Oliver definitely didn't have it. He was two seconds away from getting back out of the water before Lex called out in encouragement, but he reluctantly headed forward. He waded up to his knees, wincing the whole time, and then a little deeper, and a little deeper... Soon the legs of his shorts had made it into the water, but that was where he froze up completely. Nope, he just couldn't bring himself to go any deeper. Exposing his more... delicate parts to such cold water was not an experience he was looking forward to, but neither could he go back to the shore. The kid glanced at Lex with a helpless expression. One thing was clear, he definitely would not survive long on the island.

Lex gave him a bit of a gold clap, smiling widely at Olivier. Good, he'd finally made it in. But, unfortunately, he'd frozen up too.
Damn it. Lex really didn't want to do this, and really didn't want to think about how pathetic this kid was, but... He crouched down, shaking his head. "Sorry, Oliver." Lex sighed, and then came up with the trainee slumped over both his shoulders. They'd have to do things the hard way, it seemed.
Another heavy sigh, and Lex threw the boy into the deeper water.

Oliver was wary as Lex approached, and even tried to back up when it became clear something BAD was about to happen. "H-hey, wait-" he protested, but was altogether too easy to be picked up and tossed around. He barely fought back, just squeaked loudly as he hit the cold water, and flailed for a second before coming to terms with his cold, wet fate. Maybe they could just get it over with quickly and afterwards he could crawl into bed and not come out until next summer.

Lex gave a sad chuckle, swimming up to where he'd thrown the poor, scrawny boy who looked like a sadder version of himself. "Chin up, little Oliver. Things will only get better from here."
Knowing Deus, that was a bold faced lie. Things never got better from here. "Ready to dive? It shouldn't be too hard."

Oliver may have fixed Lex with the saddest, most pitiful pale eyes possible, but he nodded anyway, and readied his air tank. It wasn't too bad... Not now that he was in all the way. Maybe he could convince himself it wasn't that cold if he just tried not to think about it.

Giving Oliver a look of confidence, bright eyes and a thumbs up, Lex took in a huge breath and dived into the water below. He assumed Oliver followed, and began to take wide strokes down into the Deus abyss.
Everything was going swimmingly for a while, the massive shadows lurking in the background staying there, no red or yellow focal organs searching them. In fact, it seemed as though many of the shadows were straying from them, maybe even fleeing.
A large tentacle loomed overhead, brushing the intermediate Hunter with the gnarly tip. Looking over his shoulder, the man nearly gasped (remembering he was underwater) at what he saw. Was that... was that a Kraken?!

The tentacle grazed him once again, this time curling around him and squeezing him. He tried not to let any air bubble release, but a few breaths came loose from his nostrils. He was okay, his shield was still intact. He only hoped Oliver was making it out better.

Oliver may have been making out better, but what on earth were these waters infested with?! For a minute he was so terrified he forgot to breathe. Whatever creature they had attracted had wisely decided Lex would become a better meal, leaving the smaller kid entirely unscathed, but the mental trauma would surely linger long after they had completed their assignment. For a second he was paralyzed with fright, but when he finally moved, it was towards Lex. If he was going to die on the island anyway, the least he could do was try and distract the monster. HP: 40

Lex's brow furled as he saw Olivier swim ahead of him, body tensing at the thought of what the kid was doing. He was going right for the Kraken's eyes? The dumby! Attempting to break away from the tentacle, he found his ribs being steadily force upon like a bad suit, and he wanted to cough.
< Whelp, you need to hold on. Try a little harder. >

Oliver was so frightened he thought his heart would explode. The monster was just so large... It didn't even seem to notice him there, and it wasn't letting Lex go! His weapon rumbled warningly in the back of his mind, anticipating what he was going to do. < This is not a good idea, little hunter. This is certainly a G-Rank monster, and you have no experience with aquatic encounters. Swim away.> Oliver shook his head, and summoned the large switch axe from the tooth around his neck. It's runes glowed in the dark water. Maybe now the creature would see him now.

Lex struggled more, throwing elbows and writhing within the grasp of the Kraken. Little alarms started ringing in his head, bells and whistles chirping and waling as a trainee, his trainee that he was assigned to take care of, pulled out his weapon against the Kraken.
< Whelp, you cannot let the chick die. That would be quite shameful. >

Summoning the pistol and praying that Fear weapons weren't affected by being underwater, Lex pulled the trigger and shot out a glorious golden light, filling the sea with a high tenor note as the tentacle split from the contact point, a monstrous screech and wails following soon after.
Lex swam to Oliver and shook his head, pointing at the weapon and throwing a thumb behind his back as if to say "get it out of here." They needed stealth and discretion, not attacking something that far outclassed them.
Though, he had to admit, that showed some bravery. Maybe he'd end up getting transferred to Sun some day.

Oliver shielded his eyes as SOMETHING happened, but when he took another look Lex was free and swimming towards him. He took the hint, and the glowing switch axe had vanished. With his hands freed up it was time to swim away. Fast.
It wasn't until he found the caves, and shelter from that giant creature, that Oliver realized his whole body was trembling.

The moment of relaxation and self-awareness didn't last long.
Oliver was suddenly attacked by hundreds of little black tendrils, and as he frantically swam away he was shocked to have even survived it. This whole damage shield thing was something he really had to get used to...

Lex was at least glad to find that Oliver was safe, and knew to go to the coves for the Runstone. When he came swimming out, Lex tilted his head an wondered what on earth had spooked the poor kid. Probably just a falling rock or something.
Swimming into the cove, Lex peeked around for a while but found nothing. He gave a shrug, and started to swim back to where Oliver was.
