Adoration

OCTOPU55Y was still the size of a porcelain doll when she walked up to the macaroons, seeing 12 extremely large, extremely tasty macaroons in a row. Mouth watering, OCTO decided... well. No one would see her if she went to the one in the back. And just. Like. Pigged out on it.

So she did. Food was her second love. MMmm, food. If she could marry it, she would. OCTO pulled a small piece of the macaroon off, sliding it into her mouth before closing her eyes and sighing happily to herself. Seaweed. The macaroon tasted like sweet, juicy oranges, reminding her so much of her younger sister-- she would always wear seaweed braided into her hair, giving her pink curls the most adorable curl. To her knowledge, she didn't know how old she was now. OCTO sighed softly, licking her lips. She was tempted to go for more, but stopped-- what would happen to her if she did? She didn't need to... OCTO pursed her lips, feeling stronger as she finished the quest, grabbing the cards with a smile.

The macarons all looked very pretty, very appealing--aside from all of the little bites taken out of them--and very much like traps. Well, Rainmaker had just survived an encounter with the Jabberwock (somehow, barely), so eating tasty pastry would be nothing. She glanced at them all before choosing one that was a soft, pastel blue. She inspected it thoroughly, looking for a side that looked relatively unblemished, before taking a bite.

Soft did not begin to describe the way it felt in her mouth. It was light and airy, like biting into a cloud, with just enough sweetness to be present, but not overwhelming. It was the kind of confection that didn't demand anything in its flavoring--simple instead of complex for complexity's sake--and allowed her to just stand there and enjoy it.

Rainmaker closed her eyes, the better to enjoy it, and let the memory be evoked: it had been a tough week, that first one at Amityville, full of schedules to learn and people to meet and assignments to catch up on, and she had already worked herself into a state of stress. Finally, it was the shriekend, and she could just relax--as much as she ever did. It would be a great opportunity for her to catch up on the reading she had missed by coming in mid-semester.

At least, that's what she had intended to do. She had diligently read for a few hours, perched on her bed, but found herself growing increasingly distracted by the view outside of her windows. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was there and she was not. She could be, though, in the blink of an eye, soaring just as carelessly as the wisps of clouds. It was an urge that whispered to her in the back of her mind, able to be ignored until it turned into a shout that demanded action.

With a sigh, she finally put her books aside. She opened a window, then thought better of it and unlatched the device that would let her slide them all open at once. She pulled off her pin and the transformation started before it hit the ground, her body growing and distorting, her wingspan multiplying exponentially, until a giant bird stood where a small, frail student once had. She moved to the edge of the room, where it now met the open air, and launched herself into it. It didn't take long for her to ascend, and soon she was drifting with the clouds. All of her worries and perceived problems seemed so small and insignificant up there.

Rainmaker opened her eyes and smiled as she swallowed the bite. She put the macaron back on the plate, towards the top, where it might catch someone else's eye and they, too, could share in her serenity.

Macarons. The nectar of cute, frilly girls everywhere.
Kousagi stared at the pile of pastries for a good long while, her eyes wide and sparkly as she looked the confections over. They were far larger than normal macarons, but it didn't matter. They were there and colorful and precious and she wanted one. She wanted one really badly.
A delighted squeak left her as she rushed forward, snatching first at a beautiful royal blue macaron. A crack sounded loudly as she snapped off the first piece, grinning as she took a big bite.
Surprised to find it tasted like chicken nuggets, the girl blinked and took another bite. Chocolate milk. One more bite. Water.

You saw... Shadows?
The small girl nodded quickly, her hands clutched together in her lap. They had been in her room, right at dusk and they were really tall and skinny and had knocked one of her stuffed animals onto the floor.
The woman who sat on the opposite side of the desk was pretty and sharp and wore a royal blue blazer with her dark hair pulled back tight enough that she look perpetually pained. Abbi was seven, small in the seat that made her fidget something awful. After lunch was the time that the teachers had decided would be the small girl's time with the counselor, it was vitally important she had a chance to discuss recent events with an impartial, but caring, adult.
S-she'd... She'd seen a ghost.
The counselor blinked twice and shook her head.
Impossible. Simple as that.
Abbi shook her head. No! It was true! She didn't want to talk about it but... But Daddy knew something was wrong and said she should at least talk to the counselor! That's what counselors were for, they were always open and nice!

The woman crinkled her eyes at the girl and sighed. It wouldn't be good to go making up stories like this, you know. It could get you into trouble for lying.
But it wasn't a lie! It was true! Abbi huffed and waved her hands through the air. She'd told the counselor everything else, why didn't she believe her about the shadows in her room?
Because there are no such thing as ghosts and shadows that move on their own.
But... But there were... Abbi had seen them! She had... She trusted the woman.
The woman smiled and sighed and clicked a pen so she could write a note.
I'm afraid I'll have to call your father, let him know about your stories.
Abbi cried because she didn't want to talk to her dad about it, she hadn't wanted to talk at all but she did because she knew the counselor would make it right.
Only she hadn't.

Why was everything about eating in this game? He wasn't hungry, but everywhere he went the key was eating. Eat this, eat that, eat all the things.

He decided to just give in, to eat the damn thing and be done with it. What was the worst that could happen. He would shrink again? He just went over, tore off a chunk, and took a bite. To taste...air. Specifically it tasted like the light aroma of the incense that Astridr had once used.

For a moment the game seemed to melt away. He was on the isle again, triumphantly returning home after a huge reaping. It was his first reaping after he and Astridr had truly come together, truly knew each other. And there she was, waiting for him. And yet as proud as he was of what his party had done, what he had done, the thought of doing it for her, that his actions reflected on his priestess. What he did he did for her, and she knew it. She could hold her head high among her fellow priestesses.

As the memory faded away the slight sense of pride remained, and the lingering taste. BigMac gasped, bracing himself against the macaroon, and then staggered away.

Ra.One had finally pieced together that dream and game eating meant no calories. So why not go for all the food? She leaned forward and took a bite out of the macaroon, surprised when warm spices filled her mouth, most noticeably curry.

Suddenly she was home, a child again. Standing next to her mother and watching her prepare dinner, delighting in the moments when her mother let her pour something in or stir. Her father walked by, patting her on the head before going over to pay his respects to the gods. She couldn't fully make out the words but her mother spoke, her voice a soothing balm until she opened her eyes and moved away from the treat. Pale tracks marked her face until she wiped them away.

She was still pink, but certainly not adverse to more dessert sampling.

She picked a pretty macaron. It was a nice light pink, not nearly as bright as her current outfit, softer and something nice. A pretty pale pink.

The macraon itself, or at least the piece she pulled off, was nice and fluffy, with a delightful little crunch on the outer shell. Perfect macarons, that’s what these were. And the taste! The moment that little bit of awesome was in her mouth she tasted a hint of mint, fresh and clean. The whole thing was pleasant and light in her mouth. “Hrm,” she hummed. It was minty, with a hint of something she couldn’t quite place.

She was suddenly reminded of Jake. The end of a day, the sky dark outside, Jake asleep next to her. It had been a very emotional day for both of them. Anger and fear, suspicion and confusion. But that was all gone. They’d weathered that, and he’d fallen asleep. She curled up next to him, her hand tracing lightly up and down his back. Everything was so calm, so peaceful. She smiled. If only things could stay like this forever.

With a gasp and a blink she came back to the present. She was not falling asleep curled up on a bed next to her boyfriend. She was sleeping, so she’d been told, but she was here, and he was very far away.

Very slowly, the uneaten piece of macaron she’d grabbed was placed on the plate. Then she turned to walk away. The feeling of pure peace had been wonderful, and she missed it. She missed him.

She pulled out her handy dandy pocket computer thing and summoned Sevs. No reason for her to be so alone right now.

[ 7: Rage ]

Twelve massive macaroons all mussed by someone(s) not him. Twelve nondescript confectioneries, waiting for him to make his mark, mouth-wise. RavenousDelirium didn't bother glancing around to make sure no one saw him - he was invisible! - but he did peruse the whole of the tray before deciding on the one he would maul with his mouth.

Against his tongue, red and hot. Not the heat of certain spices but the heat of burning emotion. It was sharp on his tongue too...sharp and hot and as he managed to swallow the macaroon bite, it seemed to drop into his gut with the weight of the sun; warm but uncomfortably so and it made him feel vaguely unwell.

Nothing at all like he was expecting!

The after-taste was more of the same, as though he just couldn't get past it, past the rage that it brought to mouth, to mind. RavenousDelirium staggered to his knees, not caring what he looked like because none could see him. He put his hands to his face and then closed his eyes, letting the taste and feeling and memory take over.

Sweet and spiced, hot and harsh; mouth to mouth, front to front. Bruising and violent, claws raked furrows and a snarl was sucked from one to the other; everything shared, amplified and experienced twice. Touches that burned with heat and hatred and more.

When the taste finally left his tongue he realized there was another flavor, ,a new one: blood. He'd bitten his lip. Hard.

Jack damn it.

"Wow ... those are some really big, cookie things." Everyone else seemed to be snagging bites off the cookies, macaroons (god how fancy), so why not. Other than possibly the germs but this was just a dream right? You couldn’t catch cooties in the real world from dreams. Walking over he snagged a piece of a pink one as it passed and popped it in his mouth.

He got about two seconds into it before he wanted to spit the stupid thing back out but he managed to swallow it. The cookie, or something in the cookie, felt like a rock in his stomach. Like something that would never really go away. He could still feel it on his tongue too and the more he thought about it the worst the taste got.

For a moment it tasted hot, almost like those evil cinnamon candies, but the heat started to melt into a disgusting bitter taste that he couldn’t get off his tongue. He remembered the taste and it was one he had been trying to get out of his mouth for years. It was what happened to everything you ate when you were so angry that you couldn’t think straight anymore.

Everything you ate, everything you said, turned to ashes in the fire of it. Everything sat in your stomach like a boulder, a weight you had to carry around inside you that no one else could see. At least not until it exploded out of you when you didn’t want it to.

Shuddering he tried to rub the taste off his tongue. “Okay, there’s got to be tea around here right? This has got to go.”

He was uncertain as to whether or not he had ever seen a baked good of that size before. Or, rather, that many baked goods of that size all in one place. He marveled at it for an undetermined amount of time before stepping forward to close in on one that seemed a little bit more tempting than the others. It was a warm golden color and it seemed to have been cooked to perfection.

He reached out, hesitantly at first, before giving in to the temptation, breaking off a piece of the macaroon to stuff into his mouth. He chewed on it as he tried to figure out why the taste was so familiar; why it seemed to mean so much to him.

"Alright, Land, I think we've done it."

He was fixated on the sound of the voice that seemed to accompany the memory brought on by the taste of the sweetest cake he'd ever tried... The batter, the icing, everything made from scratch and, to top it all off, they'd made it together.

"I dunno about this, Harleigh.I've never made a cake before... Are you sure that's what it's supposed to look like?"

He had been so nervous but she had seemed so certain that they were on the right track; that everything would be perfect. Hell, she'd even let him pick out the color for the icing.

It was two layers by the time they had finished; two layers and more than a little bit lopsided, but it was theirs. Half of it was his and he had never been more proud of something that had come out of a kitchen that he'd had anything to do with before.

It was the best cake he had ever tasted before and he was going to enjoy it to the very last bite...

As he stepped away from the mound of macaroons he dropped what was left of the piece he'd pulled to the ground, an almost profound sense of loss replacing the pride that had caused his chest to swell. How long had it been since he'd seen Harleigh? Would he ever be able to make a cake like that again? A kitchen, an apartment, a normal life... He'd given that all up.

"Welcome to Wonderland..." He murmured softly, collecting his 'prize' from the loot chest before walking away.

CorvidaeCat strode right up past HotTea42 as he backed away, having little if any patience for someone who wasn't just going to snatch what he wanted and be satisfied that he'd done so. Whatever had happened to him had seemed positive enough at first that she'd snatched a piece of the macaroon that he had, glancing back over her shoulder to eye him (making sure that he hadn't died or something) before taking a bite herself.

Unlike him, she had not heard voices. Instead, upon closing her eyes, she was flooded with familiarity. She could hear a fire crackling along with the occasional pop from the wood. She could smell something absolutely delicious, far better than a macaroon, cooking... Most likely roasting on a spit, actually.

When she opened her eyes she was there and it was all she could do to keep herself from reaching out to turn the spit, as she had done then. She remembered this as clearly as if it had been yesterday. The hare on the spit had been the results of a successful hunting trip. It had been her successful hunting trip on an outing with her rookery mates. The rest of them had come up short but she had managed to find enough to feed them all for the night and, for once, she was so proud.

Laughter and light conversation soon filtered back into the memory and right before she could make out the words it was gone, leaving the lingering taste of crisp skin and tender meat in her mouth.

So much for sweets...

The pile of macaroons that lay before her caused a bit of trepidation for Wykid. Trepidation because those cupcakes she ate previously had turned her pink. And she was still....pink.

What would these one's do? Give her polka dots? Stripes? Would she turn into one of those pocket watches with legs? She sure as hell hoped not.

Her lips pulled into a tight line as she broke off a teenie tiny piece. Just a bite. What could it hurt?

Holding her breath she ate the piece. It was ok at first, but as she continued to chew the flavor was all wrong. What one would expect to be sweet was sour and rotten. Dry and putrid. She doubled over and heaved, falling to her knees. Disgusting.

It was in that moment that a brief flash of memory came to her. There was an old Famine woman, blind and frail. For some reason she hated kids. Anytime she could sneak up on you she'd pinch your skin. Or if you came around her tent she would throw rotten food at you.

Wykid could never understand why this old woman hated children so much. It seemed to her that they had never done anything to this old lady and all the negativity came from her.

When she had asked her mother why the old lady was that way she explained that a long time ago the old woman's young son, her only son, was killed on accident while playing with the other children on the island. Ever since his death she had harbored a deep seeded hatred and disgust for the children of the island. She blamed all of them, even those not born at the time for what happened. For taking her only child away from her.

The next day, Wykid had gotten up the nerve to go up to the front of the old woman's tent and there she left a note tied to a small budding flower plant in a decorative plot. The note was an apology for what had happened to her son. For some reason she just felt like no body had apologized and wanted to do it herself. She never knew if the note actually got to the old woman, rumors had it she passed away not long after she had left the note.

She eyed the macaroons that loomed ahead of her with some trepidation.

The desserts she had eaten before had certainly given her some... trouble. It had been difficult to resist screaming bloody murder when she found that the after effects of ingesting one had turned her outfit to neon pink.

But the truth was, she had had a long day battling off sentient baked goods and Sealed was getting hungry. And she had to eat even though this was all a dream, right?

With a sigh, she found herself leaning over to nibble at a lavender colored macaroon. It was crunchy and was light and sweet, and she was pleased to note that her clothes were certainly not changing color. Nor was she shape-shifting into anything in particul--

She was tiny.

Little grey flippers moved in the water, creating little waves that splashed at another baby seal, and she found herself giggling as the both of them embarked on a splash war. Blue eyes shone in delight as she used her tail to cause another wave of seawater to splash right into her brother's face.

"That's quite enough." A voice interrupted, and they looked up to see a blond man with light blond stubble wading into the water towards them.

She looked towards her brother, and he winked.

Two heads gave each other a firm nod in unison as they charged towards their father, flapping their flippers and tails at him. Laughter filled the air as they were soon scooped up, each under an arm. "That's enough, you two. It's time for bed."

And when he tucked them both in, she looked up and smiled, and they both leaned forward to kiss him on his cheek at the same time...

Sealed found herself gasping, reeling from the impact of the flashback that had just hit her. It might have been of what people would describe as a positive emotion, but to her? It was just a reminder of the days she once had as a child, and how much she had adored her father back in the day.

But not anymore.

[RAGE]

fouof wasn't a fan of sweets and desserts and this whole place was built from them. But it was inevitable that she'd come to this place if only for the chance to increase her level. She'd seen what an upgraded Mad Hatter looked like and, well, she wanted it. Swallowing her dislike of sweets, along with a bite of the first maracon she broke a piece off of, the blonde settled on getting this over with.

And fast.

Because it was strange, so strange that she couldn't taste anything. There was something in her mouth and she was chewing on it but it felt like ice and tasted of nothing. No, not nothing exactly. It tasted familiar.

And she did not like it.

She could feel herself grow hard and grow cold. Her jaw clenched as a chill roiled inside her limbs. Her hands clenched into tight fists as she felt herself imploding. She remembered feeling this angry before, back home, back with her fellow agents. Shadowed faces and mocking laughter and any attempt at retaliation was met with worse treatment.

So she had to swallow it all, had to learn to take it all and wait for the right moment to burst. Was this the right time? It felt like the right time.

The lump of gnashed macaron was finally swallowed and settled heavily in the pit of her stomach. No, no it wasn't the right time. She pulled her hat off her head, dug into its recesses, and pulled out a time-bomb. She hid it amongst the stacks and walked away, awaiting for the eventual, but undetermined explosion.

[ Intimacy ]

He blinked at the small mountain of nibbled-on macarons, lip curling at the sight. It looked, quite frankly, rather...distasteful. Like a bunch of mice had come and decide to nibble and n** at only select portions of each macaron, leaving the rest to whoever was so "fortunate" to pass through and get hungry enough to try.

Truth be told, he wasn't planning on going and having a bite. Eating desserts in this game world seemed more a hazard than anything else, whether or not there was a prize to beheld in the end or not. The mad hatter sighed and readied himself to move, until he watched someone take a nibble a few feet away from him.

He blinked.

And watched, curiously, for their reaction. Nothing...major; not really. So he quirked a brow and stepped toward it, most every other fiber of his being trying (and failing) to get him to stop, turn tail and run like all jack to somewhere else. Anywhere else. Kiin poked at one pinkish macaron, then made a curious face and moved on to another color, one that hadn't been picked on as much as a few of the others.

So he nicked a piece off and popped it rather idly into his mouth, hoping he wouldn't suffer any effects that the macaron's red-orange color had anything to do with.

Surprisingly, he suffered no serious effects. The macaron itself, though, was rather unpleasant. Grainy, and somewhat bitter with vague feelings of...was that caring? Gentleness? ...love? Kiin chewed, and the more he did the more intense the feeling grew. The more bitter the flavor. The grainier the texture. The drier his mouth became.

Until at last he swallowed, throat parched and mouth full of what felt like grains of sand that had been mixed into a dish of something maddeningly bitter. It traveled down, down, down into his stomach where it settled rather unpleasantly in his stomach as he suppressed a shudder.

"Jack, never again, I swear!" he said almost in a yell before he closed his mouth, clenched his jaw and popped off the map and made way for the tavern. He needed a drink, and fast.

[ BETRAYAL ]

Finding the table of macarons, SANDSHARK grimaced at the fact that he'd be dealing with even more sweets. Sugar was so unnecessary, but oh so abundant. It masked every other flavor too, and his palette was far too simple to taste complexities. Give him charred meat and cactus juice any day.

He tried to find a part of the macaron not nibbled on by a past player, and eventually found a bit of filling tinted a non-informing and dull tan. Resigning to the necessity of what he was about to do, he slurped it down with a grimace. It tasted like crowberries macerated in a pound of sugar for hours on end. He gagged, nearly vomitting this time.

He was reminded in that moment of when he'd first come back from the Human World, being told he'd have to relocate to Halloween because of what the Hunters had done. And to put the figurative crowberry on the sundae, he found out the clans had merged. Rather than keeping their pride intact, they decided to mingle with the scum of the other clans. How could they?

Scratching at his tongue, SANDSHARK left the scene incredibly quickly, still glowering at the memories. The loot didn't help much.

FlukeFiend was once again wandering, stumbling upon a set of macaroons. For a moment they looked out of place but then he remembered where he was on a snort. None to fondly he began looking them over in a circle, it was clear that someone had been here before him, which meant if they had just a little then he could have a bite. There was nothing to suggest a flavor however, so he was hesitant which meant it took him a moment to choose which one he wanted.

Picking up a light blue one he took a bite, the taste he instantly knew. His jaw paused in its chew, the taste was overly sweet and reminded him far to much of that. It felt eerily as slippery as well, a feel in which a solid food should not have. Within moments of the realization he was lost to a disturbing flash back one that reminded him of why he hated sweet sweets so much.

"It's so cold today such nice weather, do you want some eyescream?" A younger Spinar looked up to his mother and shrugged simply. It was a nice day and the treat sounded good but his mood had been this way since the day his new cousin was introduced. His mother whom was apparently attempting to cheer him up tried a trick that his grandfather use to do, eyescream. At the time there was nothing he loved more than booberry eyescream, which was why he was following quietly in step with the woman to the parlor.

Moments into their eyescream 'date' Spinar felt more comfortable more relaxed and closer to his mother than he had in awhile. Close enough to reveal why he was so upset and rebellious lately. "I...have strange..feelings for him...mother." It was like chewing a mouthful of razors to admit it, but the look of disgust on his mothers face was worse. Strangely enough he was embraced and kissed on the head. "All will be solved with time, but you realize it's simply not an option snowflower?" Spinar nodded into his mothers chest.

He knew.

But he didn't expect, that is what happened only the morning after. Father busted into his room, angry. So angry. Yelling about mixing, being filth and about ruining the blood line like his uncle. It was the first time he had ever felt truly frightened by the other demon. The first time he had ever been physically struck by him outside of spar, the first and last time he cried..and ever spoke openly to his mother. Which judging by the screams from her he heard down the hall, she hadn't expected his father to react so badly, but she had still..betrayed him.

All berry eyescream tasted sugary sweet since then. Like the lie it had been that day.

On a shaky breath he stumbled back from the plate of food, slowly his eyes registering the sights around him. His body however still tense, still ready to face that fight. It was likely visible to those around that he was gone for the first few seconds as he came back. Stepping yet another step back he trips and falls, the startle causing a curse to come up before he notices the chest at his feet. Taking a deep breath to clear his mind he moves to search the chest, taking the two lvls gladly and the card before fleeing this place fastly.
