Cartwright's ferocity couldn't be argued with, and he managed to turn the tides on his challenger! Matt wound up on his back with Cartwright delivering his own blows down with those forearms! After a few hit true, Shanahan attempted to copy The Talented One and force him off and onto his back, aiming to get his positioning back and wrap both of his hands around the man's neck, hoping to squeeze the life out of Cartwright already!

Matt won't let Cartwright get away with those shots and somehow makes the brawl even uglier as he reverses the positioning again and clamps his hands down on to Cartwright's throat like a vice! There's nothing the referee can do about it given the hardcore rules of this match and Matt is exploiting them already! As Cartwright's face begins to turn red from the lack of air, he stops flailing his arms about as he focuses on a escape! Cartwright tries to grab both of Shanahan's wrists with his hands and flip him overhead!

Cartwright's life was in the hand of The Storm. He was going to end this so soon, so early. He'd just have to wait for the pod to open for him to get the ladder.
But The Champion wasn't having it! The smaller man used his strength and leverage to flip Shanahan off of him, causing Matt to land on his back! His hands went to his head on impact though, the pain of the previous blows kicking on the moment he was off the offensive.

Cartwright held his neck with both hands, breathing heavily at the brief respite that the flip had given him. He couldn't just stay on the mat though, or else the challenger would quickly regain his advantage! Cartwright gets to his feet as Shanahan returns to his. With his left hand nursing his throat, it is up to the back of his right hand to swing wildly at Matt's chest for a flurry of chops!

The Storm was beginning to rise to his feet just as his opponent was. The assault will continue, it must! Unfortunately, it wasn't in the cards. Matt's chest vibrated with a loud smack as Cartwright's first chop connected! And another! And even more! Those chops were flying hard, causing Matt's face to contort in pain before finally attempting to grasp his reddening pectorals and turn away from The Talented One!

It looks like Cartwright is gaining momentum as Shanahan feels the need to protect his chest! The back of Cartwright's hand has turned red from the intensity of the chops! Cartwright grabs Matt by the back of his head with both hands, looking to drives him forward towards a turnbuckle to drive his head into it a few times!

The Storm was led over to the a turnbuckle and proceed to have his headache driven home by Cartwright's determination to bash his head against the thick padding. After a few blows, Matt's right hand shot out to grab the turnbuckle and prevent any further harm! If he proved true, he'd try to bring his elbow flying backwards in Cartwright's ribs!

Shanahan puts the breaks on as Cartwright went for one head slam too many into the turnbuckle! A low elbow to Cartwright's ribs from the challenger surprises him, causing him to release his grasp around Matt's head!

With his head released from the clutches of the enemy, Matt turned around to glare at the man who had been inflicting so much pain on his cranium; he didn't look very happy! His hands shot forward and attempted to wrap around Cartwright's throat; if successful, he'd try to turn and toss the man right into those turnbuckles! From there, it was time to deliver some quick jabs to the man's ribs!

Whowa! Cartwright's throat is grabbed by an angry Matt with both hands! His legs bop up and down separately before he is tossed into the turnbuckle!
"OOF! OOF! OOF!"
That is the sound of someone being punched in the ribs multiple times!

Matt was on a roll again! This match had been tug-and-pull almost entirely so far, but Shanahan was determined to maintain the upperhand! After delivering his quick jabs to the man's ribs, The Storm pushed away and ran to the opposite side of the ring, putting distance between him and the champion...
... only to sprint right back to Cartwright! He let out a fierce roar as he came storming through, attempting to smash The Talented One into the turnbuckles with a hard clothesline!

Shanahan sprints forwards as Cartwright nursed his ribs! He looks up just in time for his throat to take the brunt of the clothesline in the corner! His body rotated around Matt's arm from the throat as he dropped to the mat, landing on his back!

After delivering the devastating clothesline, Matt stayed against the turnbuckle for a moment. He was already showing his dominance in the match so far, but he knew it wouldn't last long. He knew how Cartwright worked, after all! Both men had similar tactics for switching the momentum at the end of the day, it was going to come down to which one would outplay the other.
The Storm wouldn't be outplayed.
Shanahan pushed off the turnbuckle and stared down at Cartwright, closing whatever gap would be between them so that he could rain some stomps down onto his body!

Shanahan stomps away at the grounded champs body, forcing him to escape by rolling under the ropes and to the outside! Cartwright lay on the outside holding his left shoulder with his right hand, which seemed to have took most of the stomps!

It seemed that Cartwright wanted to take things outside to the metal grating! That was fine with Shanahan, he knew they'd be going out into the solid metal unknown sooner or later. After the champion rolled through the ropes, The Storm stepped over them to follow after the man. Pacing after him, Matt attempted to reach down and rip Cartwright back up to his feet with those short locks of hair!
