He had already dove into the memory, but the mistake was that he had only really done so around Billy, and not by choice. It had been a personal policy not to forget what had happened, but to not think hard on what had happened. To not dive deep to figure out every small detail that might have been lost, or to remember smells or the sound of muffled footfalls leading to a small cell. It wasn’t good to dwell on the sinking feeling that came with hearing the clang of a metal chair hitting the ground in the distance, or a sudden scream that was followed by laughter at someone’s expense, shaking you from your heavy, blurred consciousness to feel your heart pounding and looking about without the ability to run. To have your instincts tell you to run, flee, and protect yourself, and the pain of sharp daggers digging up through your very bones as the chains dug into your legs and tore into red, bleeding flesh as you remained strapped to your chair. How your tailbone felt like sitting on a knife and your back seemed locked in place that every time you were hit in the face, punched in the gut, and your chair jostled just a bit, your entire body felt the pain vibrate through you like bits of glass.

The smell of metal. The smell of blood. The smell of his own body from the cold sweat. The cold hollowness and forgotten age of the cell he was kept. The noises. The passing shadows under his cell door, and the smallest upturn of a smile from the senshi who guarded him at all hours in shifts. Shifts to get rest. Shifts to get water. Food.

He’d never felt hunger like he had before then. The way your stomach turned itself inside out, let its acid turnabout like a boiling pot, frustrated as it tried to digest itself and bubble up through your throat as it died itself in knots. How your lips cracked, tongue turned into rough leather in your mouth, and you wished you could lick even your skin to get something in your mouth to drink. You even wished to be punched in the face hard enough to taste blood.

He could smell burnt skin, feeling the hot flames lap against his face, blistering about his ears. Skin popping.

His eyes went wide as he looked up, registering that Buddy was here, talking to him, his face alight with orange light but distant among the screaming. The memory of his screaming.

It's alright, Wolfy. They're not here, and they're not going to hurt you. Not while I'm around...

“They’re not gone. They’re not gone. They’re going to come back, and who is going to protect you?”

They weren’t gone. They were still here. They would come back.

It was so dark here. Dark.

He took deep breathes, trying to regain his bearings. Buddy was here. Buddy was here. So that meant – he was part of the rescue party.

His eyes went up, but he couldn’t see starts, but he was outside. Outside meant open.

He looked up, expecting to see the great wings of a black bird.

“I can’t see her.” He managed through short breathes.

"I can't see her."

Buddingtonite had no idea who he was looking for, or what. What little that Wolframite managed to tell him should have been enough to help him, but Buddingtonite could think of nothing to soothe him. Despite his drugged state, he knew that it was a delicate situation, and he also knew that he was not the one to handle it. No, he was delicate as well. No where near as delicate as Wolframite, apparently, but it would be like the partially blind leading the completely blind. He tried to think what others would have done. Serpentine or Mica would have handled this better... perhaps he should have called them, before Wolframite's condition got worse?

Because in all honestly, Buddingtonite... he was broken, and he knew it. He had to have been broken to take on the branding, to have spoken out against the General-King, to have asked poor Wolframite to recall any of those memories. He was broken, and what could he possibly think he could do to help Wolframite? He couldn't even help himself!

Don't let your act fall. Don't let them see the cracks in your mask, or it's all over.

Finally, he grabbed at Wolframite's arms and gave them a firm squeeze, hearing Wolframite's cries and uncertain if he was talking to him or some imaginary figure he was hallucinating, though since when did Buddingtonite keep his mouth shut or care? "I have friends within the Negaverse to protect me. Serpentine, Benitoite, Turquoise... Mica, even, though she'd never let me live it down. But I have friends here, and I'm absolutely certain that you do too. I'm not sure who, but... you have me, which by proxy you have Serpentine. You have friends... even if I cannot name them off the top of my head."

He was looking for something, something that Buddingtonite didn't have, and Buddingtonite could not help but cast him a curious look. "Who can't you see, friend? Who is the one you're looking for now?"

He was grabbed, and the action made him tense, but it was the touch to reality, to something solid, and pulled him out. A slow dark fog that lifted and dissolved the aches and sounds from the distant memory that was still so vivid to him that he could still smell the odor of brunt skin and hear the sound of a blade cutting through the body before the blood poured.

He took deep gasps, a cold sweat dotting on his brow and soaking his undershirt. His hands were shaking, and he looked up as Bis was talking to him. It was then that he really noticed he had been talking to him all this time.

“Tanzanite.” He answered, the memory of the great, black bird fading from the forefront of his vision as the real world came back into focus.

Taking more deep breathes, he dragged the back of his arm over his brow to mop up the sweat and looked at the arms on him and then at Buddy. He’d paniced, and it was clear that Buddy was shocked too – by how he acted. “I’m sorry. I….lost…..” My mind? “….my thoughts.” And found old ones.

Buddingtonite had no idea who Wolframite thought he was seeing when he finally looked up at him, and all he could hope for was that it was a friendly face he saw and not one of the ones that had captured and tortured him. Wolframite may have been reduced to a lieutenant, but Buddingtonite was never the fighter and he was in no condition to defend himself. Maybe offering him some of his medication was a good idea after all...
His touch softened ever so slightly when it was clear that he had Wolframite's attention again, and he rubbed those arms, hoping that the motion would be both soothing and would provide some warmth for him. He spoke softly, nothing at all like the sensual purrs he'd often spout when he addressed others in this tone of voice. No, he wasn't sure what would help Wolframite right now, but he was certain that flirting him with would not have helped. Might have made it worse, and he wasn't going to test that theory.

Buddingtonite wished he had met this Tanzanite, if only to get a good idea of what Wolframite was seeing. Unfortunately, all he had to go by with was heresay, and he couldn't even pretend to imagine her from what little he knew of her and was told. "I am sorry I'm not Tanzanite, Wolfy. And I know that I could never be Tanzanite, but I'm here for you, alright? I can't be Tanzanite, but I can be Buddingtonite. Maybe not as cool, but... it's something, right?"

Wolframite's apology was unnecessary, and it wasn't like the rose-clad general to shrug it off. No, all of his thoughts were getting Wolframite to a safer place and a calmer state of mind. "If anyone should be apologizing, it should be me for bringing it up. How about I take you home, or wherever you may dwell? I think you've had enough of me for one day..."

Sorry I took so long. :C
Wrap?

He frowned and looked away. "No one could be like her. She was......something special." But he slowly looked up at the officer. "But that's doesn't mean you're not great the way you are." Even if Buddy suffered from a being a bit too talkative against authority. Considering Wolframite's currently feelings about Zinkenite, he didn't exactly hate that quality at the moment.

As the mention of going home, he nodded. "Yeah....I probably should." He hadn't even done anything, and yet he felt drained and exhausted. He got up slowly but then looked down at the ground below and though about the walk home. He wasn't a General anymore and even a walk home was more dangerous these days.

"Um...if you don't mind." He sadly had to be dependent on many others now else he risked being jumped by a senshi.

Buddingtonite knew himself to be egotistical and he always longed to be the center of attention, but even he knew that there were some things that he could never hope to be. Whoever this Tanzanite was, he knew that he could never be her, nor could he replace her in Wolframite's eyes. And in all honestly, he didn't want to. He was Buddingtonite, for all of his strengths and flaws, and he could never, ever think to be anyone else. Even if he wanted to be, even when he tried to become someone else, he was simply Buddingtonite. Buddingtonite forever. So, it was easy to accept defeat in those regards.

"Of course I'm great! We're all great, in some manner... some are just naturally greater than others. I've come to accept my own greatness and how they may differ from another's greatness, so no worries there." He flashed Wolframite a harmless wink, just to let him know he meant no hard feelings. He was relieved that Wolframite was quick to accept his offer, though putting one's life in the hands of a drugged up Negaverse general was hardly an ideal decision for picking a designated driver. Surely he could handle teleporting from point A to point B, right? He placed a hand on Wolframite's shoulder, giving it what he hoped he'd consider to be a comforting squeeze before whisking him away. "First class ticket to Wolfy's home... please, no tips!"
