"Butterflies can hurt just as much as humans can, sweetheart. Anything can hurt another being." The scientest was very sure of that statement.. it showed through his tone. Everything was dangerous - everything could be used against another person.
Her reaction made Patrick grin proudly, giving his son a soft squish against his chest. "Inaris messanger! The science geek in me went absolutely bonkers when I found out it. I've kept this little journal...note thing. He seems to be more aware then most of the babies I've met but.." He laughed, head shaking as the dark man stroked through the silver locks of his sons hair.
"It's not a problem, hun... You should get a changing table. Some clothings - lots of clothes." He laughed softly, tickling Yashima so he smiled shyly. "What did you say your poddling was? A drow? They don't have tails or anything, right? They make special stuff for brats with tails."

"We're usually the ones that get our wings torn off." She reminded him, tapping her chin thoughtfully. Well, she was a humanoid, so technically yeah, she could hurt someone. She just really, really doubted it.
Waah, he kept a notebook! She bit the inside of her cheek, forbidding her inner folklorist from getting out and demanding to read it once Yashima was older. "A journal, eh? I have to keep one for the Spiderling too...I've already got that one, though...Like I said, I came out for Parenting guides." Neveah giggled, still forcibly keeping her inner folklorist in check. "Geez, instead of lending the books to you, I might as well photocopy the entire thing for you." Naturally she was teasing...but she may end up doing just that.
"Crib, Diapers, Changing table, and a lot of clothes..." As the woman repeated what she'd been told, she counted the items on her slender fingers. Perking a bit when he asked her about the soul again, she gave a slightly hesitant reply. "Yeah, a Drow. And no, they have no tails. They're usually obsidian-skinned, white haired elves...and they also happen to be very high, if not tied for first place on the 'Most dangerous race' list. They're a nasty bunch...I can count the encounters where the victim survived on one hand, and even that is giving too much leniency" She informed him, looking and sounding very much defeated. Oh, her wings were as good as gone once the infant stage kicked in. "So I hope the clothes are as durable as the toys?" The butterfly was laughing nervously now, twisting her hands together.
"By the way, what kind of toys do infants use?" Hey, it was a good question for her!

"I'm sorry." Patricks voice was soft, and honest, "But when I was younger, I collected butterflies. I didn't torture them, though... Any kid I saw hurting something got a beat down by the flaming gay six year old." He smiled briefly, glancing at her at the comment about his notebook.
"I keep a notebook about all of my kids. I'm a scientest.. I study them, even though I adore them. I mean.. Akilah alone came from another dimension! Another world is out there. Whose to say every other world all the religions and cultures talked about aren't really there either? Who knows if the gods really don't exist in another world somewhere, like where Akilah came from?"
Then patrick realized he was blathering and shut his mouth quickly. He couldn't blush due to the pigment of his skin, but his cheeks heated up none the less. "Sorry. Sometimes I get carried away... But if they're night elf type things, maybe clothing that can withstand the suns rays? UV resistant or something. Covering?"
He shrugged, grinning at her at the question about the toys. "Anything they can't choke on. Nothing with small pieces. Rounded and soft is usually a good idea. They're really soft and not very smart."

Neveah smiled gently, her antennae twitching a bit at the mention of collecting butterflies. She did too, in a way...well, the butterflies found her, and usually stayed there. It was fairly chilly out at the moment, so naturally they were nowhere to be found but...soon enough, they'd come back. "Haha...I guess I should consider you a hero on behalf of my close relatives, eh?" She giggled, then turned and gave a small bow. "Its nice to hear that though, thank you!" Politely, she listened to everything he had to say. Ah, so there were people like her out there!
"Well...this is the first kid that I've ever had, so.." Naturally, he knew what that meant. Patrick sounded very much like kin to her right now...the whole studying the children, the wonderings about other worlds...it was refreshing, for sure! "Oh, no! I don't mind...really! I actually agree with you." Smiling, she folded her arms behind her head, the wand still in her grasp. "I hate to admit it, because it sounds so cruel...but my boss, the only way he'll let me keep the wand is if I study it as it grows. Its become my job, not only my responsibility..." Sighing, she moved one hand from behind her head just long enough to brush her hair from her face. "But at least this way, I don't have to always travel. I imagine constantly moving would be hard for any infant." Well, at least she was looking on the bright side, right?
"Hn...that sounds about right. Or anything with long sleeves, I'd wager." Isn't that what the weatherman suggested for those blazingly sunny days? Ah well. Naturally, the woman stored what information she could get. "So...stuffed animals and blankets?" Neveah questioned, stopping infront of an aisle that had various baby blankets and bibs. "Like these?"

"I don't like things being hurt, is all. Half the reason I have so many sprogglets." He smiled briefly, thin shoulders rising into a shrug with a soft chuckle.
"Actually... my job is one of my children. She's a genetically altered parrot child...girlthing and well... A company is paying me to raise her and take notes like a crazyman. Don't feel bad about it - it's survival. If you and the baby are the better for it, take notes. Learn all you can about him. I know studying Lahela has let me know more about myself." He grinned, glancing back at her with a faint smile. "I have to imagine so. Traveling with a dirty diaper? Ugh."
His head shook, smiling and tugging at a blanket gently. It had little apples all over it. ... Kay would appreciate that. "Yeah. Like these things. Soft things that can't be choked on work wonders on brats, right, yashi?"
Yashi had fallen asleep on his chest. Ah well.

"Me neither, actually." Neveah replied softly, a thin smile on her lips. Usually she danced to distract the aggressor just long enough to let the victim get away...it was a hobby. And hey, a dancing butterfly is something nearly everyone gets entranced by!
The woman listened quietly about how he too had to study one of his children. "I'm fairly sure mine'll get published once he has his hands on more than three month's worth of reports..." Her eyes rolled, and a small, almost nervous laugh left her lips. "I don't know, I still don't feel right about it...I mean...I wouldn't want to be studied. I can only imagine how they'd feel about it, if they ever knew..." She had no doubt the drow knew by now, or at least had some inkling to it. The wand had been present the day Neveah went to talk to her boss, not to mention it was still in her grasp right now. At the mention of the dirty diaper, Neveah's nose wrinkled in disgust. "Eww, that would be disgusting...!"
Looking around the stack of soft blankets, Neveah began to giggle. "Guess I shouldn't look for Spider-decorated baby blankets, eh?" Which was true, considering all the blankets she could see were cute, cuddly, and scary-creature free. Chuckling, her gaze then caught sight of the sleeping Yashima. "Aww...he really is cute. You must be so proud..."

He grinned at her agreement, giving the other a soft wink before stroking the fox-kits head. Really, it was for his own emotional comfort then it was for Yashima - the little fox didn't care one way or another, despite absolutely loving each bit of attention he could scrounge up.
"Why not just tell him when he's old enough to understand?" His shoulders rose and fell, grin twisting his full lips with a soft laugh. "My daughter loves it when I take notes - she likes the attention. He might be the same... You never know."
"Spider decorated baby blankets? It might scare him..." The dark man tapered off, laughing again, "Thank you. I AM proud of my little booger-butt. He's quiet and obediant and a saviour to my sanity."

Neveah giggled softly yet nervously after a moment's consideration to what was suggested. Tell the Spiderling once it was old enough to understand? "I'd most likely fear for my safety before thinking of telling the little one...but I guess it would depend on the gender of this one." She spoke what she was thinking outloud. The butterfly didn't think a Drow would be too pleased about being studied. Then again, she didn't know how close to the personalities of their races the souls were, really.
"Actually, the Drow love spiders! Their ruling Deity is a nasty old Spider Queen." Hence why she wanted Spider things for the Drow, to make it feel more at home, even if it was doomed to be on the surface. "With a child like your little meerkat, I can imagine why someone like Yashima would be a saviour!" The butterfly grinned happily, her antennae twitching. This was fun!
Shifting her gaze around the isle, her eyes then spotted something shining black, and very out of place. "Eh...? Oh my...! A Spider-decorated thing!" She gasped out happily once she wandered over to the item and picked it up. It made a morroco-like noise when she picked it up, but other than that, she didn't know what it was. "Oh, I'm SO buying this!" Giggling gleefully, she slipped the item into a little basket she'd picked up when they entered. "Its so RARE to find anything spider-ly now a days, I find..."

"So a spider-worshipper is living with a butterfly?" He found immense amusement inthat statement, fingers moving to braid slowly through the growing hair of his little fox baby. "Akilah EATS spiders.. Might want to keep them seperate. He and Yashima might get along though... Yashima likes almost everyone."
The scientest paused when she clutched at the rattle, laughing softly and eyeing the rattle. "It's not too noisy either! It won't drive you completely insane." He hesitated, head tilted to the side. "Do you know how to sew or anything? If spider things are so hard to find, you might have better luck sewing a blanket or something."

Neveah seemed to get the same reaction when she reminded herself of that very thing. A Spider-worshipper living with a Butterfly...unheard of! Hilarious nonetheless, however. "Uh huh...My life may just be a living hell from here on in...but luckily, there haven't been any signs of spiders in my house yet..." She sighed in relief...because she had butterflies that lived in her house as well. Spiders and Butterflies don't mix, as a rule. "I'm thinking he eats bugs in general..." Wrinkling up her nose, she giggled softly. "I'll keep that in mind, though...wouldn't want the Spiderling to start freaking out if it ever sees Akilah eating a spider..." She nodded in response to Yashima liking everyone...well, at least everyone that wasn't female. If the Drow was a male like Patick had predicted, Neveah had the feeling they'd get along just fine.
"Oh good! The one thing I wanna keep is my sanity..." Laughing again, she looked up and down the isle, then began to wander around again, looking for something, anything, on parenting books. "Well, I know how to sew a little bit...I might do just that though, thank you! Besides, it'll be amazing practice for me to make the Spiderling's clothes!" The idea stayed near the front of her mind, musing on many things; from where she put her sewing machine to how expensive fabric would be now-a-days. "Oh, by the way! Did you come here to look for anything?" Naturally, she asked seconds before finding the book section...which prompted her eager steps forward to nose around the shelves for a suitable parenting book.

"Well, if it's a boy Drow..and you said the females dominate? Maybe he'll just not eat you or anything." He laughed softly, shoulders rising in a casual shrug. "Akilah isa meerkat - he loves beetles and bugs. My other son eats crickets...Heused to be a woodpecker."
Dark eyes rolled, castinga glance over to the butterfly, still all smiley smiley. he was in a good moodtoday! "Practice makes perfect, y'know. I've learned to make patches and s**t for jeans.."
That many-pierced face shook lightly, pausing and blinking up. "Oh! For me? Well... I was looking for some durable toys for Akilah. He's learning to walk and...he likes PLAYING ball.. I was figuring soccer."

"Exactly...now you see why I really, really hope you're right in saying the soul is a boy." Less pain on her part...especially if the female decided to fight for dominance over the 'house'. "Oh geez, you must have an interesting house! I've never heard of a child coming from a bird before, though..." Then again, she never heard of a baby coming from a wand either.
"And thats true too...so I'll definately have to try my hand at it again! Its been a long time." Nodding, she then tapped her fingertips against her lips, then giggled as she pulled a book from the shelf, one that was conviently titled 'Parenting for Dummies'. "Haha..this is perfect!" She then slid that book into her little basket as well.
"Soccer sounds like something he'd be good at...or maybe some form of dodgeball, since he can move pretty fast from what I've seen." She suggested with a smile, looking around for anything else that might be of use to her.

Patrick just laughed, head shaking and pausing once he heard shuffle behind him. The meerkat was waking up, kicking lightly at his binds and whining deep in his throat. His father winced, glancing back over his shoulder at him.
"Damnit. Neveah, it was awesome meeting you but he's gettin' cranky." Another wince, Patrick bouncing gently up and down once more. "********... I have to run and keep him calm before he start SHRIEKING again, I'm really sorry."

Neveah blinked her aqua eyes, slightly leaning to the side as if trying to see around Patrick once the meerkat started to fret. With a thin chuckle and an almost worried expression, she waved her hand dismissively.
"Oh thats alright...I understand! It was nice meeting you, I hope we can meet again! Thank you for showing me this store." With that, she gave the man a small bow, then let him go off and do whatever it was he had to do to keep the meerkat from shrieking their ears off.
