Kennet tilted his head upwards as he rolled his eyes, as if the act of rolling his eyes wouldn't have been enough to convey his feelings for Xil's behavior. The hybrid plopped beside the other male and sighed, leaning himself against a tree for support. He waved his hand dismissively as he was thanked and stared out towards the healing house and surrounding paths, before emptying his satchel of it's contents. He separated the familiar colored vials from the ones he didn't recognize and turned to Xil.

"Alright, as soon as you've taken that, you should have some of this," He said, wiggling a blue vial. "It's basically liquid energy. Should hydrate you enough, too."

He placed the vial next to Xil and went back to sifting through what he had smuggled. What was this white-ish liquid? He tilted his head at it, his memory vague about it, hadn't his father's friend used it once? He barely remembered that Monk, his indigo hair being his only true defining feature... He popped the vial open and took a whiff, only to recoil.

"Auuuugh, some sort of alcohol." He gagged, his nose wrinkling. "Why would a healer need a vial filled with alcohol? Alcohol disorients people..."

With one last look at the green vial, Xil tipped his head back and emptied the contents down his throat. He winced at the bitter and herb-like flavor, though wasn't surprised by it in the slightest. He set the now-empty vial down, only to have another appear two inches in front of his nose. Blue this time. He scowled at it, then back at Kennet. Honestly, one vial of unidentifiable fluid was all he was willing to stomach. He wasn't going to be traipsing through the forest hopped up on suspicious plant drugs. Obviously, his judgement was cloudy enough without their aid. "It's fine." He murmured, nudging the vial back in Ken's direction and amidst the rest of the hybrid's collection. "I'll feel plenty re-energized after a nap. Should be easier to sleep if I'm not fighting off poison, right?" He said hopefully, a tiny smile creeping onto his face.

He let his clay-colored orbs wander to the small hoard of medicines. Had Ken really needed to take so many? Half of them were probably completely useless to him. He really could've just deprived whoever worked in the hut of something they might need later. The Oban didn't dwell on it and instead leaned his head back against the bark of the tree. "Alcohol clears out infections." Xil grumbled, casting a weary eye to Kennet. Infections were probably the last thing a group of savages cared about. He shouldn't be surprised that the taller man must have never used it before in his life. He shrugged. "Or maybe your healer gets thirsty." Heh, yeah. That was a welcoming thought.

Kennet arched an eyebrow and took the vial back with a shrug. Well, if he was sure he wouldn't need it, he'd keep it for himself. He liked to have extra vials and things handy for the off chance he needed it. It beat racing to the nearest healer, who could be miles away from any point, Aisha forbid you actually needed surgery or something. He returned his gaze to the white vial until Xil spoke again, a smirk crossing his features.

"There are two types of alcohol, one for wounds, one for consumption." He said, holding the white vial right underneath Xil's nose. "This, is clearly, meant for consumption. It smells like something my grandfather made, and then, by drinking too much of his own creation, passed out from it." He took the vial back and placed the cork back in place, before resting back against the tree with a scoff. "I wouldn't want a drunk healer taking care of me, thank you very much. That's just begging for death to come knocking. So, if I see a healer drinking this while my leg is barely hanging onto it's last tendon, I'd sooner run out the door than let him touch me."

Xil snorted and snatched up Kennet's wrist as the white vial neared his face. "Whether it smells bad or not, I'm sure it would still kill off anything you could've picked up in this horrible forest. Specially if it can make a man pass out." Although maybe these folks weren't particularly skilled at holding their liquor. Ken didn't look like a lightweight, but who was to say? Xil flicked the captured limb away from himself with a dignified huff and adjusted the dark, rough material of the cloak around himself. He could already feel it peeling from his skin with every movement he made, slick with sweat after only a few minutes. Xilarn grimaced. He hated this place. Really, he did.

"I don't think I'd be up for running if my leg was hanging on by a single tendon." Xil admitted. And he doubted Ken would either, despite his bravado. "I think it's begging for death to go running about, exerting all your energy while probably bleeding to death, anyway. I'd take my chances with the drunken healer." Hopefully he'd never be in that poor of a situation...

As his wrist was grabbed. Kennet let out a squeak of surprise, and almost slid forward and onto Xilarn's side. He blushed furiously and grit his teeth, flustered by how easily dragged he was, before shaking his head.

"Oi, will you stop acting like I'm trying to kill you?' He grumbled, his feelings oddly hurt by Xilarn's apparent insinuation. "Honestly, you're the most paranoid person I have ever had the pleasure of finding out here. Can't you just deal, like, for the love of Aisha!"

He folded his arms and gazed away from the other male, pouting. What was with this guy? He was helping him and all he was getting was skepticism. Nice, real nice.

"Oh, yeah, sure. But my grandmother still walks and runs with one leg." He quipped, glancing back to Xilarn. "...And it got ripped off by a beast about... thirty times my height, or so my great-aunt says."

Xilarn stared quizzically at the hybrid, tipping his head ever-so-sightly to the side as he mentally dissected the peculiar noise he'd just emitted. The darkness may have hid Kennet's initial blush if he hadn't looked so blatantly flustered by it. Xil hummed softly in amusement, then turned his gaze up toward the thick branches and leaves and endless blackness beyond. "And how many people have you had the pleasure of finding out here?" He quipped, deciding not to say anything about how if the hybrid really found this encounter 'pleasurable,' he must live even more miserable a life than Xilarn himself.

Specially if all of his relatives were missing appendages. "Next time you see her, you should ask how much running she was doing while it was dripping blood." His orbs shifted back to the side, toward Kennet once more. He didn't seem like that bad of a person, for all that he was a mostly-nude savage stealing things from healing huts. And a pouter. Like a child. "I don't think you're trying to kill me," Xilarn sighed. Right now, anyway. "I'm simply unaccustomed to being spoken to so frankly by..." Was there any word he could put here that wouldn't be offensive? Probably not. "Someone I just met." He finished with a careless shrug.

Kennet's mouth pursed as Xilarn commented about his grandmother. He really didn't feel it was right of him to ask about something that sensitive, after all, it had been the reason why she couldn't go get his father from the tree on her own. His antennae drooped a little towards his eyes at the thought, before twitching towards Xilarn again. ...He really hadn't met many others out here on their own, in all honesty... Most kids his age were kept close to the village because of the war. He was one of the few who could escape the elders and train alone in the trees, where he felt most at home. The elders were far too pushy and rough, not to mention old fashioned and... Well, unsupportive of nearly everything he had to give them. He looked off towards the path again, his eyes becoming more thoughtful, until he began to fiddle with the vials again.

"Oh." He replied, glancing up to Xilarn again. "Well, I'm sorry if I seem a little too forward for your tastes. I just get so bored out here that, once I find someone to talk to, I tend to chat as if I've known them a while. I find it easier to find common ground if you just prattle on..."

He flipped a purple vial about against the earth, a form of twiddling that he liked to do, and pursed his lips again.

"Sooo, do you not have many friends, or something?" He asked, turning to face the other male. "Just curious, because you seem to find socializing... Difficult."

Xilarn nodded in understanding. Honestly, he probably should've expected the natives who actually lived out here to be this... forward as Kennet had put it. Back home all the savages had to be taught proper manners and how to address someone of a higher social class, but... he doubted that was the case here, now that he thought about it. And considering they were in the midst of a war with these people anyway, it was probably best he didn't go around pointing it out. "It's fine," Xil responded. "I know you don't know any better, so it wouldn't be right of me to take it out on you."

Wait.

The Oban leaned forward to glower at Kennet. He found socializing difficult? Xil wasn't the one scouring the forest for strangers to ramble on with! Of course, he wasn't his brother or sister, so he didn't know very many people personally, but... he could still at least speak to his sibling's friends in a respectable non-desperate manner... Rather than answer outright, Xilarn scoffed, "You don't seem to be that blessed with a great many relationships, either. Not if you're so bored you're running about looking for strangers in this accursed forest." Weird, though... He'd assumed the savage camps would be much more close-knit than that...

Kennet tilted his head upwards at Xil's response and rolled his eyes, though he was sure, in the darkness, that Xil couldn't see that. So what if he didn't have that many friends? It didn't really matter to him what sort of socialization it was. All he wanted to do was get rid of dull feelings, even if the way he went about it often lead to altercations. He didn't really see any harm in it.

"Mmm, yeah." He said, his lips pursed. "But a stranger can become an ally, just as much as they can become an enemy. There's no harm in approaching someone as you go about your day. It's how people connect."

He stood, then, with a heavy sigh, and extended his hand down to Xil.

"It's going to get dark soon, you should find somewhere to hide for the night." He said, offering the other boy a smile. "I know a good place down the way, it should be empty, save for an animal or two, which I can just chase out for you. You'll be safer there than out here."

(Time skip)

Months later, after Kennet's father had returned home safely from Tale, Kennet found it was easier to slip away from home without being harassed by his brother. Samoset was too busy trying to impress their father with his arrow skills, or lack there of, and didn't have much time to bother Kennet anymore, much to the spear man's relief. However, this also lead to more time to think, and more time to spend with his friends, espescially one new friend in particular.

"My father told me that Oba is devoid of water, except for a huge beach on the opposite end of the boarder." Kennet mused as he soaked in the clear waters of a deep forest river, his eyes lingering upon Xilarn, who was close by. "If that's true, then how do you people bathe? Do you drill holes in the sand until you find water or do you all just go without bathing until you can reach the beach?"

Time dragged on at such an obnoxiously slow pace. Between scurrying away from the sounds of any approaching natives, hunting for food that was usually served to him, training with his spear and with his raptrix, Xil had... a ridiculously large amount of time on his hands still. It left him wondering what he'd done at home. Sat in his room and read, probably.

Realistically, his life was no more exciting, but still just a s nerve wracking. Basically, the only thing he really had to look forward to... was Ken. It had never occurred to him that he actually needed some form of personable interaction. In fact, he'd always assumed he could do without. But once he was alone, it because disturbingly apparent that he actually kind of missed having a swarm of people around. Even if they were all negative, worthless, judgmental scum buckets...

In any event, it hadn't taken Xil long to push his prejudices aside, and actual feel relieved when Ken greeted him on increasingly frequent occasions. As it was, it was actually starting to be a pleasure to see him.

He was still a savage.

But he was a savage that could communicate just as well as Xilarn could, respected his need for secrecy, almost seemed to respect him in a way that Xil wasn't entirely accustomed to... He really could almost call Kennet a friend, at least if he didn't feel some moral obligation to His Majesty.

"That's ridiculous," Xilarn scoffed as he sat on the bank of the river, leaning back into a pile of thick green leaves with his feet dipping into the water. "How would anyone survive without water? Our cities actually have oases, fresh water springs that bubble up through the sand. I lived near the largest for a while, but the town my family moved to before I left was actually pretty far away from a spring..."

I want to finish this because it's cute. :U

Kennet's mouth filled a subtle "o" shape as Xilarn explained the oases in Oban, and allowed himself to further simmer into the water, his legs floating up towards the surface as he did. It sounded like a chore just to take a bath in Oba, having to walk all that way. Despite living in the jungle himself and being amongst so much dirt, Kennet liked to keep himself clean and neat, and never went a day without at least a quick wash. Just the idea of having walk miles everyday in the scorching sun to take a bath alone made his mouth curve to the south, it practically made his skin crawl.

"Of course no one can survive without water." He said, rolling his eyes. "I was just curious as to how you managed to find any in a desert. Tale doesn't have any water pools like that, just seed pods with water in them. So, I didn't expect another desert to have any either."

He adjusted his positioning again and glided over to where Xil sat, giving him an amused look.

"Speaking of water, you coming in?" He asked. "The water's fantastic and all you've done so far is put your feet in. I don't have to tug you in, do I?"

Great, let's do it. ;D

Tale? Seed pods? Xil wasn't particularly familiar with the geography of the baser lands, but he'd assumed Oba was the harshest desert land... But if there was a land with similar terrain, then his countrymen would have a much easier time attacking there. Xilarn shrugged. Only a matter of time, he supposed. As far as he knew they were doing reasonably well here. Not that he was surprised or anything.

"You look pretty dissatisfied, but it was pretty nice, actually. No where near as dark and muggy as it is here." If he went for a swim back home, he'd dry off pretty quickly, between the sun and the heat, but here... He cast a speculative look out at Ken, peeking up at him from the water. Xil snorted softly. If he dove into that water now, he'd be damp and sticky all day probably. That was pretty gross too. Never mind that he didn't have a change of clothes either.

Not that Ken seemed to care about clothes in the slightest.

"I'll pass. It's annoying being wet, and I don't have the patience to wait to dry off here," he scoffed, tipping his head back toward the treetops.

Kennet rolled his eyes, again, as Xilarn refused to join him in the water. He didn't have the patience to dry off? He shook his head. It wasn't like Xilarn had anywhere of importance to go. The least he could do was wade to his hips or something...

"Ugh, it's like you expect the king to come traipsing along the path to inspect you." He groaned, smirking soon after. "What's the problem with sitting around for a little while?" He raised his hands up in front of his chest and splashed Xilarn, before quickly retreating to the other side of the pool again. "Whoops!"

Xilarn scoffed softly. His Majesty in these woods? Never. Frankly, he'd be disappointed if such a thing were ever allowed to pass. A king was far too noble to spend time out in these grimy parts. Even once they were safely claimed under Oban rule, there would be no need to-

Something cold landed in his lap. Xil gasped, jumping a bit from the unexpected contact and blinking in shock out at the man quickly making his retreat. 'Whoops.' Xilarn scowled, glaring down at the glassy sprinkles of water dotting his chest, and then down farther still, to the wet splodges now adorning his clothing. Exactly where he hadn't wanted them. His gaze snapped back up to Kennet, a snarl forming on his lips. "Can't you just-!" His fingers fumbled for a pebble along the bank even as his clay-colored irises stayed locked on the hybrid male. "For once accept what I'm saying without complaint?!" He spat, chucking the stone with more force than was necessary at his companion.

Kennet gasped and dove, quickly, underwater as the pebble was thrown his way. What the hell was Xilarn's problem? It was water, nothing more, no need for such a dramatic reaction! The hybrid swam forward and burst from the water, before scrambling up to confront him.

"Oi, what the hell was that about?" He exclaimed, pointing towards where the pebble had fallen "It's just water, you'll dry, no need to act like I've dyed your hair purple or something! Sheesh!"

He grumbled a few choice words under his breath and folded his arms, his lips pushed upwards in his trademark purse, before he turned back to Xilarn with a furrowed brow.

"Also, I'm my own person." He snapped, his gaze immediately darting to the side. "You should know me by now. We've only been hanging out for, what, a few months?"
