Chester didn't say anything, watching her smile and thinking quite clearly that it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He was not sure when he had felt so happy before, if he ever had. Just knowing that he had somehow managed to make her smile like that was enough to make his brain turn off and for the world to just feel okay for a little while.
"As long as you come back, or just stop by... I'm happy."
If she deigned to come back to him once in a while, that was enough for him. He could exist on that, just being a part of her life in whatever capacity she saw fit. If she wanted to come back more often, or stay with him whenever she wanted to, he would be okay with that, too. So long as she did not completely forget him, or leave him behind, he would find a way to be happy. He just couldn't tell her all his thoughts in an eloquent or useful way. So he just let the lapse into a peaceful quiet, and helped her tend to her injury.

Zia nodded, having already made a very harsh note to herself to visit him more often, follow his patrols again, bring him dinner. Try to make it like it used to be.
She wanted more than that, though, and was trying to convince herself that was okay and not greedy or bad as she held on to his hand with both of hers and looked down, trying to parse out her wounded dignity from earlier with the feeling of triumph shortly after.
"Is it weird?" She finally asked after a long moment of comfortable quiet. "I mean, um... is it... weird, for you I mean, that I'm not even really... I mean I'm some hybrid alien cat-girl thing and I just... kissed you."

The man who powered up into a half naked remnant of a long forgotten history that he had never realized he was even tied to, and was also in outer space, stared at her when she asked him if he found it strange that she had kissed him. She turned into a cat when she powered up, but was it that different? She was Zia, regardless of what space being was in her, or what powers she had. He was still Chester, after all.
He did not find it weird or confusing, and he did not want her thinking that it was strange. He was having trouble finding the words, though, as he was not the most eloquent at the best of times, and at the moment his brain was struggling to kick into gear. It was still dwelling on the kiss, and inside a hidden, almost forgotten recess of his mind there were fireworks and confetti canons going off, which was distracting to say the least.
So he stuck to his better methods of communication. Words and emotions were difficult, but sometimes, when the moment was right, he could express himself regardless. He smiled at her gently and shook his head, eyes soft and affectionate, his touch light. He just leaned in and kissed her again, to erase any doubt she might have about the whole thing. If it was weird, then he was okay with being so, but he didn't think it was.

Zia could easily overcomplicate any subject if she had a long enough mental conversation with herself, but the subject of her existence came pre-convoluted. She appeared young for her age and had a century of memories trapped in her head. She wasn't sure she could count herself as a member of the human species or a being belonging to this specific universe, or if her soul had anywhere to go after death.
To be so displaced and uncertain of her stability made the concept of wanting someone seem selfish and unfair, whether she could share her concerns about wars and magic them or not.
But when he smiled, her world stopped so abruptly it felt like the sheer force knocked everything over. When he leaned closer her heartbeat exploded until she could hear her own pulse in her ears. And when he kissed her she reciprocated with the full force of that want that overrode everything.
Selfishness prevailed as her fingers moved to the back of his head and through his hair and she slipped into the most natural sense of relating his presence to hers.
Mine.
And all of the complications of the universe could wait.
