Just like everyone here. So, a whole facility for people who could see things no-one else could: dragons, demons, werewolves, ghosts, God only knew what else. Very fiction-y indeed. But she was starting to recollect bits and pieces about a recruiter, some sort of contract . . . And it got spacey past that point. It should have worried her more than it was at the moment, but it was hard not to focus on the fact that the man was blocking the only way out.

Good thing he was so very polite.

Nora pressed her lips together, mulling over the information for a few moments. He was asking her to do what she had been completely denying since childhood. "If you say so," she eventually replied, her frown lifting. For now, she'd have to take things in stride and really analyze them when her head didn't feel like a smog cloud and an rattling iron cage at the same time. For all she knew, this could be just a cult. A well-funded, paranoid cult that she saw some shred of reasoning for joining.

Must have been a good drink.

"What next, then? Tell me I don't have to worry about more paperwork off the bat."

This, he could do--this was what he had planned for, on the off chance that someone woke up on his watch, and he was relieved when the conversation drifted more towards the answerable questions now that she seemed like she might believe him.

"Shouldn't be too much paperwork," Evan confirmed. "The techs will assign you to a division. There are five divisions in Deus, and all of them do different things. Sun," he said with a hint of pride, "is the front line. They're the first ones in--more offense than anything else. Moon focuses on defense. Death is intel, Life is tech and research, and Mist does a little of everything. After you've been given your assignment, they'll take you to the Cove to meet your partner. With me so far?"

A well-funded cult with organization. She could do worse. "I'd prefer being at the head of the charge myself," Nora remarked, tossing a glance around as if expecting an eavesdropping tech to be there, "if it's all the same to them." Intel gathering, interesting and useful as it was, again involved a bit too much paperwork for her liking. Hitting the pavement had always been her favourite portion.

Through her glancing she finally noticed the man's coat seemed to bear a design like a sun. Organization and uniforms! "Hope you can make a little more room when I get there," she added with a hint of a smirk. This wasn't Harry Potter: she wasn't going to let a sorting hat of strangers tell her where she ought to go. "What else?"

"Oh, yeah?" Evan's smile made a triumphant return. "My kind of girl. We're the best division, anyway. I'm sure you'll fit right in." She did have the kind of spunk and sass that seemed characteristic of the women in the Sun division, now that he thought about it.

He considered telling her about the bonding process, how she would have a voice in her head for the rest of her life in return for some degree of invulnerability--and a sweet weapon, of course. Words couldn't begin to describe it, though. "I think I'll let you find out what else," he said, his smile turning sly at the edges not with malice, but with mischief. "Don't worry, it's a good surprise."

"Yeah?" She uncrossed her arms in order to stretch them, grimacing. "Better hope so. It's the least you owe me after that rude awakening." Nora wasn't sure what to make of that fox face, but everything had seemed tame thus far; she wasn't particularly worried at this point, at least not for herself. Probably a hazing tactic to work on her nerves.

"One last thing: my family." She paused, her mouth twisting a moment before she continued. "I remembered a little just now . . . Are they good on their word here? Do they think I'm dead?"

"My sincerest apologies, Ma'am," Evan replied in a tone that made it obvious that his apologies were only maybe halfway sincere, at best, "I'll try to make the next wake-up call much more pleasant." Like maybe at 5 AM on a random morning for training. Welcome to Sun, indeed.

Her next question gave him pause. "Everyone from your old life thinks you're dead," he confirmed. "It's in everyone's best interests for them to keep thinking that," he added, this apology much more sincere.

"And I'll be sure to give you another proper greeting," she shot back, smiling pleasantly. It dimmed when he confirmed what she remembered. It was...necessary, she supposed, but it didn't blunt the guilt she felt when she imagined her daughter one day waking up without Mummy to kiss her good morning. She'd be at Auntie's, though. She'd be okay.

"Everyone's best interests indeed," Nora echoed with a slight nod. "Alright, then. Where do I go from here to find out your little secret...?" She realized all this time she hadn't bothered to get a name.

"Evan," he offered. "Evan Roberts--Sun, as you've guessed. And you are...?"

"Constable Ravensgrove." It slipped out of her before she thought about it, though afterwards she paused, remembered that it no longer mattered, and sighed. "Nora," she added. "Now I'd very much like to get out of this hatchery if you don't mind."

"Nora," Evan repeated, nodding; he would remember her, definitely. "Well, it was nice to meet you, Nora, even given the circumstances," he said as he walked to the door. "Don't let the techs give you too much trouble--and if they do, well, maybe show 'em a little of that restless leg syndrome." He offered her a grin and a wink as he held the door open for her.
