Ogbonna paused, his eyes growing distant. ...How could he tell Nua they weren't exactly safe? He could feel himself sweating as his mind searched for an answer that sounded plausible and, yet, not terrifying. He ruffled Nua's hair, bit his lip, and offered him a smile.
"When they come back, Nua, I'll be right here." He assured. "You'll be all better and we'll be together and safe. Don't worry."
It seemed all was peaceful again after he spoke, and honestly, he felt relieved. Nua was resting against him... His precious... His... Nua.
"...The big monsters." He repeated, his mouth fidgeting against the words. "They made a big hole, Nua. They separated you from me and hurt you. But, don't worry, I hit them... I hit them all down!"
He grinned, though it was forced, and raised his free hand into the air.
"I beat them up for you, Nua!" He exclaimed. "I got them all because they hurt you and no one hurts my Nua and get away with it!"

”You promise, Oggie?” asked Nuawahn, opening his eyes with some effort to look up at his friend's face. It was hard to focus against the alluring sleep, but he could see that Ogbonna was smiling, and smiling was a good sign. Smiling was good.
”You'll protect me from the people when they come back? And the big monsters?” his voice was light, like his magic, as he looked up guilelessly at Ogbonna.
He half sat up to better see Ogbonna's face. ”And you wont...” he hesitated, feeling not good feelings rise in him. His eyes dampened and, to his surprise, a tear dripped down his face, flowing around his cheek crystal on its way to his chin. ”You won't leave me all alone again?” he sniffled, feeling more sad, scared tears rising to the surface. He squinted, trying to keep Ogbonna's face in focus even though his eyes didn't want to focus – they wanted to sleep.
But he had to hear Oggie say it: if he said it, it would be all right. ”Promise?”

"I promise, Nuawahn, I promise." Ogbonna said, his voice weighted with assurance. He ran his hands through Nua's hair and pursed his lips, before pulling them back into a smile again. He had to stay strong for Nua, he had to convince him that, no matter what, it would all be okay. Nothing was going to break them apart ever again.
"They can come if they want, Nua, but they will never, ever, get to you." He repeated. "Never in a million, billion, years."

Never ever. Never in a million, billion years.
Nuawahn liked the sound of that.
”I don't want you to go away again...” said Nuawahn, sniffling – but smiling – as he stroked Ogbonna's face. This was right – here, on Ogbonna's lap. Never mind the headache, of course. But looking at Ogbonna, being protected by Ogbonna, this was what Nuawahn wanted. He didn't want it to stop. ”You're so big and strong, Oggie...” he murmured, feeling himself drift away. He was warm and he was safe.
Never ever. Never in a million, billion years.
Nuawahn gave Ogbonnas' wrist an awkward fluttery kiss and laughed weakly. ”Thank you...”

Nuawahn giggled weakly at the kiss on his nose. He was about to sleep, but... seeing as Oggie was so close... Nuawahn made one last effort, bringing his lips to Oggies and kissing him softly before finally letting himself slip, more confidently, to sleep. ”I love you too, Oggie.” he said, snuggling his bandaged head into his lap, his breathing growing slower, more even, ”I love you . Lots...” he said, and then he was asleep. Healing. Resting. In the most comfortable place he had ever been in.
