T'lon had slipped in with Malzirth tagging along along with some of the last to enter for the lesson. Right in time... he gave a sigh of relief when Malzirth said something T'lon hadn't quite caught. The crowd began to quiet down and moments later Farin began their next lesson. It had been a miserable time the past few days, it rained... and rained... and rained. So they had stayed within the Weyr doing chores and cleaning the barracks. But now things were returning normal, well except for one thing.

He had heard from an assortment of rumours from different sources that today would mark the first day of preparation for flight training. But of coarse each lesson was leading the Weyrling towards that day, he had trouble paying attention to Farin, but he managed. The thought of flight seemed to be on everyone's minds even the growing dragons seemed to look at it with anticipation. But could you blame them?

T'lon looked over at Malzirth with affection, his hide radiated a mulitude of brown and even some tones of bronze. T'lon zoned out, his gaze settled over on nothing in particular. Mine, is something wrong? The question echoed in his mind before he snapped out of it, he looked up at Malzirth, who was peering down at him. No, I'm fine. He smiled, Although, I think we have to split up now. He said, and Malzirth warbled some form of agreement.

As everyone buzzed about and, hopefully, seemed to separate themselves, the woman pointed her finger towards the field only about three dragon lengths away. "Please ask your partners to go in that area and begin excising their wings. After that, we'll start talking about flight." She turned her head to the side. "V'dran, Sh'karin-" She spoke sharply, with a certain amount of curtness. "Please make sure the dragonets arrive there, and moniter them for problems."

At this, a bronze little creature appeared from between, slinked across the students, and landed in a thrust on Farin's shoulder. For a moment she appeared annoyed- but she had called for the little creature, and it was short lived. From the heights, a pale green shifted, also waiting for her rider's call for when to start some demonstrations.

Datiath chuckled mentally at her. Listening to the older woman and taking direction from N'tren, the bronze soon arrived at the feild. He sat down and looked at the other dragons approaching. You will never catch uo with me if you go so slow.

N'tren could barely contain his excitement; he tried not to let his nervousness leak over into Datiath's mind as his life partner sat down. His chest swelled a little with pride at Datiath's size. He already towered over all the other lesser colors-perhaps he would be the largest bronze of the bunch!

He didn't want to speak while Farin was giving instructions. So many questions ran through his mind, it was hard for N'tren to keep himself calf. Instead, he tried to shift his weight back and forth to relax.

He had to get up, when he had only just settled himself in? Sh'karin stopped himself rolling his eyes skyward, and stretched his arms above his head briefly before getting to his feet. "Come on, Inath. No dallying now, huh?" The faintest hint of irony crept into his tone as the almost fullgrown brown rumbled softly. The youngster grinned quietly and tossed a little wave over his shoulder.

"Later, kiddies," he said goodnaturedly, winking at R'ael. The irony was not lost on him either, that this man was about five years his senior; but as he shoved his hands in his pockets and walked towards the other end of the field, whistly idly, his dragon towered over the other little ones as they began to gather down the other end of the field.

Eventually reaching the other side, Sh'karin hoisted himself up on the slightly crumbled stone wall and watched the young dragons stretching their wings excitedly. He raised both his eyebrows, and peereed around. The old woman had mentioned V'dran; was that layabout actually turning up for a lesson? He shaded his grey eyes with one hand as he looked around, a grin spreading across his face.

Trith huffed, and replied, But I'm only just behind you!

And she was, arriving only a couple moments after the bronze. She couldn't hardly be blamed, though, since his legs were longer. She sat back on her hindquarters, and half-extended her wings.

Remia watched the two older weyrlings go, and smiled at Sh'karin as he waved. She saw his wink at R'ael, and wondered if they had met before, with that interaction. Then she decided it wasn't her place to worry about things like that, and instead turned her attention to the lessons. The weyrlingmaster's flit had arrived, so something must be about to happen.

Breathing a quick huff of relief that Farin hadn't caught him, he nudged his head in the general vicinity of the weyrling dragonets. "Think you and Inath can handle that bunch?" His laugh was good-natured, he knew that Tarvanth's patience was infinate, whereas his was not.

I am not overly worried. Ariath's clutches are good ones. The massive brown dragon hovered high above Inath, to make sure none went too high.

Grinning again, V'dran headed across the field to where he saw his weyrling companion perched on a low wall. Noticing the grin on the boy's face, he lightly punched the brown-haired weyrling, settling on the wall next to him.

"It looked scary there for a minute, but I'm here! Think we'll be catching many dragonets today?" Secretly, he hoped not. It was never fun to watch a new rider's concern turn to anxiety.

Datiath looked down as his smaller clutchmates arrived. He was not the first one there but he warbled with excitement. Faceted eyes whirling a deep blue-green, he turned to Trith and nudged her.

Only just behind me. I remember what happened the last time you were behind me. My tail suffered. He raised his head and snorted at her. I shall watch you!

Trith rocked a little with his nudge, then nudged him back, but failed to move his bulkier form, instead pushing herself backward again. She made a slightly annoyed grumble, and said, You stopped too quickly! I did not know you were going to.

She looked over at the others arriving, wishing they would get here faster so they could start to practice. She wanted to fly!

N'tren could not hear what Datiath was saying to Trith but he did watch curiously as the green tried to butt his dragon's side. Looking curiously over at Remia, he gave her a funny look. "What are they saying? All I get is laughter from my fellow."

Datiath watched as Trith fell back. Dropping his mawl in a draconic grin, the bronze gave her a word of encouragement. Thread stops and goes when it pleases. You will learn to pay attention and then you will fly well.

Sh'karin stayed immovable at the punch, one eyebrow slowly raising before turning to look at V'dran. His face darkened for a moment, before breaking out in a quick smile.

"The old woman force you away from those sunny beaches to come help out?" He inquired, both hands on either side of him on the wall, kicking at it idly and staring up at the clouds. "I realise we haven't been at a lesson for ages, but - "
It is good for us to come. We get a chance to show the babes how well we have learnt our lessons and how they should look up to us? Inath's tone was amused, and Sh'karin snorted.
"If we really did learn them that well." He stared at the clouds again before suddenly realising he had broken off mid-sentence to respond to Inath, and now was getting a laughing look from his fellow weyrling.

"Sorry," he muttered before looking back over their end of the field, where pretty much all of the young dragons had gathered by now, the little cluster of weyrlings up the other end. Sh'karin ran one hand over his head, fingers getting slightly caught in the mess of hair that was tied high on the back of his head.
"Are they all here, Inath?" he asked, casting eyes over the multihued youngsters.

Farin nodded her head as it seemed that the majority of the parties were at least somewhat spread out between one another, and that would have to do for the moment. "Alright, everyone." She did not like addressing the class openly, but for a subject like flying, there really was only one way to do this. "Without spewing forth from all ends- what do you think you know about flying? What notions of it do you have in your heads? Or first- how many of you have flown on a dragon before? And those of you who have not?"

R'ael shakes his head faintly, trying to think of how to answer the direct question from Farin. What does he think about flight? What should he think about flight? He got the sense she was looking for a particular answer but damned if he's sure what it is...
"I..." He pauses, then forges ahead again. "It's important...but I imagine it's also a lot of work between the Rider and the Dragon...seems like there's a lot to keep in mind..."

"I flew on a blue once when a rider stopped at my parents' hold. But it wasn't a real trip, he gave each of us a fly by of our hold. Don't dragons have to flap their wings to get into the air?" N'tren spoke after R'ael. He figeted with his tunic, hoping his answer did not sound too stupid.

Remia spoke up. "I don't know about that, N'tren... the blue that brought me here did so, but I know the watchdragon we had liked to drop off the heights."

She paused, then added, a bit sheepishly, "I think it will take some getting used to. There was a lot of up and down involved, though I think they were trying to be nice to me by not jerking too much..." she hoped that she didn't lose any standing in her classmates eyes, and especially not in Farin's because of her answer.

For a moment, a series of expressions crossed about Farin's face. Finally, she simply covered a long, and slightly calloused hand across the bridge of her nose and took a breath. When it dropped, she recomposed, shook her head and decided that for the most part, flying knowledge was limited. It didn't surprise her- but she could always hope. "Alright, alright." She spoke, waving her hands as if to dismiss it.

"Let me rephrase. How do you think anything which flies gets into the air? Particularly something so large?" She held out her hand, and the small bronze firelizard flicked his deep blue eyes, and hopped off her hand. His wings did not flap, and for a second he almost stayed aloft, before he had to land on the grass. "A dragon can glide, but he cannot glide without wind. This makes low altitudes difficult." She hiked her wrist up as a singnal, and this time, Fleckin hopped up, gave himself two flaps, and by arching his wings at an angle, climbed into a spiral and landed on her wrist. "You might think all this is trivial. Your dragon flies, not you. But it is up to you to understand. You must be able to realize when your partner is putting itself into a dangerous situation, and you must also know what goes on subconsciously in their minds when flight is in progress."

"What, then, are thermals? Have you heard that term before?"
