"Our mom died when we were young, and our dad never really recovered from it, so I took care of her. I cooked, I got her dressed for school." She was still staring down the row of pods past Jordan's shoulder. That shocked joy had hit home, driving that stabbing guilt just a little further. "I'm sure he's sorry," she dropped into the quiet. "For leaving, for making you have to live through his death. I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt you like that." Pale eyes jumped back up to the senior Sun hunter. "I'm sure he had a good reason."

Jordan nodded. "I know what you mean," he said quietly. Their families were more alike than he'd known, and he felt a deep sympathy for her. "Our mom didn't like to let it show how sad she was, but sometimes she needed more help. Some things Dad did, we just stopped because that was his and it felt wrong." He checked the hair tie on his ponytail, the thought coming naturally in sequence; he'd let it get long in the first place to annoy his dad while his dad was still around, and had then just kept it, after. Her apology wasn't really for him. "I know," he said gently. "It's okay. I'm -- I carried that around for a while, and I don't really know what to do with the place where it was. But I'm not mad." He pulled her into a brief hug, arms around her shoulders. "She'll forgive you. I know she will."

If anyone would know how Astrid might feel coming out of that pod, it was Jordan. When he hugged her she stiffened, startled, but after a second she relaxed into it, leaning against him as he reassured her. The apology was as much for him as it was for Astrid, Because Joradan's brother wasn't awake to say it, but if he had been, she belied he would.

"They'll wake up," Jordan said, and let her go after a moment. "Soon, I hope." An article of faith, perhaps. He didn't know if it was true, but he was going to choose to believe it. Andy would be up and around and there again. It would happen.

She nodded as he let her go, and her hands moved to sink into back pockets. "Yeah." Astrid was strong, stronger than Pey gave her credit for sometimes. Smiling, she looked past Jordan's shoulder towards the row of pods she'd been aiming for before running into the senior Sun. He'd been on his way out, presumably having already finished his visit with his brother. "I won't keep you, you've probably got things to do." She wasn't trying to shake him, just give him the option of an easy exit if he wanted to take it. If Jordan wanted to stick around he was more than welcome to.

"Got another ten minutes, but if I want to eat, yeah," Jordan agreed with a small smile, recognizing and appreciating the offer; he still felt a little more shaken than he liked to admit, and he needed some time to process what he'd seen, what he'd said. He could probably slide the conversation into small talk or less awkwardly personal avenues, but he wanted some time to think. "Good luck," he said, and turned to head out with a small, slightly abstracted smile and a wave.

Peyton returned the wave and smile, breath coming in a small sigh. "You too. See you around." Jordan understood. Better than most. She couldn't explain why, but knowing that made her feel better about the whole situation.
