"Yup," Nora said with a large smile. "That's the beauty of it." There was a slight pause as she tested how exactly to initiate the attack (sadly, there were no button prompts to help). Beatrix met her halfway, their minds mixing a little more than usual as the Fear flowed and it became clearer.
On instinct she grabbed the hammer with both hands and lunged forward, the energy coursing through her body sapped by the weapon as it lit up even further. It arced diagonally, sparks trailing like a comet's tail until the collision--and it felt like lightning had literally struck her as the energy was let loose in the form of branches of red electricity leaping across Evan's shield and her own, feeling each sting but finding that it wasn't as fatal as it appeared.
But it did hurt more than expected.
It hurt so goooooood~ the black dog howled triumphantly.
She backed off with a huff, her fingers still twitching from the discharge. "Great. Kamikaze attack," Nora muttered. "Good to know."

Oh, Evan thought as he caught sight of the electricity sparking from the head of the hammer, this is gonna suck./Told you so, told you I told you!/All he could do was brace himself for the oncoming strike, roll with the sharp and sudden flash of pain upon impact, and fight to stop his muscles from twitching with the aftershocks. It was a good, solid hit; with a little more practice, Evan could see Nora and her weapon being a formidable duo on the field. Sun was definitely the right place for them. /Now can I--/Nope. "Not bad, for a rookie," Evan offered, accompanied by a teasing wink. "Once you learn to get it under control, it might not hurt you so much. You okay?" She winced as another jolt ran through her, though it seemed to be the last of the aftershocks; Beatrix certainly didn't seem to care either way, eager and vocal to get that high again. "Yeah, just peachy," Nora reported, though she practically whiffed her attack anyway. "Happy to see you taking it like a man, but a dummy could take your place, you know. I can take a few hits, too, Evan."

In Evan's head, Gir was practically screeching in disbelief. /She wants you to and I want you to and you want you to and--/Evan shook his head as he deflected Nora's weapon. "I don't feel comfortable with hitting women," he admitted. Except for that one time, but he had been crazy and she had deserved it. ((HP: 26/50 Defending for: Charge: 3/3; 1/1, 1/1))

True, he did take her less than peaceful awakening pretty easily, considering all it woudl have taken was one look at that weapon and she would have been (a little more) compliant. The hammer practically bounced off Evan's weapon, causing her to curse under her breath as the jarring sensation came back with a vengeance. "It's chivalrous, sure, but not practical on the field, mate."

"We're not really in the field," Evan pointed out. "And I've got the advantage of knowing what I'm doing. If you want to try again after you've got the hang of swinging that thing around," hurr, "I might let you talk me into fighting back. Until then," he continued, holding Gir's glowing red teeth well away from Nora and her weapon, "keep going." ((HP: 26/50 Defending for: 8 Charge: 3/3; 1/1, 1/1))

"If I wanted to pound you this mercilessly, Evan, I'd have asked you to come back with me after this." But then again, smashing things seemed to be doing it for her, however sporadically successful her results were. Got the blood flowing when before she was just sluggish.
Agains their weapons clashed as Beatrix yipped and growled like she was on the hunt.

Evan's eyebrows twitched upwards in pleased surprise at Nora's reply. Even Gir stopped whining, shocked into momentary silence. They hesitated, Gir held noncommittally between attacking and defending, as they held a brief internal powwow. A moment passed, and with it a few false starts at a response, before Evan finally said, "So if we were to fight back, is this still a thing that could happen?" Both she and her partner barked a laugh. So Evan was going to take it seriously? While normally Nora was one to be more straightforward, Beatrix's suggestion to play hard to get was a little too enticing to resist given their reactions.
"Gawking won't let you find out, sweetie," Nora replied with a wink--and a very helpful swing to get him going.

Evan grunted as he was caught unprepared. His eyes narrowed, still unsure as to how to approach this. On the one hand, she was a brand new trainee, and he liked her well enough, and he certainly had no desire to hurt her. On the other hand... /You should go for it!/ Gir suggested unhelpfully. That wasn't a yes. I don't know if I want to risk putting her in the infirmary for a maybe./Ghouls are so weird./Yeah./And and and, it wasn't a no!/Yeah..."Okay," Evan sighed, quite obviously reluctant as he turned Gir's teeth towards Nora, "but don't say I didn't warn you." He brought the blade down on her, and the Fear that coated the teeth crackled upon impact and exploded into smaller shards--teeth and claws that attacked them both. Gir howled in savage satisfaction, the prolonged buildup of Fear adding that much more force to the charge. ((HP: 5 Damage: To Nora: 40 omg im so sorry To Self: 18 Charge: 0/3; 0/1, 1/1))

Whatever fun she was taking from this died the moment his charge was unleashed. Without practice defending with it, Nora found the hammer less than useless in driving the sword off, least of all against the shards cutting through her shield like it was nothing at all. Her eyes widened with shock as they ate straight through it faster than she could reaction, staggering back with less dignity than her pride could have possibly allowed under normal circumstances.
For a moment she actually felt frightened. Her energy levels went down so fast her head started to spin, and she heard Beatrix's mad squeals ringing in her ears which didn't help matters at all. Then she heard something break. Dropping the hammer head first into the ground, Nora cringed and fought through the remaining haze of pain until it eventually lifted, leaning on her weapon for support.
"Well . . . that was . . . bracing . . ." Nora winced as she moved to stand up, feeling little cuts everywhere. "Bloody hell, Evan." She would have added "warn a girl", only he had. God damn. "Guess that's one more Kodex moment of eating crow for the album," she grumbled.

Bracing for the pain Evan knew was coming only made it hurt a little less. There was, as always, that sick thrill that was shared between weapon and wielder before the myriad strikes to their shield really started to sink in and the pain registered. It could have been worse, but not by much; Evan was surprised to find himself still standing. He was more surprised to see Nora still upright, but she didn't look as though she was going to stay that way for long. Gir settled in the back of Evan's mind with a happy little growl as Evan dismissed him. Two strides brought Evan to Nora's side, and he reached out to support her efforts to stand. "I'm sorry," Evan mumbled, frowning, his shoulders slumped a little. A quick once-over showed Evan nothing more serious than some surface scratches, which was a relief, but she also still looked like she might faint. "Are you okay? Lean on me if you need to." /I helped! Now you can lick her wounds!/You're disgusting.Gir cackled.

"I'm fine," she insisted through gritted teeth, even as she looked like she might teeter to one side. I'm sorry, Norrie, sorrysorrysorry...I'll fix it, don't worry! The rest came out as various whines and drooping ears and wide eyes. Nora took a deep breath, ignore the impulse to hiss in pain, and straightened back up on her own, though she kept a hand planted on her weapon just in case. It was almost déjà vu from when Evan had woken her up from the pod. "I'm fine," she repeated less harshly, touching one of the paper cuts on her cheek with a little wince. "Little unexpected, that's all. Guess that's why you're the commanding officer here, eh? Good game." If that was Sun power, then good lord, what on earth were the sort of things they fought...? "So...they all like that, then? Big hitters on you and your opponent?"

Evan's frown deepened, mild irritation mixing with the genuine regret. "Now you're just being stubborn. It won't do either of you any good if you collapse." He stopped just shy of making it an order; he wasn't really her commanding officer, and she seemed more like the type of person who gave orders rather than took them. Still, Evan kept a close eye on Nora, ready to intervene just in case she crumbled under the weight of her own hardheadedness. "You didn't do too badly yourself, for your first time out," Evan replied, "we just had the advantage of experience. It'll come to you, too, with enough time and training. As for your charge..." he shrugged. "That really depends on you and your weapon. They don't all happen like that, and some aren't even offensive at all. Makes sense for us Suns to have a charge like that, though, if you think about it." Now that the adrenaline rush from the fight was starting to fade, Evan was starting to get hungry. A glance over Nora's shoulder told him that the sun was high enough for the early risers to start getting up--time for him to head to the kitchen if he wanted it all to himself. "C'mon, if you think you can walk. Breakfast will make you feel better, it's a proven scientific fact." It wasn't, but it might stop Nora from fainting once her stubbornness caught up with her. "You like pancakes?"

"Oy, have a little more faith. It'd take more than one hit to knock me off my feet." This was unneccessary bluster, but it was Nora's knee jerk instinct to cover for herself. It was a nice idea to imagine, that one day she'd get to kick some poor trainee's arse with a swing; certainly more power than she ever had before . . . She naturally then had to wonder if it could corrupt someone.
Don't be so negative, Breatrix whined. This is a good thing! Good start, he said! You'll see! Now go have a nice breakfast date with Mr. Hottie while I fix ALL THE THINGS~
Nora rolled her eyes goodnaturedly as she leaned over and grabbed her scarf off the grass, making sure she didn't look like she needed assistance. "Belgian waffles more," she said as she used it as a face towel, the dew it absorbed cooling her off as much as it stung. She followed after Evan and hung her scarf back around her shoulders. "But I can do pancakes. Think they have peanut butter and pecans, too? Sausages? I'm starving now, dunno about you."
