Her words and actions counteracted each other. As expected she stepped back, pulling away from him. Andrew knew she would. They were just incompatible. He sighed and let his tail drop ducking it back behind his wing. "Olivia... I want to be friends..." he sighed. "But..." she was so far away. They had crossed the line but in a moment he had broken it and he had done so on purpose. She would stay over there even if he hid his fire now. And he made her... Made her cry. "I don't..." This whole thing was doomed from the beginning. He should never have started it. "Jack this will never work." he turned away wrapping his wings around his tail as he clung to it shaking again. It was too much and embarrassing to shiver like this in front of her but he couldn't help it. "I'm sorry." He doubted even showing her what he had practiced would do any good.

For a brief moment, there was a small sliver of hope she could have held onto. Andrew had started with the words she wanted to hear, that they were still friends. But then, there was that but and he pulled them all back. Ruined them. Crushed them. He tried to do what he did at Scarentines, but as she had run then - mostly because of fire, really, though that was here too - she found herself still standing there with her eyes shut tight. But her body was shaking.
From a different fear all together. Not of the flames, but from the possibility of losing someone dear to her. "N-no...." She whined softly, her fingers balling into fists before she flexed them out and then grabbed onto the ruffles of her skirt.
"No." Olivia repeated. Solidly, sternly. Her eyes opened, just a sliver, too upset to open them any further. There was pain behind them, she so wanted to cry. But it was all she could muster as she lifted her head. She almost looked like she was glaring at Andrew. "You're my f-friend..."
This was all terribly upsetting!

There it was again. Friend? He couldn't understand. She clearly was too afraid of him to be friends. She was crying... and he made her angry. He had never seen her angry, not at him anyway. But he was making her upset. This was his fault. All his fault. He should have stayed away in the beginning. He had made her upset. He didn't like it. He hated seeing her upset, but this wasn't the first time. It wouldn't be the last time. He remembered her curled into a ball in a dream, she was upset and he could do nothing to help. He sat helpless, waiting for someone else to fix it. It would only get worst he realized. Because she was afraid of him. He could see it now. Again. She was terrified of him, angry but terrified. He was hurting her again just by his mere presence. He didn't want to see her sad anymore. He didn't want to hurt her anymore. She would continue to come back if he didn't do something. Over a year's worth of hard work. A fragile trust, a weary one. A rare step across the gap, but only in the land of dreams. He would break it. He would make this the last time. He would scare her away. Andrew turned back and forced back the pain, putting on his best poker face. He would just have to pour water over it and make sure there was nothing left. "No we are not friends. We can not be friends." he let the heat rise in his body, fire burning in his hands. "We will never be friends." not here, not in this world, never in this life. He spread his wings and let his tail burn higher than he ever had around her. Angry, just get angry. Don't let it hurt them anymore. He didn't want to do this but he had too. He let it rise within him and showed her what it meant to be a flame demon, letting the fire flicker out of his hands and tail and licks of it coming from his horns. Heat and light radiated off him, pushing back the cold that had invaded his room, but he was still shaking.

Despite how much she willed herself not to, Olivia took a trembling step backwards. Maybe a little out of fear, seeing those flames dance around Andrew as he controlled and commanded his element, but mostly at the sheer force at which he did. The pressure pushed back the little bit of cold she produced from her body, that little bit that kept her at comfortable levels. It had power of its own but nothing against what he was able to do. Apparently.
Her blue eyes closed tightly again, trying to fight back the anguishing little cry she wanted to let out. Another 'no' to those hurtful words he was telling her, words she never wanted to hear from anyone least of all someone she had gotten so close to. "We're friends..." She offered him again, weakly, despite how she looked. How in pain she looked, standing far away from him, not even looking at him.
"I've been trying really hard..." The ghoul pouted, again really wishing she could produce tears because it seemed the time to actually do something like that. But she couldn't, all she could do was look desperately sad just standing there with her fists balled so tightly in the fabrics of her skirt.
"... and you promised." Olivia whispered, still at least finding words to say to him. It was then she dared a step forward, even with the heat. The last clinging bits of frost evaporated around her with a soft hiss. "I just wanted to know why you looked so sad. And what Mia meant. And you said you had something to tell me..." Desperation sometimes meant rambling.

She stumbled back and for a moment he thought he had succeeded. That he would pressure her to the door. He opened his mouth to land the final blow To remover her from his life permanently despite her little protests. The little protest that she couldn't even look at him with. But she reminded him of his promise and then... stepped forward, meeting him at the five foot mark even though he was in full blaze mode. He didn't know how to answer her questions. The final bow didn't come... she was still here, still demanding friendship. Even though she was clearly terrified. "I won't hurt you." he finally said. Even though he knew he was hurting her now, not with fire but with words. The flames in his hands died down vanishing from his body in all but his tail which dropped to a low glow, not out of intent but pure depression. The windows once again drew out the heat. Why did she have to bring up Mai, that memory... She was never supposed to see. He didn't know how to put it into words especially after what he just said. He shouldn't tell her. It would just make everything worst. "I just.... wanted to show you... that I could put out fire." he hadn't intended to say it, he had wanted to surprise her, to show her his little trick that he had worked on. He thought it would make her happy, or at least more comfortable. But he certainly didn't want to tell her about what he and Mai had spoken about. He didn't want to explain. He didn't want to tell her that he loved her because they couldn't be friends. This wouldn't work. Even now she was still too afraid.

Even after that brave step, now it seemed she was incapable of moving; all that she had managed to muster up had been used in one go. For now at least. Now Olivia just stood there even as the cool air began to circulate back around her, just stayed there trembling. And her eyes still remaining shut tight. The ghoul was honestly unsure if it was from fright or just being upset. Maybe both. All she knew for sure was she couldn't move, least her fingers that grabbed onto yet more fabric for some small form of stability.
At least he said those words though, even if he didn't take back the ones that had actually hurt. But he said the ones that went along with his promise. But. "It makes you sad," she was sounding like a broken record but it was the best way to explain what she had seen. "W-why do you keep trying to put out more of your fire?" His own words, even though she didn't associate him as such, were that he was fire (she just placing him as a demon who so happened to use fire). So, why keep trying to snuff it out? It didn't make sense to her.
Olivia wanted to tell him to shut the windows but she reasoned maybe she should open her eyes first. Which she was getting at.

And now he just felt useless. That hard work and she just didn't appreciate it. She was still terrified but yet here, why? He couldn't figure it out. It was clear to him that she was scared, upset and yet she stayed. What was she looking for? She sort of answered his silent question. Yes it hurt to try and control it but he wanted to be in control. "I..." he wanted to make her happy but it wouldn't do any good. "I want to be in control." it was true. He wanted to have the power to put fire where he wanted and to take it away when necessary. "I don't want it to rule me... I don't want you to be scared of me. I only want to be scary when I want to be." She wasn't even looking at him. He tugged his tail back into his hands holding it a bit like a scareling. Some part of him felt safer with it there. It was childish but right now he was too upset to care. Carefully he blew on it trying to get it at least to normal levels.

Well, of course she would still be terrified, which was maybe putting it a little strongly, after a light display like Andrew had produced. Wasn't something she could get over in five seconds. Along those those very mean words, they were really what hit her hard. (Still, the fire was bad and she hadn't even seen it to the extent, just felt it).
"When you do that... it scares me..." She told him, finally managing to pry her eyes open. They still remained cast on the floor though, sad and rejected. She wanted to be happy for him, that he had gained control. But he had still done those things. Why didn't he just tell her earlier? Why did he have to do such a mean thing? "I don't want you to say you're not my friend and then.. do that..." Olivia couldn't even say it.
And she still wanted him to close a window. Because he probably wanted to. At least she finally spared him a glance though, a wounded one.

"Of course it does..." that was the point. He was scary... he wanted her out. He didn't want to be here anymore having this conversation. But he couldn't very well leave his own room... "I... we can't. Because. I want you." how to explain. He didn't even have the proper words for this. "I want you, but you are scared. So it would be better for both of us, if I just stayed away. Because.. if I get you I won't want to let go. Ever." He twisted his tail in his hands, glancing at her from the side. He had hurt her badly. Maybe she would go now, satisfied. He explained as best he could. chirigami There. As close as you will ever get.

And at once her expression changed to a puzzled one as she considered his words. Which she couldn't fully understand, at least the levels at which he meant. She watched Andrew turn from her, wondering for a brief moment if he wanted her to leave. Well, it obviously wasn't working too well. The last time he had tried to tell her to leave him alone didn't work either.
"But... you already have me..." Because at the simple levels at which she operated, they were already in each other's lives, were they not? Obviously she wasn't going to let go of him either, she held on to everyone even if they liked it or not.

"No I don't." he dropped his tail and stared at her. He was only confusing her it seemed. She didn't understand. She didn't realize the gap between them. How could she not notice? Then he realized that she didn't seem to make much of the weddings... re remembered fouof. How casually Olivia just played the wedding game with her. but she also didn't seem to know about the wedding kiss till he had said something. He would have to explain it. He stepped forward, not to scare her, but to prove his point. Step forward moving towards her passing the 5 foot marker again, this time on his own. He reached out and then hesitated stopping just before her cheek. "I can't get near you."

Well, all that game stuff would have been easy enough to explain. Because it was game stuff like he had told her. But they weren't exactly discussing that at the moment.
Olivia concern grew when Andrew decided to take a step forward. True, she was happy he was facing her again and not trying to silently push her out (or push her out with fire again) but, he was getting closer. Pushing past that invisible line (even though she had totally done it earlier). Her shoulders tensed up, the only thing she could do even though she really wanted to back away. Because his tail was still right there behind him. Just don't look down, she told herself and just concentrated on looking at everything else. (Finally realizing his horns looked... bigger? His wings broader... when did that happen?)
When his hand reached just inches of her cheek, she reflexively winced. She could feel the heat radiating off of him. Which, really wasn't all that terrible compared to actual flames. Warmth she could deal with but what powered it... it wasn't there though. There was no fire attached to his hand, not this time. Just warm. "You are very close." Olivia told him, pulling back slightly.

Pushing into the bubble was cold. He watched her flinch back away a little. He knew it would happen, but he still didn't like it. "Exactly my point." he stepped pass her, moving with intent to somewhere else. The couch. It was getting cooler in there, and it wasn't exactly the warmest day out. It was warmer than that awful snow season, but still it was enough that now that the emotions were gone he noticed. That and he had invited the cold in so to speak. He had misjudged his distance a little, or rather forgotten that his wings had grown over a foot over the winter months. One brushed passed Olivia's shoulder as he pulled his tail well away from her and flopped face down on his couch. He had noticed the cool touch but his wings had a tendency to crash into stuff, namely door frames, so he really barely even registered that it had happened. They did however make wonderful blankets. Which was their new purpose as he folded them around himself letting his tail dangle off the far edge of the couch.

His wing didn't go unnoticed, and she only briefly regarded it and oddly didn't even make to move when he came in contact with her. Maybe because it was simply a wing but mostly because her gaze was simply following him. Past her and to the couch.
This logically was the signal for her to leave, to give up. To accept defeat. But she didn't move, only enough to turn around and stare at him. Sadly. Pouting. And consider what she had done, she had really tried hard not to move away from things, she had tried to be strong like she had been trying to do. Really. But.. she couldn't help it and now here was Andre face down on his couch and not saying a word to her. Dismissing her. Really, she should be going. But she didn't.
Olivia also really had no idea how her simple text had turned into this.

Was she still there? Andrew looked after a few minutes of silence tail twitching. Why was she still there? He was cold. He wanted to shut his windows. He really wanted... well it was his room. He turned up his abilities just a little letting the heat drift off of himself. He would ignore her. Well not entirely, but he wasn't going to turn off his abilities for now. Eventually she would go away. Probably. "Do what you want." he waved a hand at the other comfortable chair in the room. The one he usually used for games, though it wasn't as comfortable for him anymore. Wings were such a pain when it came to armrests. "You can sit or whatever." he didn't offer her food, mostly because he had learned a while ago that she didn't really eat. It felt strange acting as if nothing happened, as if they didn't have a big long fight, but he didn't know what else to do. He hadn't even properly broken things off. She was just there. But wasn't that what he had wanted all along? He was so confused. Eventually she would leave. Right? She was too scared to stay for long. chirigami Paragraphs about nothing.
