Since Wherewithal didn't know where it was going, Teary got to give directions for that part. The other buck was obviously one of those strong and silent types, and rolling the log took a lot of effort, so Where stopped trying to make small talk pretty quickly, and the whole trip was much more boring than it could have been. When they got it to its destination - its recipient, it turned out - Wherewithal nodded amiably, but was glad to leave. Judging by the collection the old guy was amassing, he was obviously up to something big. Maybe he'd find someone else nearby who needed help moving stuff, and who was more fun to talk to than tall, pale and grumpy.

Having sent off Wherewithal with a terse word of gratitude, the white buck moved on with his search, and the feather he stumbled across soon enough caught his interest, though it wasn't what Never Idle had asked for. Stark white, just like himself--he felt a tinge of sympathy for it, knowing how easily marred such a color was, how much it stuck out in the swamp. Pity swayed him--reaching down, he picked up the feather and carried on.

Hadn't he come across one of these just yesterday? The snakes in this area seemed to have a talent for shedding their skins so perfectly, and it made him wonder if there was any worth in these molts, creepy as they were. Maybe... but it was a question for a later time--Teary still had work to do, and he wasn't going to linger at this point.

[You trip, right yourself, and trip again. Not three steps later you trip once more. You would almost swear that there's some invisible creature winding around your legs. In fact--what was that?]
Teary was not a clumsy buck by any means. One couldn't afford to be clumsy with as stark a hide as his was, so when that first trip occurred he cursed whatever root he had stumbled over and righted himself, took a step--oof. Dusty from two falls within seconds of each other, the buck gave an irritated grumble and got to his feet once again, shaking himself thoroughly. One, two, three--another thud. Twice is coincidence, but three times? Now he had the itching sensation (and it wasn't just his rash-covered, stoat-bitten legs) that someone was making a fool of him. A flash of movement caught his eye on the ground, but it was too fast for him to make out, even with a hoof lashing out in an attempt to get back at the mysterious perpetrator. A low grunt of agitation escaped him--this had been a horrible waste of time, and he needed to keep moving.

Another bird--Teary wasn't really sure how many feather Never Idle actually needed, but he still gathered the plumage and brought it to him, finding himself rewarded with an indication that the feathers were certainly welcome. With that, he considered himself done with helping, and was quick to wander away.
