Damnit! He had seen through Joe's disguise again! Stupid blood! He growled in frustration. "It was! How did you know?" Even if the blood was a dead giveaway, what had alerted the general he might be here at all? And how had he chosen him out of all the rest to make the target? Was it really just a coincidence? Well at least if the general attacked him, he had a shield now.

No no...Proto wasn't moving to attack. When he did move it was to adjust Joe's pant leg to cover up the blood. Couldn't have the Snipers seeing that...they'd know in an instant and this could all get very messy.
"I was scheduled to train a group of ten today. You are the eleventh Sniper on the premises. ...I saw you come in later too." Just because he hadn't been in view, didn't mean Proto wasn't nearby watching over things before starting the training. He was an observer...and a sneak.
"Cmon, get up or they'll know something is up." The General got to his feet, waiting for Joe to do the same.

First he let him live and escape and now he was actually helping him?? Was this guy really the general of Wily's bloodthirsty robot army?? Joe stared up at Proto a long moment as he struggled to process what he had witnessed. Perhaps the general still had a trick up his sleeve. No way he was going to just let him walk away again, right? Joe hesitantly got to his feet, twinging a bit as he put weight on the injured leg. "...What...now?" He kept a cautious eye on Proto while trying to keep all ten snipers in his field of vision. His motorcycle wasn't too far away. If he had to run for it, he might make it.

"Well, now you finish out training so the new bots there don't suspect anything is wrong. So go on and get in their soldier."
Proto took the shield back from him, moving to pass it off on another one of the Snipers. At least this time Joe wouldn't be the target, so there was that?
The Snipers quickly rounded on their fellow bot, shooting at the new 'target' while the General looked on.

He might not be the target anymore, but Joe wasn't out of this yet. Sure he could try to make a run for it, but he didn't want to appear a coward in front of the general of Wily's army, his "fellow" Snipers, or any girls that might be watching from within the surrounding buildings. He puffed up slightly at the thought of those last potential watchers and decided to do something rather brash and perhaps quite stupid. Having no gun with which to shoot his target, he flung his only weapon, the knife, at the sniper bot's head, aiming for that ominous glowing eye.

So focused was the targeted Sniper on fending off attacks from the other's guns well...he never suspected a knife to be the weapon to take him down. The knife found it's home, lodged deep in the helmet of the Sniper wielding the shield. The bot let out a metallic screech, flailing to get the knife out of his face. This opened him up for attack...and in a matter of moments the Sniper was down on the ground.
Offlined.
"Well...I suppose that one didn't make the cut." Proto seemed vastly unconcerned with the loss of the Sniper. It was but one of Wily's extensive army of low-level bots. The offlining of one Sniper hardly bothered him..and the parts would be recycled anyway.

Joe was a bit shocked when his knife found it's mark. Sure that's where he intended to put it but some part of him didn't really expect him to hit the Sniper. Crap! Now he was weaponless!! He shot a wary glance at Proto but the general didn't seem to be perturbed by the loss of the Sniper. Joe quickly walked over to the fallen bot and began struggling to extract his knife. He kept an eye on the others, hoping they wouldn't turn on him for killing their buddy. Joe felt a little regret for causing it's death, even if his knife hadn't been the killing blow. Then he remembered the discussion the group had been having earlier about the best ways to kill citizens like himself. As he jerked the knife free, Joe gave the robot a little kick for all the citizens it had probably killed. "Argh!" Unfortunately, he was rewarded only by a sore foot which he hopped around with a second before reminding himself of the company he was in. The disguised audio quickly straightened up and stood at attention, pretending to wait for Proto's next order. Hopefully the Sniper's hadn't noticed his little display.

No..the Snipers had definitely noticed their 'companion' coming over to retrieve his knife. That part was normal....what wasn't normal was his sudden jumping around like he had actually injured himself with a simple kick. They were robots, that wasn't possible! Unless he was a really junky robot.
One...that happened to have red bloodstains on his clothing...
No, they had finally caught on. This wasn't a fellow sniper! It must be one of those rebels they were trained to deal with! The bots raised their guns, ready to take down the now shield-less Joe.
But...before they could fire, an object whipped through the air and mowed down the whole line of Snipers. At once. The bots fell lifeless to the ground, some of them in pieces, as the object came to rest a distance away.
It was a shield. ...Proto's shield.
"Hrmph...that lot wasn't up to my standards." The General grumbled, moving past the scrap to retrieve his shield.

Suddenly he was facing a firing squad, literally. GULP. Joe's tail bristled as he stared down the barrels of nine sniper guns. s**t s**t s**t!! What the hell was he going to do now??? What about all the ladies he never got to woo? He was going to be a hero damnit! As Joe at last resigned himself to his fate, he heard the loud crunch of metal impacting metal. What the hell was going on? The Snipers fell in quick succession until all that was left were several piles of scrap metal. Joe stared in stunned surprise as the general himself walked over to collect his shield. Had he destroyed his own troops because they weren't up to standard or had he really done it to save Joe's life? Who was this guy???? "You...saved me?" he asked, clearly quite confused.

"I suppose you could call it that." Proto stood, moving his shield back to it's usual position on his back. He tilted his gaze to eye the piles of scrap metal for a moment before turning it back to look at Joe.
".....You really do need practice with this fitting in thing, if you -still- want to go with that whole Sniper disguise idea of yours. Snipers are not the same as myself, or Bass, or any of the other higher ups. They have basic personalities and not a whole lot of free thought. They are not...independent." Basically Wily needed them to follow orders, patrol, and...well very little else. These weren't Robot Masters they were talking about, just generic troop filler.

No free thought? Well that might be difficult. Joe was all about free! But he would try. Right...so no showing up late or standing out. He could do that...maybe! The cologne would have to go too...but only when he was in disguise! Don't worry ladies! Heh. No way was Proto going to pick him out of the lineup again! "Point taken. I'll get it right next time," Joe declared confidently.

"You better, it's not like I've gone around saving anyone else on more than one occasion"
Hell, the Citizens only got one chance. He'd already helped Joe out more than he had the entire group of Audio he was built to save.
"...And -please- get rid of that cologne. It's a dead giveaway every time."

"HMPH! Well if that crazy scientist ever built lady bots, I bet they'd be all over me." Okay so maybe talking bad about Wily in front of the general of his army wasn't the best idea but surely he felt the same! No wonder Wily's bots were such assholes all the time, they didn't have any lady friends to distract them from all the stress of fighting.

"...I am not sure exactly what the difference would be if Dr. Wily built feminine model bots."
And....well he actually looked perplexed. Proto was programmed with basic City knowledge and combat....not much else. It wasn't like Dr. Light had all that much time to teach him, nor was it all that important to Wily for him to know tons of things.
So there was a lot Proto was sadly ignorant about.
"But if you smelled like that I'm not sure they'd like you much either."

"You don't know what the difference would be??? Don't tell me you guys don't know the difference between a boy and a girl." Joe looked horrified. "Hey this cologne was made to attract ladies. Of course you don't like the smell. I don't want to attract you! Though I guess it sort of did," he added with a mumble.
