"I hope... I swear if he tries to avoid Luthien or do something so she won't find out I'll send a letter to her to be contrary," Lin muttered.
Though Kaito had a point, she was going to have to talk to Earendil about that. She understood he was frustrated by the lack of hearing, but he wasn't helping anyone if he avoided it.
"And I'll tell him and pester him to talk to everyone about it," Lin added.

Kaito snickered. "He would do that, too." Suddenly his eyes began to gleam. "Heeeeeyyyyy, is Wren still in contact with her father?"
He was getting one of those sneaky ideas of his, and it was clear by the look on his face that someone wouldn't like it. Of course, Lin could probably guess what it was.

Lin gave Kaito a wary look, because she had a rough idea what he was going to do.
"Yes... should I just not ask so I can claim to not know anything?"
Kaito had that look and she knew he could be just as bad as Ulrich sometimes.

"Oh, come on, where's the fun in that?" Kaito laughed. "Besides, it's not like Earendil will know before we get back to the Southland!"
By that time, Lin might have conveniently forgotten about it - if not, then Earendil certainly wouldn't hold anything against her. He wasn't that type of person.

"True, by the time we get back it should have all blown over," Lin murmured.
Well, she figured they might as well. Who knew, maybe by the time they got back Earendil might have forgotten there was anything "important" he would need to tell his family anyways.

Kaito grinned. "Then I feel no guilt in telling you that I fully intend to have Wren ask her father or grandmother to inform Aunt Luthien about what's going on. As much as I would love to be there when she gets the news, being there when she sees him when she already knows what to expect will be almost as big."
He was lucky no one besides Lin was listening to him at the moment.

Lin was half thinking she should stop Kaito before he actually did that, the other part of her figured Kaito was doing everyone a favour by telling Luthien anyways.
"As long as you don't worry them too much I suppose, what's done is done and he's fine otherwise..."

Kaito snorted. "I'm not the one who's going to be talking to anyone, so it's up to Wren to be tactful," he told her. "She's a princess - a trained princess, at that. She'll manage it just fine."
Just then, Shiro came to join them. "Who will manage what just fine?" he asked, glancing between Kaito and Lin and back.

Lin glanced at Kaito and then replied, "Wren, she's been keeping in contact with her father using that mirror. I doubt this will be the last time we'll get neck deep into trouble, so Kaito was saying she'll do fine in assuring her father that she's fine and everyone one else is fine."
Lin was pretty sure this would not be the last time something crazy happened, they were never that lucky. Hopefully just nothing as life threatening as the last time.

"That and she should make sure that Aunt Luthien hears the news," Kaito added with a grin.
Shiro rolled his eyes. "You've made it your life's goal to give an elf a heart attack," he muttered. "Though ... I guess I do have to admit that it would be best to warn her ahead of time. Uncle Ruel is more sober, but Aunt Luthien can be rather ... um ..."
"High-strung?" Kaito grinned.

"You really shouldn't be grinning as you're saying that...." Lin trailed off.
She turned to Shiro, since he had missed most of her and Kaito's conversation.
"My larger worry is that Earendil is going to try and keep it from her somehow. He always seems to do that thinking it's better for everyone involved."

Shiro blinked at Lin. "How would he hope to do that?" he asked, confused. "His scars are pretty obvious ..."
He checked himself and lowered his tone. "Unless he plans to hide his face, she's going to know," he pointed out.
Kaito glanced at Shiro. "He's not seeing or hearing so well, either," he told him.

"Earendil walked off to pitch the tent rather than to tell Kaito to speak up," Lin explained to Shiro, "But I could be misreading that and he could be still be dealing with the fact that he can't hear or see as well as he use to."
They had been there for a full season, but she understood that it was great change for him. Earendil wasn't the kind of person to ask things for himself, so asking something as simple as speak up might be an issue.

Shiro sighed. "That would be just like him," he muttered. "Still, I don't know what it would be like to have damaged senses ... I'd imagine he might feel a bit isolated, not being able to hear well. He does need to learn to ask others for help, though."
"Yeah, right," Kaito snorted. "He doesn't do that."
He glanced at Earendil and grinned. "Someone should start helping him set up the tent and pretend to talk to him, maybe just whisper though."
Shiro smacked Kaito upside the head - and then a second time for good measure. "Moron," he growled.

"Irritating him is not a good way to get him to ask for help," Lin replied dryly.
She shook her head at Kaito, but grinned because the neko did get two good whamps upside the head.
"He'll have to tell everyone though, he can't do night shifts anymore, not that I think I would let him anymore..."
It was him taking a night shift that started this.
