haiji's jaws around it's leg and Haveo's weight and persistance was enough to throw the creature to the ground.

Ujuzi kept as much of her weight on it's legs as possible, lest it kick any of them. The front legs would have to be Haiji's department, it seemed that either she (Haiji) or Haveo would have to make the kill.
